CORP/BIZ “Wendy’s” to use “surge pricing” on their daily menu to increase profits

They want to make up their short fall??? Put the grilled chicken and salads back on the damn menu!!!

It really is that simple! I’m a grilled chicken sammie eater, and when I’m traveling I just want a salad with some grilled chicken!!!

Even sams club was smart enough to bring back their Cobb salad!

I’ve noticed Airbnb does this as well. I’ve been searching places to stay, forward it to wife or other family and after several other people look at it in a short amount of time, like magic the price jumps up. Sometimes significantly.
I guess I didn't complain when they gave me time-dependant pricing on my drinks at happy hour, so :: shrug ::
Maybe it'll clear out a few of those long lines, I get an hour for lunch and it still never seems enough when we go out

I hear ya! I've been worse than a toddler lately, eating only what I want, and all I want is some darn grilled chicken on a bed o' spring lettuce. :: growls softly ::

Their Frosty "key chain" went up to $3.00 this year. The free Frosty with purchase is still a good deal and monies go to Dave's adoption charity. Strawberry Frostys rock. If I'm eating fast food they are my first choice.

On The Level
Fast food is a no win situation. For starters, the help, it's not very good, and it's almost dangerous given the various attitudes, and low end of the hiring pool. The restaurants are making the product smaller and cheaper, quality suffered. Now the price is nowhere near the bargain it once was. Much as I'd like a Big Mac or burger and fries, it's easy to avoid now because I know I'll be disappointed and ripped off.

I was super excited for the strawberry frosty. But when I had the chance to try it, all I tasted was fake, chemical shitstorm trying to be fruity.

Am glad the original (and best!) chocolate is still on offer.

I hear you, as do millions of Americans who just want a freaking salad with some grilled chicken on it, I mean it’s not like I’m asking for olives! Cheese??? Oh yeah now you’re talking my love language!

Wendy's totally lost my business when they discontinued baked potatoes. I don't know if that was temporary or what, but that was the only thing I bought there during the last ten years or so.

It's Lent, so I get fish sandwiches at Culver's some Fridays, just the sandwich. They are excellent right now. I alternate that with going to one of the area church's fish dinners (part of my goal to support local organizations).

That's pretty much it for fast food for me right now, and eating out in general. I'm saving for various items, so I make most of my meals, snacks, and coffee/tea at home. That's fine. My homemade snacks are better than anything I can buy locally, except for the cranberry-orange muffins at the local cafe (seasonal item). Those are wonderful!

Wendy’s has also discontinued their chili hot sauce in the black packets. I won’t buy another chili from them because of it. They replaced it with “cholulu” (sp?) and that stuff is just nasty.

Effectively they weren't going to raise prices during "surges", but maybe offer discounts during off hours. Same difference, kind of.

I first saw this mentioned on Reddit's WallStreetBets subforum Tuesday. The comments there were hilarious. If the other social media had anything like what I was reading, no wonder Wendy's backpedaled, and fast.

Gotta wonder if the CEO is long for his job after that.

Which means people who are shaving pennies can go to the early bird special. Lots of people really need that. Now, if you're near broke and eating at a fast food joint I'm not real impressed with your budgeting skills.

Understand that completely, that's for sure.

And have to say times today or not like times in yesteryear.

Yesteryear worked 7 am to 3 pm had plenty of time to cook, work in the garden, odd jobs around the house mow the yard etc. Now lot's of folks work 8-5, don't get home till 6, an hour cooking, half an hour eating and another near hour cleaning up and it's 8 o'clock, and no time for anything except a shower and go to bed.

My meaning is there is a lot to consider eating at home vs eating out, even burgers.

And the budget skills might include: time, water and soap for clean up. That's why when it is my turn to cook, I give SB her choice of pizza, hamburgers, taco's and chicken. No clean up. LOL

Which I would compare the same budgeting skills to growing a garden picking it, cleaning it canning it, and buying jars and canners, water, electricity, and time to going to Walmart and buying a can of beans for a dollar and done.

"course the same thing can be said for hunting, fishing, and using wood for heat.

so the bottom line comes down to, not budgeting but rather what one would prefer to do.

"course if one is really into budgeting, there is always......Vi-anna's. LOL Low cost meal and no clean up. win-win.

People still eat at Wendy's???

Yeah. They’ll go eat at Wendy’s with their squashed flat burgers, limp fries, etc. but then make all sorts of noise if you eat at McD’s, BK, Culver’s, etc. I can’t eat that stuff any longer, none of it because of the fat content and because I am on a low fiber, soft diet, but I don’t complain because other people do. But gotta admit some of the Wendy’s aficionados are some of the worst fast food snobs out there. ROFL! It must be the Frosty’s that does it. Brain freeze syndrome is realz.

"Surge Pricing" is what we all used to call Bait and Switch.

I could see some legal issues trying to implement that.

Especially if there is a public uproar, the politicos will spring into action banning "Surge Pricing".

Not the case here. McD's are the big aficionados around here. Wendy's is across the street from McD's, and while you can't pull into McD's at lunch time, Wendy's lot is empty. I don't know how they stay in business.

And at breakfast if you want to know how to fix the planet, it's Hardee's. Those old folks take up 2 parking lots. Hardee's the street, and the TSC parking lot. TSC doesn't open till 8.

Understand about the eating situation. Been thinking about opening a burger place that offers bacon wrapped asparagus spears on a lettuce leaf, for my DIL. Bless her pea picking little heart.

You got me curious on that one.

Piri-piri looks pretty good.

Understanding that anything they fast-foodalize suffers greatly.

Worth a thread, unto itself.

Sonic has been doing this for years with their drinks. Only it's in reverse. 3.69 for a route 44 regular price. But between 2:00pm and 4:00 pm they are half price. All drinks and slushes are half price during the time, IIRC.

Because EVERYBODY wants to go eat at a place where you never know what the price is in advance.

I prefer Wendy’s burger over a Big Mac. But Mc Donald’s regular hamburger & fries over Wendy’s burger and fries. Like Wendy’s chili.

It’s been since 2021 when we paid $15 for two regular Wendy’s burger, fry, and small pop.

Don’t do fast food anymore if other options. Don’t eat out much anymore either. Mom & pop restaurants are now $30 plus for dinner.

BUTTTTTT this is not what they said originally on Tuesday! And I have plenty of friends who were watching the news and reading twatter to verify this one. They SAID that they were going to raise prices during peak hours, aka lunch and dinner time, and at most locations.

Yes they back peddled and hard on this one...

Arby's has an excellent fish sandwich this time of year! It's actually 2 meals for me.

Not a bad price too.
