SB, are you sure you didn't receive part of someone else's order? Is there a packing note that says anything? Hard to believe WM would give away so much free stuff, but who knows anymore!

No. Instead of having the regular packing material, they had these rolled up shopping bags with the items in them being used as packing material. I would have thought I received someone else's order if part of my order wasn't included. These free items were sample sizes, except for the headlamp and hand sanitizer. I looked for a note, but there wasn't one. I did have a card inside the package. It thanked us for shopping with Sam's, and on the card, it said to expect something special. I guess the free stuff was the something "special".

I forgot to mention that at the market where we buy our groceries, they gave us free t-shirts for being regular customers, yesterday!

SB- A few months back we got a box of instant flavored oatmeal packs in with a Sam’s order. I had ordered some old fashioned oats and thought at first they sent the wrong item but the old fashioned oats were there. I think in my case it was an accident, I let them know and asked how they wanted it handled but I never heard a word. I sent it home with my daughter for the grandkids. I’ve heard of Walmart doing that with pick up orders but not shipped orders. Enjoy!

Summer, do you make your own cayenne tincture? Do you mind sharing where you source this? TIA

I guess getting "freebies" isn't that uncommon. I've just never had it happen to me before. I like it! Thank you all for your input!

Making vegetable beef soup today, hoping it will help both of us. I'm using Lakeside canned Beef with juices and it has some fat in it that I'm also using. DH said not to make a lot, which is my tendancy. I added dehydrated onions, a can each of corn, green beans, mixed vegetables, diced potatoes and a can of beef broth. I tried to taste it but nearly burned my mouth. I added worchestershire sauce, salt and white pepper. Can't really use other seasonings because DH won't eat anything spicy. I added no water because all of the cans of vegetables had plenty of liquid in them.

I hope he eats some of it, but that's not a given. However, I like my own cooking so I will eat plenty. Maybe I'll make some corn bread to go with it. He'll like that.

I want to replace the foods I used in the soup, so now I actually have a list for grocery shopping.

It just now popped into the low 80s. It's been a cool, dry morning! So thankful. I've got most of the summer blankets washed and hanging outside on the lines. I also opened most of the windows (they have screens) and aired out the house. My cat had fun jumping into the different open windows and chirping at the birds.

We have about 1-2 more days of 90s (maybe) and then it should settle down into fall weather. Maybe it's a Covid thing, but I have zero tolerance for heat and humidity. Once it's 85 or higher, I can't do much.

We went to the High School football game last night because they introduced the JFL kids at half time; it was such a good game that I stayed to watch the whole thing, so didn't get home and in bed until late. Daughter called at 0730 needing me to come watch the boys so she could run to a bigger town to pick up some stuff she needed to close her pool for the season. It got a little chaotic after I got there 'cause of course some slept late and needed fed, one boy had a friend staying over who had to go home at a certain time and the other one had a friend who needed picked up - add in an early light lunch at 11:45 - an hour before a soccer game - for one boy who had to be there at 12:45, and the other boy needing dropped off across town at 1pm for pre-game football practice, back to watch the soccer game, then a run back across town to the football game starting at 2pm. Did I mention it was 90 degrees and sunny? No shade at the soccer field, but we did get to the football game early enough to score seats under the press box, so it blocked most of the sun. I did get a giant pretzel with nacho cheese sauce and a Gatorade out of the deal; and snagged 3 pulled pork sandwiches from the concession stand to take home with me when our JFL game was done. Now I'm home and ready to chill out reading what y'all have done :)

Tomorrow, I'm going to finish canning ham and bean soup and pork and beans with Hubby's help - power was out yesterday for several hours after a combine hit some power lines and took out a pole while I was off to the Farmer's Market and Amish store with a friend (no injuries - except to the pole) . My stove is propane so I could have gone ahead and canned by lighting the burners with a match, but it was pretty hot with no a/c.... Nah. I'd gotten a text that the power was out, so I'd picked up several bags of ice and swiped some of daughter's empty coolers on my way home from town, so everything was kept nice and cool until the power came back on. I also want to say that it was a good trial run for my solar chargers - I used a couple of them and kept my phone and tablet topped up until the power came back on - and still had 77% on one and 80% on the other one, after being used for about 5 hours each.

My vacation ends tomorrow evening when I go back in to work. I'm really not looking forward to going back, but will stick it out - at least for now...

Take care all; hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

Been working like mad with everyone getting son's place fixed up. We have our last hike with our group tomorrow.
Friend gave him a large lazy boy recliner. He can sleep in it till he gets a bed if needed. It's beautiful ❤️
So the guys went and got it. It's in truck. We will use his truck tomorrow and he our Jeep for work so we can take chair over. SIL is home so after hike we will all go do that.
Monday morning son and I are going shopping and then he will drop me off at his place and go get a nap before work.
I'll be painting all day. The patching is done. Small few repairs still but almost done.
It will be very nice. He is very grateful, paying for everything and looking forward to his quiet little place out in the woods.
Next week is piano, then Awana then food pantry and fair set up Saturday. I think I have everyone to do all that mostly so I'll be working on son's place and he will help when off work.
Trying to get this done so he can move in this next weekend.
Whew

Son just called me. He's out backpacking in the woods and got lost.
So he made a camp and set up his gear and has food and water. Tent and sleep bag.
He was exhausted and disoriented.
So we had a good talk and he calmed down. Went over all the survivalist knowledge and what to do.
He isn't far from civilization and he's on a lake so told him get some sleep and flag someone down who's out fishing in the morning.
I always tell my kids that if this happens they need to stop and drop.
Make their camp. Get some food and water. Get some rest and see what things look like in the morning.
He has battery packs and maps. I think he just got exhausted hiking thru new area that was very dense.
Next YouTube video he posts should be a doozy!

Thank you so much Summerthyme I actually took all the kids hiking backpacking when they were very small. I didn't know anything but I learned along with them. I'm just saying a little prayer to give him a good night's sleep I told him things will look better in the daylight.
His wife was calling him too so she will help calm him down she's very calm natured thank goodness

Harvested some hibiscus and beets today, defrosted the big freezer (I don't think the other needs it), made a batch of pickled beets, started a tincture for a client and did some laundry. I need to do so much more. I did get some plastic crates we store squash in cleaned, so I have a place to put things I pull. I have 3 more I need to clean in the next few days.

DH hit an auction and was able to get 3 picnic tables for $50 each. They will be great for our camping spots.
