What is the first thing you think of when you look at Michelle Obama's dress?

I'm not concerned about a poor dress choice (not my personal taste for sure, maybe Halloween? More heavy makeup and a hat) I more concerned of this women and her influence in the white house personally. She appears to have an agenda none of us are clearly aware of yet and we've seen her influence on her husband, Obama. She herself worries me at this moment. That's all.

Then find a sunshine board. ???

I don't go places I don't like.

We wanna bitch.

And until January, it's still a free country.

IIRC, Aunt Esther never really liked Coke Zero's white Grandmother, and kept the kids as far from her as possible.

My gues is that she likes the colors; also they are power colors, the colors of communism and socialism that JC Refuge had indicated, and maybe she was sending a "message" to people in the know.

Yes, they are power colors, I'm well aware of the meaning of the colors used. Appearances and perceptions are important.

Black is acceptable in a time of mourning ( whether the emotion, being tried to convey, is real or fabricated)

Red lends to the celebration of the win. It was my impression a balance was being tried to be struck. Less than tasteful, in my opinion. But that's just me.

All appearances send messages, real or imagined.

Perceptions can and will be interesting, always.

And- for the record- Michelle Obama is certainly the best looking First Lady in MY lifetime.

I'll bet you got the hots for Zera from Planet of the Apes too. Zera and Michbitchele could be identical twins.
You spend a lot of time at the zoo too I'll bet.

I'd agree with the trashy part, or to put it Ebonically for those participants in Grant Park (don't say that I'm not a proponent of "diversity"): U cain take da'biotch outta da'hood, but u'all cain't take da'hood outta dat biotch. Dats whut I bee talkin' bout'.

I figure she'll add green for the inauguration, the colors typically used by black African nationalists here. But it was a little premature at this point.

This is the second post in a week by individuals surprised that a board borne from concern about the total collapse of civilization from Y2K is not devoted to praising Sunnybrook Farm. Go elsewhere, ye of non-doomer persuasion

Is this the most talked-about acceptance speech dress of all time?

She certainly did get attention with it, and that may have been the point :)

It was a Halloween color-coordinated family. They have kids the age where Halloween is a really big fun deal.

Ya, ya betcha!

Well put. . . . at least there's something to laugh about on this thread. :lkick:

Maybe I'm just flabbergasted that her dress should be an issue?

That everyone is so small that all they can do is gossip about how she dresses herself and her children?

That you want to attach some kind of evil message to her choice of dress?

That you want her to look like Jackie in the 21st century?

With all the issues at hand, this kind of gossip is inane.

And I can state my POV, if I like- I still have that right.

Right?

She looks like the affirmative-action-cu$hy-university-jobholder-that-doesn't-do-squat that she is. Physically, I think she looks nice and could have worn something much more flattering and dignified.

The dress has black side and front panels to give an illusion of slimness. Pretty ugly dress, but has the "anti" look she would be going for. Same with the girls' dresses. They are making a statement. She would have looked much better in some sort of suit, and the girls would have looked much nicer in pastel or just bright colors.

The black widow thing is striking, I have to say.

It's occasionally fun to trifle over these silly things because everything else is so dire and terrible lately.

Here's an article that explains a little about her dress!! Got if from:
http://www.whatdoesitmean.com/index1162.htm

scroll down about half the page - just thought it very interesting!! It says....

"And to this historic moment in time, the new American President’s wife, Michelle, presented herself to the World at the side of her husband as both the United States new First Lady and a ‘visual warning’ to her, and her husbands, enemies that she would not become the ‘black widow’ they fully expect her to be. Though virtually unnoticed by the American people, and totally ignored by their propaganda media, Michelle Obama stood confidentially beside her husband on this historic night garbed in the ancient African Bantu ceremonial ‘Royal Robe’ meant to signify that that which they most feared would not hold power over them, and which in this case was her dress of black doused with the reverse triangles of red upon her breast and abdomen like the ‘black widow’ spider she has called to have power over."

EXCUUUUSE ME, D_el,

But my remarks were NOT off topic.

And if you really want to know what I thought when I saw her:

"Wow, that's the best looking First Lady we've had in a century."

What freaks me out is how Ender doesn't even SEE how racist that statement is.

Because he means it a certain way... and thinks we're too dumb to get it, so he glosses it over, even in his own mind.

But we get it.

That's exactly my point. You are very pointedly and repeatedly saying she is the "best-looking first lady ever" because she's black.

You know it, and I know it.

But I'm supposed to be too "dumb" to get it.

And, now that I've called you on it, you call racism.

New day, new pieces, old game.

How can you possible make that presumption. Have you seen the First ladies?

Hillary Clinton, Barbara Bush, Nancy Reagan etc.?

Angelina Jolie they are not.

Heck, they're not even Barbra Streisand.

And, now that I've called you on it, you call racism.

And what does THAT mean?

Get a grip.

OK, lol -- on second thought, you are right. :)

Ender, no offence but have you had your eyes checked lately? Best looking first lady in a century!!

Well, they say beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Frankly, beauty is over rated if you ask me.

I think some people have way too much time on their hands.

God forbid Michelle should be spotted carrying a purple purse, like Tinky Winky.

Loon,

Agreed. Beauty doesn't say a word about character- look at Eleanor Roosevelt.

newsgirl- High-five!

I have no doubt they will do a makeover on her. Does anyone remember how homely Hillary looked in the beginning? OMG, they really fixed her up and made her look good. It's amazing what a new hairdo, makeup and nice clothes can do for somone.

Far as just looks she looks great, with the exception of that ugly dress. I wil not remark on her inner beauty for the fact she keeps that buried well and I have yet to see it hehe. But that dress is any indication then Lord have mercy. Since her and Barack have prolly already made love the that means that she won't eat him. Though we can wish. lol
