VIDEO What Dollar General Doesn’t Want You To Know

I rarely step foot in our DG any more and it's been like that for years. Ours is always understaffed and the people that are working rarely have time to help with anything. One time they ran out of merchandise bags and it lasted for a good while.

As a result of the checkers being overworked, they are often short with the customers and I'm sure they don't make much more than minimum wage. The people that do work there are treated poorly by their superiors. I go in there now as a last resort.

The one in the neighboring town seems to do a little better with employees and customers but they are still shiny and new.

When going to California last year, I noticed a store in almost every community I passed through. That was Idaho, Washington, Oregon and California.

So she's mad that she's paying a 20% premium on some items at a convenience store?
That's the way it's always been.

DG is the only store in my town. Prices on some items are the same as the grocery store, while other items are a bit higher.
If I just need a loaf of bread and gallon of milk, it makes much more sense for me to grab it at the DG than drive all the way to a grocery store. Especially when the milk & bread prices are the same.

Around here, we have a new store called popshelf. Nice store. Owned by DG. Major upgrade From a DG store less than a half mile away. Well-staffed and clean. Same brands as DG. See what this brings.

Go on Tuesday mornings and find lots of items for one penny. Staff is supposed to remove certain stock on Monday night but they don't. Those items ring up for .01 Tuesday morning.

Their excuse for prices will not work in West Virginia as they have to sell it to you whatever the price is on the shelf and not what's in the computer system. West Virginia caught on to that game years ago and they passed a law they have to sell the item at the on shelf price.
Think that’s common. “Price guarantee”
Take a picture of shelf and watch the register.

Nope that is not her complaint. She's not complaining about their prices...her complaint is that the shelf has one price and the register has a two dollar higher price than the one on the shelf...bait and switch. You have to watch the video.

Not one near me in CA. There used to be one kinda close in Hemet (aka Hemeth) but it closed. Either thieves or too close to Winco Grocery. Could be both, it was Hemet after all…

There is only one thing we get at Dollar General...the only other place that carries it is over 20 miles away....so 40 miles round trip...
We get a few things at that store....but get only go there....maybe 3 times a year
We are planning our trips even more carefully now that gasoline prices are going up so much again....have a feeling it will go a lot higher.

Michigan as well. There used to be a law that the Customer would get the difference plus 10 times the difference up to $5.00.

We were poor. I definitely used that to make money off the stores. Meijer was the one I went to most and they messed up all the time.

Some years back, they did away with the pricing "fine" and that stinks. I know mistakes can happen, but I do believe they took it seriously when they had to divvy bucks from their profits.

When we moved, I got DH a new coffee pot. It was half price at VG's. Rang up regular price. Took it back and they fixed the issue, but it would have been sweeter to have that bonus or fine or whatever they called it, to help cover the cost of me having to pay for my gasoline to go to back to them for the correction.

I very seldom shop at DG although it's the only store in town for general merchandise. We do have an over-priced grocery store and hardware store where I prefer to shop when I have to shop locally. I'm an organized person and keep running lists of what I need and stock up when I drive the 25 miles to shop. I also am very careful about staying stocked-up so seldom run out of anything that requires a quick trip to DG which is just as well because they generally do not have it anyway or if they do I can never find it.

I don't have a DG very close, but I do like the store . . . on Saturdays when they have a coupon for $5.00 off of $25 purchase. I usually come right out and ask for the coupon and they almost always give me one.

Some great prep items can be had for that extra 20% off. I only purchase the bare minimum of $25 to get the best discount. You can also use manufacture's coupons after the $5.00 off coupon.

I do call them out on incorrect pricing and they usually fix it right then.

I remember back in the 1970s Sears got caught doing what the state (NY) called bait and switch and they send out flyers with items on sale and you seen something you wanted or needed so trip to town and find out it's not in stock and the sales people working the floor were instructed to show a similar item that did the same thing but had a better profit margin or sales markup. What New York State did with getting after Sears was some benefit to the consumers, but it was the state that collected the fines and where it went no one knows.

I believe last 2 years wally world had the same problem. Consistently not charging the same price that was on the shelf. I use DG but watch every item being rung. I stop the cashier if it's wrong. Then she deletes the item and we continue on. Easier than arguing with wally world's queen of power cashier watcher. And 2 hours less drive time.

No, that's not what she's mad about. She's mad about the pricing at the checkout not matching the prices on the shelves. I watch the ring-up prices like a hawk wherever I'm shopping and don't have that problem.

Part of it might be due to lazy-good for nuthin' employees who don't change the prices on the shelves when they're supposed to.

Could count on one hand the times I've set foot in one of those stores (I don't think we have Dollar General here). Has been to pick up cheap, throw away paper goods, trays, etc. for a party/gathering, or for cheap gift bags at Christmas. Their wares are mostly cheap, generic, small packages, and not worth the price they ask.

Not a fan of DG in general, but we are a small community and I know many of the employee's.
They are short staffed and almost never get enough hours to put new stock away..They are always covered in boxes.
If this is by corporate design then somebody should fall in a wood chipper..

I couldn't even listen to the whole video. Boo Hoo, I have to check my prices and that's an inconvience to me. Its not just there its everywhere. And yes, they do not have enough employees, welcome to the the real world, most places don't. People don't want to work

I've even gotten expired food other places. They either don't have enough employees or some of the ones they do have don't give a crap. Its the new world we live in. People have to take responsibility for themselves and do what is necessary to keep from getting ripped off.

We got a DG in our local community a year or so ago, and people love it. The nearest walmart is 30 miles in three directions from me. I adjusted when I moved here.

I can't tolerate that store. Just something that sits wrong.
I have noted that DG store also has items of lower QUANTITY that other stores...making the items there more expensive than say a Meijer or Kroger(hard to beat Kroger for most expensive but DG sometimes does on the size of their products).

Saved, to glorify God.
TIP: Get a "china marker ", grease pencil, or
and WRITE the shelf price on the item before you get to the register! It makes it so much faster to assure you are getting the right price!

You can direct the cashier to notify you if the price
rung up does not agree with the shelf price written
on the item.
