LEESBURG, Va. (AP) — The woman who lost her job after displaying her middle finger at President Donald Trump's motorcade has won a seat on a county board of supervisors in Virginia.

With 99 percent of the vote reported by the Loudoun County Office of Elections Tuesday night, unofficial returns showed Democrat Juli Briskman ahead of Republican incumbent Suzanne Volpe with 52% of the vote.

Among her goals, Briskman said she would increase transparency in local government.

Turns out one of the winners in Virginia voting was the same woman who lost her job after she flipped off Trump's motorcade.

Obvious question - was Juli Briskman an early "plant candidate," who gained desired public recognition via her Trump motorcade incident - free pre-advertisement?

Was it her handler's intent, all along, to use that incident as a device for future electioneering purposes? She is obviously connected to the powerful NoVa Democratic machine.

Smacks of Saikat Chakrabarti handiwork/fraudulent efforts, who was AOC's handler and CoS - hmmmmmm . . .

Your'e lucky Bumpkin, you live in SE VA. We live in northern VA-specifically Fairfax county. You know, the deepest blue of the blue area of VA. I'm not entirely convinced that the voting up here was above board, frankly. And communists won in SE and SW VA-traditional republican strongholds. Voting irregularities, anyone?

I'm not just disgusted, I'm angry. We have a baby killing governor and a violent rapist as lieutenant governor. Yet these "progressives" not only voted to promote the communist/democrat manifesto, but piled on by voting to turn both the house and senate communist as well.
We're staying. Like I told a woman this morning who had to gloat about the communist victory today, "You're facilitating a rapist and a baby killing governor with your vote-think about the future you just made for your children". She didn't say much after that.

We stay and we fight. Mouth off at the ignorant communists, be ready to defend yourself. Fight these communists in any possible way. Find a business run or owned by a democrat? Out them, just like they do republicans. If someone talks about how great things will be, remind them our governor will willingly murder newborns. And the lt. gov is a low life ****** rapist.
Oh, and don't forget to congratulate any dindu who voted for the communists for staying on the plantation.

I sincerely hope the dems do something stupid, and soon. There are people just waiting to figuratively stick the knife into these dems.

Speak your mind about the results, while we still can.

I am absolutely disgusted. God help any Virginian who is interested in free speech and any 2nd Amendment supporters; this is going to be a very, very ugly future. I live in Southeast Virginia, running to another state is out of the question. Even if I had unlimited money, I would stay and fight, and I AM going to stay and fight.

The courts are not our friend, but we are not done yet. Unlike the left, we the people are trying to do everything within the letter of the law.

It is very difficult to express how ticked and disgusted I am without being exceptionally profane. I will leave that to your very fertile imaginations, and I'm sure you will be quite correct.

Please pray for our leaders and our citizenry, we need your prayers and God's guidance ***so much*** right now and on into the future.

Yep, in Loudoun county. Her district includes President Trump's golf course and housing community. She built her election on a rude finger gesture, and apparently not much else.
She won't last long. She's a former SAIC contractor and lots of those folks live in her district. In Trump's community, incidentally.
I'd expect federal funding for Loudoun co. to drop soon. With all the bond referendums they put forth yesterday (probably half a billion dollars in road/public safety and school improvements) they're gonna hurt.
Good for them.

Somali who was target of threats wins US municipal election

CORRECTS SPELLING OF LAST NAME TO KHALID INSTEAD OF KAHLID - Safiya Khalid speaks at a candidates forum at Geiger Elementary School in Lewiston, Maine. Lewiston, a city in Maine that is home to thousands of African newcomers, elected Khalid, a Somali American to its city council after she soundly defeated a fellow Democrat on Tuesday. (Andree Kehn/Sun Journal via AP)

PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — The second-largest city in Maine, home to thousands of African newcomers, has elected a Somali American to its city council.
Safiya Khalid, 23, soundly defeated a fellow Democrat on Tuesday for a seat on the Lewiston City Council in a campaign that was marred in the final days by nasty attacks and threats fueled by social media.

Shrugging off the attacks, Khalid declared that her victory is proof that “community organizers beat internet trolls.”
The attacks didn’t seem to faze voters. Khalid won with nearly 70% of the vote to make history in Maine’s second-largest city.

Lewiston voter Amber St. Onge said Mainers don’t like outsiders meddling in their affairs, so the out-of-state social media trolling could’ve backfired.
“Honestly, it’s just like a vocal minority that’s like that,” she said. “Most people are really welcoming in Lewiston.”

Maine is the nation’s whitest state, but it is home to a growing population of Africans who’ve fled their homeland.

On Election Day, first- and second-generation candidates from four African countries — Somalia, Congo, Ghana and Nigeria — won seats on city councils and school committees across the state, continuing an established trend, said Mufalo Chitam, executive director of the Maine Immigrants’ Rights Coalition.
“There’s been a push for us to have bigger representation in office in the towns. That’s where the decisions are made. If we’re not in those offices, then someone is going to make the decisions for us,” she said.

In Lewiston, the campaign turned ugly with online attacks featuring a photo of Khalid flipping off the camera when she was a high school freshman and references to her opponent being taunted during Democratic infighting.
She said she was being silly in the photo, which was taken by a friend. “I was a child,” she said. “I was 15. I didn’t know any better.”
The hateful messages that poured in from across the country attacked her religion and her skin color, driving her to tears. Someone said she should be stoned. Another person shared her home address on a Facebook group.
“My reaction was how can people be so mean and full of hate? I was left speechless. It was all about intimidation,” she said.
She deleted the Facebook app from her phone and deactivated her Twitter account. Then she focused on continuing to knock on doors in her district whenever she wasn’t at her job as a caseworker for a nonprofit agency.

Somalis began moving to Lewiston two decades ago in search of affordable housing after many settled in Portland, 36 miles (58 kilometers) away. The city of 36,000, second in population in Maine only to Portland, is now home to more than 5,000 Africans.

Khalid was born in Somalia and remembers living in a refugee camp before coming to the United States.
As a city councilor, she wants to ensure that there’s affordable housing that’s free from lead contamination, which is a problem in the city’s older housing stock. She wants to boost aging infrastructure, bring in investment, and support local businesses. She also wants to boost schools.

“When I came here, I didn’t know how to write my name or speak any word of English. I am who I am because of public education. Our children deserve the highest-quality education,” she said.
Lewiston Mayor Kristen Cloutier said she was impressed by the poise showed by the young politician to ensure people in her community are represented. Khalid will be the youngest person on the council in January.
“If those (messages) had been directed at me, I would’ve been hiding under my bed,” Cloutier said. “I don’t know that I would’ve had the courage to fight another day. That speaks to her resiliency and her dedication.”

Well, at least we got our Sheriff. Chapman won and I am so glad. Had his sign in my yard.

Still wondering if there wasn't some funny business going on with respect to the vote tampering on so many of the others.

Still wondering if there wasn't some funny business going on with respect to the vote tampering on so many of the others.

Word from an acquaintance - the ballot that he used to vote did not list all of the Republican candidates - when he questioned the poll workers, was told that it was a correct, legitimate ballot - memory being fuzzy, and needing to get back to work, he checked off the names he thought were correct. As he was exiting, he mentioned it to the GOP reps out front - their response was, "You are about the fifth person to mention this issue with the ballots - we (presumably the GOP establishment) know that this is going on, and we are working the issue."

No way to correct/rescind his vote, once the ballot is cast. Smells like the GOP MAY be in cahoots, at the upper level - this is a very conservative district, pro-Trump - this improper ballot method might be a good way to take the edge off of this conservative district's voting voice. Am thinking that the hapless poll workers were likely not clued about these fraudulent ballots, if indeed any of this is true - folks in a rush, clock is ticking, everybody distracted at some level - prime opportunity for this sort of fraud.

