What kind of religious service is Trump attending this morning?

Just caught the opening of the service.
The prayer kept repeating something Inshalalalal :shr:
After that a whole bunch of religious people paraded in.
A bunch were obviously Christian, but also saw an Imam and a Sikh (looked like)
and some other ambiguously dressed ones.
Service is just starting on Fox.
Please don't tell me we are going to have one of those combined every faith including moslem religious services :shk:

All in all, a good service. I was surprised that it wasn't taken over by social justice warrior lecturing.
A good solid service. :)

Cut him some slack. He's trying to build community. On Monday, it'll be back to business.

A little bit of Soul Gospel singing now. Sounds good!
Black woman and afterwards a black man got up and offered short prayers.
Someone who could have been Buddhist or Hindu said prayer in another language, No translation offered.
Conventional minister offered regular prayer.
Now a nice rendition of How Great Thou Are. Melania wiping back a tear and now being the first to stand and applaud! Others followed.

Crap, now comes the moslem Imam with arabic prayer and reading from Quran. :shk: With english translations in between arabic verses.

Military choir now singing.

ecumenical ceremony. I think every president does this ceremony. don't worry there will be a humanist in the bunch as well as all of the other religions that are represented.

Now there is this Swahili (?) guy talking about the "Tribes of the Earth".

This service is like a race/contest to see how much diversity they can trot out in one sitting.

Whatever . . . .

I hope we'll find out what that never-ending chant at the beginning was. It went on so long I had to mute it.

Why would I care about a humanist?
I was just commenting about the different types of faiths.
Lighten up.

Latin now.
Cool. I used to speak Latin after 4 years of it in Catholic high school.

Some more conventional scripture reading.

Psalm 23 reading

Reading from Matthew 5:3 Blessed are....

Nice choir rendition now.

So far I was most impressed when I saw how Melania seemed to be really touched by "How Great Thou Are" and had to wipe a tear from her eye and stood up and clapped at the end. After a few seconds others followed.

I think it's a Sikh. He is offering a fairly conventional prayer in English.

3 or 4 fairly conventional prayers.
The Lord's Prayer

So far, a pretty good service. Only one untranslated prayer. I was impressed that the moslem guy gave an English translation after each Quran verse.
NO social justice warrior speeches or any untranslated Moslem prayers.
Still don't know what the singing at the beginning was.
Beautiful rendition of "America" by Navy singer.

An Ecumenical Service means that it includes pretty much everybody trying hard not to step on each-other's toes. Maybe an Atheist doesn't worry about such things, or hasn't learned in-depth but most religions really have more in common than they have differences. It's that last 5% or so that causes all the bloodshed. ;)

Stop the atheist crap. And I know what ecumenical means. I have studied and probably attended more religions and religious services than you likely have.
I merely started a thread to make others aware of the service and possibly watch it since it is being broadcast in it's entirety on Fox.
So far its a pretty good service and Melania's response the the "How Great Thou Are" hymn was touching.

Service is ending now.
All in all a pretty good service.
Loved the Gospel Soul singing and all the other singing.

Fox now back on talking about how Nancy Pelosi is pissed about some of the EOs Trump signed and what he said yesterday. How quick reality comes back.

Fox is covering the service where all are being respectful. I tuned into MSNBC for a moment and heard Ashley Judd say that Trump was turning 'rainbows into suicide notes'...Whiskey Tango Foxtrot?? And then I jaunted over to CNN and Pocahontas was talking about how they basically were not going to allow Trump to return us to the dark ages. Big woman's march of some sort today. The melting of the snowflakes are turning into a spring flood.

CNN is all about the protests.

Last night during the balls, I noticed MSNBC only aired Maddow - no coverage of the celebrations.

After the balls CNN held a panel of screaming, whining snowflakes.

You can certainly tell what stations NOT to tune into.

personally I'd like to know the source of their fake news that they would even believe this crap in the first place. Is this all because Trump stated he likes to grab them by the pussy? If so then maybe the top female rock singers out there should quit singing songs demanding that they be grabbed by the pussy.

Sounded more like a 'social justice' ceremony to me.

