PREP What did you prep for the nor'easter?

We are getting wind, wind, wind with more wind and a smidgen of snow. My emergency preparations amounted to putting a bucket of water in the tub to flush the toilet if the power goes out. That will hold us until we can get the generator set up. Hope it works. It's been years since we used it last. Engines and motors can get touchy if let sit to long. DH picked up a few 5 gallon carboy, just in case.

If the power goes out we're good.

Woke up to about 4 to 6 inches, high winds. The forecast said 1-3inches of snow.
For around here, snow and ice storms are the norm. Most folks up here have a week to two stocked pantry.
Got white gas for the camp stoves.
The second wood shed is still full.
Got 4 eggs yesterday from the girls.
The wife did pick up milk on her way home from work.
If the power goes out, I have a number of books to read.

We grocery shop for a week or two at a time and cook most meals at home. The stove is an old gas one so it will work fine without power. So as far as food and cooking we are good to go. It will be a pain if we have to drag out the generator to save the freezer. In a long term power outage that is a nice problem to have. I don't look at it as prepping any more. We have a life style that smooths out a lot of the mundane bumps along the road of life.

In this weather we could probably put the stuff from the freezer in a coolers on the back pouch. For the time being it's cold enough to hold the food here. As long as a racoon, bear or other varmint doesn't get into it I think that would work.

We're running on generator power right now... power went out briefly around midnight, came back on after 20 minutes or so, but went back out at 3 am and has been out since.

All we did to "prep" was to make sure the big tractor was full of fuel (because it sucks cranking the fuel pump at o'dark thirty in a blizzard) and check to see the path to the generator was clear.

We shop about every 6 months, and have oil lamps, etc set up permanently for brief outages. Flashlights on the nightstands, etc...

Biggest pain is that Dixie, our English Shepherd is in the middle of a false pregnancy, and *every* little unusual thing drives her nuts. So, we had 65# of whining, panting dog jump on the bed at 3 am when the UPS went off in the office, and she's still agitated- probably due to the generator noise. Gonna be darned glad when this passes!

Yup...that's how I look at it. Around here, at least 6 months of the year, the whole world is my freezer. ;)

Funny - my dogs freak when the UPS clicks on, too.

I moved a couple vehicles - one into the barn, the other up close to the house, to protect it from flying branches. Covered some porch furniture, wood. Tied all that down. Should've done that on the studio deck... so I was chasing chair covers, cushions and the furniture itself around the deck.

Wind woke me at 2 am; making strange noises and just being "wind". But I went right back to sleep. It's still blowing pretty good out there, but not like last night. Glad I had about 8 trees taken down around the house last spring.

Put the cover back on the grill. We are far enough away from the coast that we don’t have flooding concerns. I also don’t expect a long disruption even if we do lose power. The generator is always ready to be wheeled out for duty. It takes a week or so without power to break our stride.

That all said, I’m down with a nasty stomach bug so I’ll be pretty bummed if I can’t keep having DH feed himself and the kids via takeout. I still need to throw out all the food I made when I thought this was just an IBS flare and not something communicable. That makes the refrigerator a dicey place right now for anyone but me. He cooks very well, it’s just the issue of all of the cleanup when I’m down with Norovirus and I require constant cleanup as I contaminate areas in the house. When you have the energy of a gnat, it is just easier to outsource things like cooking than stack that with a hard workday for the hubs.

Sort for the lack of clear writing, but this is the best I’ve been in days!

Hope you are feeling better soon. Sucks to be sick and have to deal with an emergency situation. Ironic, I've tried to train the offspring to be our back up. Until they have to deal with life on their own I don't think they will "get it'. Sigh. Gotta love 'em.

Set a couple of (empty) gas cans in the truck in case I need to make a gas run. My VA check came in today, so I just might fill them up anyway.
All of the emergency heating and lighting is always readily accessible, top shelf in front, ready to grab and go.
We jut got restocked on TP and comfort food (house full of females), so now worries there. :)

So far, we lost 3 of our 6'x8' fence panels and who knows how many roof shingles - they are scattered all over our yard.
It - the wind - sounds like a jet engine howling out there.
Good times..... :gaah:
