Good Morning, All! How are things going on the prep front?

It's been a busy weekend with the grandkids - I picked them up after school on Friday; then Saturday we had a soccer game at noon, followed by a football game at 4pm, so I've not gotten a darn thing done

I guess I did work on their closet here on Friday before I picked them up - they just keep growing, and it was time to switch seasons in the closets anyway. Now, if I could just get up the gumption to work on my closet...

It's supposed to get up in to the 90's again today, so maybe that will encourage me to do some inside work. They've taken most of the rain out of the forecast, and it's supposed to cool off during the nights, but the days are likely to be miserably hot 'n humid. Oh well, I have plenty of inside work... Pantries need straightened up, my car needs cleaned out, I need to write a note reminding me to call work tomorrow since I can't get in to my email, and to put a reminder on my phone that I want to go to the library Thursday morning as that is when the Social Security lady is there to answer questions. I'm also hoping to get back to the pool this week; and will probably make a run up to the Amish grocery some time this week as well to pick up some bulk items.

Daughter seems to be highly stressed right now - I know she's worrying about her business getting shut down again, schools shutting down, etc... I feel like I'm walking on eggshells around her though, and that gets tiresome after a time. I love having my boys around, and try to give her down time but I do need a little down time myself. And some sleep...

Well, I'd better get this posted and get started on the outside work before it gets too hot to work outside. You folks take care; stay safe out there!

Has any one used boxed.com? I've been looking at their site and for bulk buys and no membership they are reasonable on a lot things.
I'm putting together a Walmart order this time for hba and assorted other items.
My sister and I have decided to work on a new skill every week. This week it is corn and flour tortillas. I've done flour but not corn. Next week maybe some type of wildcrafting.

4H meet this afternoon. Making sandwiches to take. Chores done.
Watching son's new video. He is trying to make it out to our last group hike, and film some video as well as teach the kids something.
Weather warmer but a lot of wind. Working on cabin this week and putting the yard to bed for the winter.
SIL and son doing good on the iver I gave them. And a few suppliments. Also some nettle tea.
Daughter canned chicken and froze peaches.
Taught boys some fire safety and so on.
Got to get off my keister and finish stuff.
Have a good day yall

I'm not even thinking about all the things I need to do. My right hand is swollen from my fall yesterday which makes it difficult to do things. Its better but still hurts like heck. I'm not dizzy anymore when I lay down on the bed, that's a relief. I have a couple of lumps on my head that are less tender today than yesterday. I've had to educate myself on how to do bathroom things with me left hand.

I did place an order for charge cords for my phone, which is kinda holding it s own, thank goodness. I'm using it as little as possible. My cousin called yesterday and said he would take a look at changing the battery for me, but it was after I fell and simply could not go over to his house. So i had to take a rain check.

I placed a small order to walmart.com for some of the Goya seasonings that Doc1 recommended. and also
Ashwagandha Root which I've seen a lot of recommendations for. And an order for some of my daily supplements that I take from vitacost.

Don't need or want anything from the grocery store. Just out of courisoty I looked at the list of my items on walmart.com and they are out of stock on several things. Haven't seen DAK ham in a long time.

This is my week to go grocery shopping, and I'll be making out all of my online orders for another 2 weeks. Will probably do all of that, Wednesday, since it's payday. I'll try to stay within my budget this time. It's getting harder and harder to do, though. When you only shop every two weeks, one really notices the price increase on everything.

Tuesday, Cary has a doctor's appt. Afterwards, we'll go to LOWE"s for some materials Cary needs for a project on our house.

I'm going to have to make at trip to Walmart one day. I need a new coffee maker and some other items that I can't get anywhere else, without paying double for them. I would order online to get the stuff, but I don't trust the coffee maker not to be broken when it arrives.

That's about it for our upcoming week.

My prep for this week is going on vacation. Covid has cancelled so many of our plans over the last 18 months and some other things have cancelled others, and I am just over it. So I am just getting away. Five days with no phone, no internet connection, just some peace and alone time. Wondering what Biden will say when he gives an update later this week and how long it might be until my next vacation.

