Throwing away hard earned money...and proud of it, is my own perspective on that statement.
I personally do not have enough money to not wring maximum purchasing power out of each dollar.
Even in Walmart, why would I buy a name brand when the GV brand is the exact same product at 1/2 to 2/3 the price???
I mostly just quit being a consumer. I only buy antiques from yard sales or stores. Half my food is grown, the other is purchased in my local grocery store (Foodland). I buy steaks/ground beef there, from where I know the butcher and he purchases the meat from Texas and Kansas. I have my own home grown chickens and pork. Foodland also carries mostly local apples from Crow Mountain Orchard. Only Florida Orange Juice. That's Smart Oatmeal is from Canada $2.99. Lil Dutch Maid box crackers $1.19 and cookies $1.29 are from Texas, and I have e-mailed them thanking them for their product. I no longer trust Walmart, so don't trust their GV brand. I'll compare my local grocery costs, tastes and quality against (China to Arkansas GV) products any day.
Clothes are another story. I wear a lot of local made 1800's clothes and native wear. Socks are US made Dan Post. Fruit of the Loom is from Kentucky. I bought a life time supply at their outlet center close to where they manufacture them several years ago.
But that's just the lifestyle I'm in.