Acquaintance is angry. Fool me once, but not twice, next time - will go to the polls with a cheat-sheet that the he will develop from other sources before leaving the house, next time - word to the wise, particularly when voting state and local elections where there are many different candidate names that are mostly unknown to the voter - make your choices ahead of voting day, write them down on a piece of paper, put it in your wallet/shirt-pocket/purse, to reference when presented with a ballot at the voting location.

Will be chatting with folks tied to the local and state of VA GOP machine, tomorrow - will query further.

I always do this. I write down on paper who I am voting for in each category and take it with me when I go vote. Many times the local paper will also have a sample ballot printed the week before the election. You may also be able to find sample and print it out. If you take copy of the sample ballot with you, you can compare it to what they give you at the polls.

Thanks for that report goodnight.

It's pretty pathetic that the level of incompetence, ignorance, and not caring about doing a job right (before we even get to intentional cheating) is so high that the voters themselves must insure accountability even at the local level. But I guess someone has to care, call them out for irregularities, and make a big stink about it. No point in letting this slide; worst thing we could do.

In Oregon back on the age of the dinosaur, about a month before the election we’d get mailed a voters pamphlet (which detailed all the items and people on the upcoming ballot) and a sample ballot. We could mark our choices on the sample ballot and bring it in with us to vote.

there's an AGGRESSIVE form of CANCER in this country. what this thread describes is rapidly metastasizing AGGRESSIVE DISEASE.

when an individual receives that diagnosis he/she (and now we add "IT") has a decision to make. are you going to accept your fate and DIE or treat it AGGRESSIVELY?

treat it AGGRESSIVELY and you'll get sick - REALLY SICK . . . sometimes you die despite that treatment . . . but you have a better chance of living - possibly differently than before - but you're alive. left untreated you WILL DIE.

there are still people in this country - some right here on this forum -who think "IT CAN'T HAPPEN HERE".

you can dance around that all you want but the diagnosis is spot on accurate.

This is important. We all know this is / was going to happen. It is happening now. It will take a few more years for it to get to a full swing, but it is here now and happening now. It is sad and like many things will leave us thinking of the good old days, but they are gone and have been for some time. So wake up and begin to fight.

Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam says he will reintroduce gun control measures after Dems take over state gove

Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam on Wednesday said he will reintroduce gun control measures in the upcoming legislative sessions now that Democrats have taken control of the state legislature.

"Getting rid of bump stocks, high volume magazines, red flag laws. These are common-sense pieces of legislation," he told CNN's John Berman on "New Day." "I will introduce those again in January. And I'm convinced, with the majority now in the House and the Senate, they'll become law and because of that, Virginia will be safer."

Democrats took control of the Virginia House and Senate on Tuesday for the first time in more than 20 years. Northam and Democrats will now have an advantage in the assembly to pursue gun control measures that Republicans have pushed against and blocked.

Following a mass shooting at a Virginia Beach municipal building in May that left 12 people dead, Northam called a special session to debate gun control, but it was adjourned by Republicans without action. A ban on assault weapons and high-capacity magazines and reinstating Virginia's one-handgun-a-month law were among eight policy proposals Northam introduced ahead of the session.

Some of the proposals were introduced at the beginning of the current legislative session. Republicans had voted down some of the bills and effectively blocked the other measures from moving out of committees.

House of Delegates Speaker Kirk Cox, a Republican, won reelection Tuesday night. He called the special session after it adjourned an "election-year stunt."

"The speed which the governor called the session, the partisan demands for floor votes, the roadshow all demonstrate to me how the whole thing is just an election year stunt," Cox said at the time. "We all share the goal of reducing gun violence in Virginia."

Cox did not immediately respond to a message seeking comment on Northam's remarks on Wednesday.

Northam said Wednesday that Virginia residents have "had enough" of gun violence, and that sentiment was a contributing factor to the Democrats' victories.

"Last year, we lost over 1,000 lives to gun violence. And people have said enough is enough," he said. "And I've told the legislators I need people that will come to Richmond and have dialogue, they'll take votes and pass laws to make Virginia safer. People spoke yesterday."