Did stop by Walmart this afternoon and picked up a few things, including two new pair of jeans. The house is full of food and there is no place left to stash any, so I only got a few cans. Got some shampoo, hair gel and some headache meds, along with some butane and some lantern wicks.

Ya'll hold down the fort while I am gone!

I'm happy for you, Prudentwatcher! Enjoy your time away!

It's finally back into the mid-70s in Central Iowa. I got the guys to help me get mulch to all of the raised beds and raked in. I still have herbs and cherry tomatoes to harvest, but those are in containers. I've got the fall salad garden planted, also in containers.

Got the laundry finished and a meatloaf prepared for sandwiches this week. I'm still working on the back closet, but I ran out of energy and took a nap. That's fine. I probably over-did it with the mulch today, but I'm really happy that project is finished.

I have some worries about what the Biden Administration circus might bring on this week, but I'm going to restrain myself from going to the store. I'll take an extra lap around the lake trail, instead. (However, if there is a massive event . . .)

I hear ya, Meemur. I'm just doing my regular bi-monthly grocery shopping this week, without going overboard on stocking. A few cans here, and a few cans there. No biggies. I'll do my regular orders from Sam's, Chewy, and Keystone that I only do twice a month, too. BUT, if Biden announces that we're going to be locked in, or locked out, because of being unvaxxed, or a major event happens, in my mind, that will be an emergency. Emergency funds will be used to make a major push for more storage food and items. Unless that happens, it will just be "steady as she goes".

I tried to do a "ship to home" WM order, but every time I tried to check out, it would revert to a "pick up" order. I didn't want to go to the store because I have to drag the poor puppy with me. I finally gave up and did the pick up order. The four items that they didn't have, automatically became my "ship to home" order. I've never had it do that before, usually it will just tell me the items are out of stock. I managed to get home with the groceries without the puppy eating all of them. Still haven't gotten them put away, just shoved in the pantry.
As soon as we got back from the store, we had to do a fuel run, which is 20 miles in the opposite direction. I'm really tired of running around like a chicken with it's head cut off, but I feel like I have to get things done.
In addition to my normal Tues. errands, I have to take the puppy to the vet. I hope she's healthy enough to have her shots this time.

That reminds me, I need to give Cary a haircut one day this week. I get to try out his new barber's clippers for the first time! LOL. I just know he'll wind up bald when I'm done! Good thing he has lots of ball caps!

He's been outside this morning cutting up firewood for the cook stove. We have a huge wood box for all of that to go in just outside our back door. It's really handy, since the cook stove sits right inside the door.

I've had issues with walmart with pick up and getting it shipped. I kept trying to get a particular item shipped and they kept telling me to pick it up. Last time I went to wm I got the three they had in the store. I checked on line when I got home and they had my item in the deliver area. I ordered three more.

We honestly don't have much in the way of regular grocery shopping. We have our own eggs, we don't drink milk or eat cereal and we don't eat bread very often, so we don't need to get that regularly.

I'm stocked on dog food for many many months, we will need to get chicken feed and corn in the near future, DH takes care of that. He's got six wild pigs that he's feeding out.

I remembered appliance light bulbs on my last trip to wm, and i ordered a package of bulbs for ceiling fans on amazon.

My quercetin order came in, it was hard to get at a reasonable price, I got it at evitamins.com. Until I just did some research I didn't realize what a good supplement it is. And we are not taking NAC, I managed to get a years supply of it for both of us at walmart.com without breaking the bank.

We had venison ground steak, canned gravy, instant mashed potatoes and long cooked green beans for our anniversary yesterday. It took all I had in me to cook, what with my hand, but it is better each day.

Saturday my brother gave me apples from his tree. I put three bags in the freezer and made apple butter. I gave my brother 3 pints apple butter and kept 1 pint and 3 half pints for myself. Today I pressure canned Ground Beef. Three pounds 80/20 ground beef was on sale for $7.47 at Kroger. I canned sixteen pints. It seemed like it had more fat than usual.