At first I thought the same and that it was going to turn out to be a lecture to The Donald, but it didn't.
They all prayed for guidance, and God's help in the tasks ahead.
The had some beautiful singing. See what I said about Melania standing and applauding, above.
All in all, pretty short, yet good.

Just found out one of those offering prayers was Alveda King. She was at the pulpit for only a short time and I didn't recognize her.

TRUMP HIMSELF IS PRESPERTARION I THINK.

Phonetical spelling but it makes the point that phonics still works .

Yes Trump is Presbyterian
Melania is Roman Catholic and they were married Episcopalian
His 2 sons and Ivanka daughter married Jews and
Marla Maples mother of Tiffany is/was a Kabbalist

Trump’s parents, Fred and Mary Trump, formally joined Norman Vincent Peale’s Marble Collegiate Church in Manhattan — a venerable affiliate of the Dutch Reformed Church in America

Peale was a guest at Melania wedding, officiated at Trump sister wedding and parents funeral
Peale - a very influential Minister is Best known for his authoring the book The Power of Positive Thinking

I had the best time watching Trump during the whole ceremony. It was obvious he was out of his element. Several times Pence leaned over to show him what to do or say.

Because he didn't "know the ropes," he was fist bumping the participants as they came in and went out; when his hand was over his heart during a song, he was thumping out the rhythm; when the service was over, instead of solemnly filing out of the church like other presidents have done, he went over to all the participants, shaking hands and greeting each.

I loved it. I loved to see him act and react just like we would in these circumstances. He was just being himself and (maybe) not aware of or hung up on protocol. How refreshing.

Well then, dang, you should have recognized most of it. I don't understand the derisive tone you displayed in the OP.

Why were they doing a service on Saturday, is it something for the Inaug?

I've got some friends who are Atheist and they attend church more than I do-they simply like the companionship and the services. Need to separate the Atheist from the Evangelical Atheist. The EA's are the ones going around preaching their Atheism and trying to force it on everyone else.

Why do you care? You're an atheist.
That would be like me telling you "you're a Hindu, why would you care?"
Read my comments before you start with your damn hate.
Good thing the service wasn't filled with narrow minded people like yourself. :shk:

Jeesh, try to start a thread to draw people's attention to a church service the new President is attending.
Recommending others watch and telling them where to watch it at.
Worried that it might turn into a social justice lecture to the president.
Making nothing but good comments on the whole thing, and the first lady's reaction to one of the hymns, and out comes the Hindu bigotry.
Lighten up BeWell.

I did recognize most of it. I have attended Jewish, Catholic, Protestant, even Buddhist, Hindu and Moslem services.
I didn't recognize the opening chant. It could have been Buddhist but I didn't recognize it from the Buddhist service I once attended.
I was expecting it to be new age social justice warrior preaching at the President, but it wasn't.
All in all it was a pretty good service.

I doubt it. Sikh's are not muslim. They are closer to Buddhist or Hindu in beliefs.
They are required by their religion to carry one. It does not have to be very big to fit the religious requirement.
Kirpan
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The kirpan (/kɪərˈpɑːn/; Punjabi: ਕਿਰਪਾਨ kirpān) is a sword or knife carried by Sikhs.[clarification needed][1] It is a religious commandment given by Guru Gobind Singh in 1699, that Sikhs must wear five articles of faith at all times, the kirpan being one of five articles.*[2][3]

Go back and listen to hitlery's talking points during her debates and rallies, its all nearly verbatim diarrhea spewed during that time, which is no doubt why she said that garbage and had no platform. Anchoring bad feelings towards Trump with key words and phrases conditioned those soft mushy little minds, logic and fact will merely bounce off that grey matter.

lol. Never seen it spelled quite like that.

This ecumenical prayer breakfast became a public telly thing back in the Carter era. I think it was some sorta group recovery after the shock of Watergate deception. Wait till the real deep foggy bottom gets drained. We will need a national revival tent.

I would assume Natl Cathedral will host a 500th anniv of Protestantism ceremony sometime this spring and hope they attend. It doesn't hurt the nation to hear a scripture or two once in awhile or see a General kneel & pray before a battle. Its all good.
