Saved, to glorify God.
The lowly $10 little harmonica...WHO KNEW it was even possible to do what this guy (Buddy Green)does with it? Ya gotta see this amazing and FUNNY video (AT CARNEGIE HALL!) (even if harmonicas are not your fav: http://www.wimp.com/harmonicacarnegie/

I have no idea how he got so many notes out of that little harmonica!
I think I will stick mine in my bag and try harder to make decent music with it.
HE CLOSES WITH WILLIAM TELL OVERTURE AND A STANDING OVATION AT CARNEGIE HALL!!
(edited to correct error in name of music performed)

It reminds me of the saying I have posted on my wall-
Have you done
ALL you CAN,
with what you HAVE,
where you are?
He did about all you can with that little harmonica.

One thing that always bothers me in auditory performances is the uncultured, low class people who think their clapping and hooting noise enhances the experience. In a performance of music, people need to learn to keep quiet and control themselves until it is finished.

Onetime when we moving, the mover found one of my harmonica's in the couch and asked if he could play it. He then proceeded to play some awesome blues licks on it. When he finished I looked over at my living bride and said "well, there goes that excuse".

 That was great.

I'd be stamding in a puddle of slobber after that one. I did try to learn the harmonica when I was younger but seemed to lask 'Drool control'.

Thanks ainitfunny, that was great!

It's the William Tell overture though.

(Hey, I grew up with the Lone Ranger...) :)

Very cool. Because of the way harmonicas are "tuned" I would think some are perfect for certain pieces.

The double and triple "tongue" work in the William Tell overture was very impressive. His breath control amazing. He made some nice adjustments to accommodate the harp in his arrangement.

Thanks!

Mike

ETA: One word, dynamics. Having some would put this over the top. :)

I am speechless. It is always a thrill to experience a true master craftsman (in whatever field) perform.

Played a bit as a teen but the slobber factor turned me off.

Out of curiosity I did a little research [[just now]] and, dayum-decent ones, not top-of-the-line are expensive.

Lots of lessons out there and those are expensive.

Les Stroud got me interested in them again and this guy really blows. [[ :D]]

My dad used to play a song called 'Adog named blue' when I was a kid-he used the guitar, be kind of neat to play that for him on the harp now he's hitting 70, he prolly forgot about all those years of 'Blue' but I never did. ;)

Same here. I used to take my harp (harmonica) everywhere I went. One night I was in a night club and the guy on stage there played the most beautiful music from his collection. During the break I approached him and showed him mine. He was surprised and asked if he could play mine during his next set. After he made that baby sing, I put it away never to speak of it again. I would never be that good and now I had proof....and you're right, I couldn't blame it on the type of harp I had. It was me.

You could never be that good, especially without trying. ;)

I'll never be Ansel Adams but I'll darn well cut my own place somewhere even if it only makes *me* happy.

Go on now...go find your harp and get to it, you know you want to so go on now and git!

And don't tell me you aint got one-they sell them all over the internet and most Wally Worlds.

I want to hear a .mp3 of you playing something-even 'Row your Boat' in a couple of weeks.

Git on in there girl and make it so. ;)

Musical talent is a wonderful thing.

I agree, Doat.
God played a cruel trick on me.... gave me a great love for music and singing but failed to give me any talent at all. I play no instrument and can not sing, except in the privacy of my own home. (I do sing at church once in a while, on our "singing" nights but that is just because you can't tell your pastor no every time. Luckily for me there are many others in the same boat so I don't stick out too much)

I am so chuckling to myself right now...because every word you said is true. I have been tempted ever since seeing that guy play in the video to go and get mine and let it rip. I've so far resisted. I just checked and both of my harps are sitting right over there on the book case staring at me. Actually I have three. The 3rd one is a small little key chain thingy that I picked up in a moment of weakness and used to play in my police car when I had a spare moment between calls.
...

It's taking me a few minutes to finish this post since I finally did go over and get them out of their little cases. All three are Honers. I couldn't even get one of the cases open for a minute there...the other harp is a bit rusty (I guess from spit and humidity) Gosh even the little bitty one still plays. What have I started?

OH MY GOSH! ...no-no, I have to put them down and resist... I can't go playing again now after all these years. Can I? I'm wonderin why they are sitting front and center on a bookcase if I never intended to pick them up again. It'd kill my husband's ears to start again. Poor guy. Oh well...too late now. haha

Man, I miss the 70`s... use to bend a blues harp in C doing Whammer Jammer by Magic Dick, love J Giles, John Mayall and the Ozark Mountain Daredevils among others. Like the rest of you harp blowers, I always had it in my pocket... And you are right, I am gonna take that sucker out knock the cob webs out, pour some Jack Black (always sounds better when sipping) and let it blow.

My Dad played left hand guitar and many an evening he'd get it out and we'd sing along with his playing.

It wasn't until after he died (1968) that I found out he had his own band and played on the local radio.

Thought he was just my dad!

Once there lived a chinaman Hike-o chike-o chicory chan, hike-o chike-o china man,
Glorna don a dusty oh, williper walloper china go

One day the people who loved the town, went up the hill and rolled him down,
From top to bottom they all began, to tickle and play with the china man.

Hike-o chike-o (rest of chorus)

One day the china man he died,
and in his coffin he did lie,
They carried him over to old japan,
and that was the last of the china man

Hike-o chike-o chicory chan, hike-o chike-o china man,
Glorn a don a dusty-o williper walloper china go!

Been at least 60 years since I heard my Dad play that.