Yow, you all are getting so much done! Sept is cray-cray here. Closing up shop on all the gardens, the flower beds and pots…watching the snow line on the mountains creep ever-closer…. preserving/canning everything possible (have got to get those last green tomatoes made into chow-chow tomorrow). Plus canning up all the meat in the freezer to make room for a possible successful moose hunt.

And next week flying down to Kodiak Island to help step mom, then bring back my dad’s pickup on the ferry. It’ll be a big help around here since the last truck gave up the ghost this past spring.

There are not enough hours in the day…..but it’s sure a lovely - though chilly and windy - September!

The past few days I've been going through my little ones clothing and footwear. I had to order a few things as they grew so much over the summer. I also got the sizes of my grandbabies, so I can pass those along this fall. I've been doing inventory and reorganizing too. I found I was low on a few items, so I got those items ordered.

I realized, yesterday, that I was low on canned diced potatoes. I added a few cans of those to my shopping list. I like using them for soups and stews. They make quick stir fried hash browns, too. According to Cary, we can never have too many potatoes in storage. He loves potatoes any way they can be fixed.

According to our weather forecast, rain coming in later today for the rest of the week. Our temps will remain mild, though. It sure feels like Fall is in the air.

We'll be leaving around lunchtime for Cary's Dr. appointment. I sure do hope it goes well. Cary is doing fine, but this unvaxxed thing has me a bit nervous.

Sunday afternoon, I mowed off all the tomato plants as all they were producing were tiny, odd shaped fruit. I left the pole beans and my beloved zinnias to go to seed; and left the sweet potatoes - which have taken over about 1/3 of the garden in any case - to continue to mature. I hope they have as much bottom growth as they do top growth :) If not, I reckon I'll be tenting them to protect them from frost, and we'll be eating a lot more sweet potato 'spinach'! Note to self - pick up another bottle of garlic infused red wine vinegar at Aldi next trip...

I also need to pick up more Great Northern and Navy beans next trip there - I pulled 20# out of the pantry this morning. I'll put the ones from the pantry to soak overnight, then can a case or so of pint jars of ham and bean soup; the rest will be quarts of pork 'n beans in a tomato sauce. I don't have a 'real' recipe for the pork 'n beans - it's basically beans 2/3 to 3/4 up the side of the jar, bean soaking water mixed with ketchup, seasoned salt, dried onions, and then a chunk of bacon poked down in the jar . I caught ketchup on sale for 69 cents/24 oz bottle several months back, and they are near their use by date so this is a good way to use it up.

Spent an hour at the pool yesterday.... then limped my way to the ibuprofen bottle this morning. I almost had to ask Hubby to get the bottle down from the cabinet. Darn backstroke, anyway... apparently I don't move my arms that way very often :loI: I shouldn't have let such a lengthy period of time go by between pool visits, but it's just been a busy summer at work - and it's about to get busier. I've only got one set of 3 inna row shifts in the two weeks that are left of this schedule when I go back in; all the rest are two in a row; but the next one that starts October 10 is gonna be a booger - an extra day each week, and one period where I work 2 - 12's, have a day off, work 3 -12's, one more day off, then work 3 more 12's. That crap is hard on an old lady

Got the official call from the Employee Heath Department at work a bit ago - weekly testing of non-Covid-vaxxed employees starts on Monday, so I'll have to do that when I get off work that morning. Sounds like I won't be lonely - they're setting an area I'm familiar with aside just for employee testing and it's a fairly large one. I think vaxxed staff is just over 50% right now. New hires are required to vax if they haven't already. Medical staff are in the high 90's for being vaxxed.

Today, I've cut most of the seed heads off the coneflowers to use to seed areas next year; left a few for the finches, and crunched and tossed a few heads into the flower beds. I've cleaned the fridge, carried out compost - adding in some shredded newspapers 'cause the pile is a bit stinky. I've been playing with the kittens when I take the compost out - they seem to think that I'm pulling weeds from the raised beds on my way back to the house for their entertainment :)
Second load of laundry is in the washer - my sheets had to go in the dryer because something (goldenrod, maybe) is throwing off pollen like crazy in the turkey patch so hanging them out was a no-go. I did get some weeding done in the raised beds, but not all; I hit a wall and will be heading for a shower to get rid of some of the pollen; followed by a Zyrtec and a nap after I finish this post.

Take care all - have a blessed week!

Grandson mixed up a cake and the oven wouldn't come on. Element burnt out. Ordered new one. Meanwhile we got the camp stove from the barn. Made a fire in the grill with wood and cooked the cake on that.
Realtor let us know property was empty and we could look. Not bad at all.
Little cleaning and some small fixes.
Son will get a great deal. He has to meet with her Thursday to sign papers but now he is getting cold feet. He does this sometimes when it's a big decision.
Thing is, he has to go in there behaving like he really wants the place and sign the papers. Otherwise she has other buyers. So we're all praying and hubs and daughter and I talked it thru with him.
Daughter and her family need that side of the house so they aren't stuck in the camper all winter.
He understands this and wants to move.. somewhere.
This is perfect property for him.

Errands and phone calls and emails texts and so on all day long. One thing after another. Plus of course animals and chores etc....
Just one of those days like you all have had.
Son worked 48 hours then right after he got home, was huge fire. 5 departments went and he didn't get home till 10 pm. So he was tired.

Lordy.
Anyway. He is at work again so I went and printed paperwork out and dropped off for him.
He has good income and a lot of savings. This is a good deal and .4 from the one station he wants to be near. He just gets nervous when it comes to money lol.

Sorry don't mean to belabor the point lol.
4H meet Sunday last. Woman gave all the kids awards and little trophies for bringing in pop can money...except my 2 grandson??
They are sweet kids. Stood there with everyone waiting with excitement.made me mad. Be looking for different group or start our own after the fair.
Hike next Sunday with hike group. Last one of the year.
Then fair stuff.
Daughter canning meats and made big pot of green beans that were yummy.

Big storm earlier and another one heading this way. Vegging out in cabin. Only so much one can do to help. Pray a lot.
Awana starts Wednesday. No one will be bored.

I didn't say anything to them, redirected to something else. But they aren't stupid. But they aren't snowflakes either. I'm looking at how to start a group of our own. Yes. I'm still mad about it.
Her reason was they didn't get a chance to go with the group to trade cans in. But they did 4 trips on their own. Everyone was sick here so thought it was best. I did explain that at the time.

We just got back from Cary's doctor appointment. He was fine just as we expected. Doctor ask Cary if he had had his C vax, and Cary told him he wasn't getting one. To his absolute surprise, he told Cary that the vax didn't work anyway, so he didn't have to get one, unless he just wanted to. He almost fainted! He told him that, in the beginning, everyone thought the vax was "Golden", but now, it just wasn't working. Too many are still getting Covid, even after taking both jabs. So, he just leaves it up to his individual patients as to whether they want one or not.

Now, for my part. While sitting in the waiting room, a woman came in to check in at the desk. I was sitting about 4 feet from this desk. I could hear every word the woman said. The woman told the receptionist that she got her second C vax last week, and the next day she became very sick. She was still very sick, so the receptionist ask her several health questions regarding Covid symptoms. The woman had every one of them, and had a fever, also. A nurse was called, and they took the woman right then out of the waiting room into an isolated room. She said that she didn't want to go to the ER, but wanted to see her regular doctor, instead. It took me a minute to realize that I had just been exposed! I just got up, and went outside while shaking my head. I could not believe this woman was so careless about exposing others. Another woman who was sitting close to her looked at me, rolled her eyes, and got up and left, too.

I'm going to keep taking my hydroxycloroquine, Zinc, Vit D, Calcium, and Tumeric/Curcumin. If I start showing symptoms, I'll start Cary on the same. After exposure, how long does it take symptoms to begin showing up?

I don't know why they call it common sense, 'cause it sure isn't common anymore... :bhd:
Meh.

Tell her to come sit next me. I want to be exposed to as many strains as possible. I want as much acquired immunity as I can get. From the symptoms I've already had it at least twice that I know of. No idea how many asymptomatic exposures/infections.

The canner is hissin' and pissin'. A little more for the pantry.
