'Vaccines court' rejects mercury-autism link in 3 test cases
The finding supports a broad scientific consensus that the mercury-containing preservative thimerosal does not cause autism, and will likely disappoint parents who are convinced otherwise.
By Thomas H. Maugh II

The government's " vaccines court" ruled Friday in three separate test cases that the mercury-containing preservative thimerosal does not cause autism, a finding that supports the broad scientific consensus on the matter but that is likely to disappoint parents who are convinced that their child's illness has been caused by vaccines.

The court had ruled 13 months ago that the measles-mumps-rubella vaccine, commonly known as MMR, does not cause the disorder, and the new ruling may finally close the bulk of litigation on the matter. More than 5,000 parents had filed claims with the court, formally known as the U.S. Court of Federal Claims, seeking damages because they believed their children had developed autism as a result of vaccinations.

The cases that three special masters for the court chose to include in the omnibus proceeding were considered among the strongest, so the outlook appears grim for others making the same claim.

Special Master Denise K. Vowell wrote in one of the decisions that "petitioners propose effects from mercury in [vaccines] that do not resemble mercury's known effects in the brain, either behaviorally or at the cellular level. To prevail, they must show that the exquisitely small amounts of mercury in [vaccines] that reach the brain can produce devastating effects that far larger amounts experienced prenatally or postnatally from other sources do not."

She also dismissed claims that some groups of children are unusually susceptible to the effects of mercury. "The only evidence that these children are unusually sensitive is the fact of their [autism] itself."

The special vaccine court was established in 1986 because vaccine manufacturers were facing many liability suits that threatened their ability to continue manufacturing the valuable medicines. The court holds no-fault hearings to determine if a child has, in fact, been damaged by a vaccine. Compensation comes from a special fund based on a surcharge leveled on each dose of vaccine.

The court has made many awards to parents who successfully showed that their children were damaged neurologically or otherwise by vaccination -- a rare, but nonetheless real event -- but has refused to accept claims that autism is caused by vaccination.

Fair use.

And these folks thought they could convince this court that there was something going on that would threaten "their ability to continue manufacturing the valuable medicines?"

We all can feel safer now. Line up the kiddies and roll up their sleeves.

Dr. Stan Monteith and Dr. Russell Blaylock, a neurologist, a guest on Stan's radio show, dispute this assertion, pointing out that the Amish, who rarely have their children vaccincated, do not have the problem with autism, like the rest of the population.

Also, the doctors pointed out that there are a great many more cases of autism now, than when there were far fewer vaccines given.

I agree with the woman on the news tonight, who said 'govt studies defended a govt program run by govt doctors administering govt approved shots in a govt court.'

Amish DO have their children vaccincated, at a rate of about 70%, and STILL have a lower rate of autism (lower, not 0). The story Age of Autism by writer Dan Olmsted - is the one who started the myth that Amish do not have their children vaccincated.

My uneducated guess is that over exposure to flickering TV and computer screens does some bad things to the brain as a child (and perhaps as adult, too).

Back in the old days (1802), people made fun of the smallpox vaccine due to lack of understanding of the science involved. They believed it would turn them into cows because it was made from cowpox.

With the implication being, of course, that today those who choose to vaccinate are uneducated and if they'd only read up on it, they'd willingly take their children to be vaccinated.

No, there is a big difference education and understanding. I hope that understanding does not come when children start dying in large numbers from Vaccine-Preventable Disease.

The mercury in vaccines doesn't 'cause' autism in people who are not already predisposed to it...but, for those who already have a genetic propensity for autism, it can trigger the switch. But...government court, government program, etc.

I agree I have a son he is 13 now and normal but on his first large round of vacs at about 1 he came home and his eyes rolled back in his head. He was in my arms when it happen one min a upset toddler the next almost lifeless it was like his brain just shut off .We called the doctor they gave the run around its normal and such bla bla bla did not even want to see him. He was gone for about 3 days He came out of it but with extreme Sensitivity to touch we had to work with him touching different things like carpet ,grass trees, wall paper anything his feet or hands touched just about every thing caused him pain like his nerves were over sensitive need less to say that was the LAST vacs our children ever got.

Like the recent mumps outbreak in NY where over 80% of the people who caught it were vaccinated according to the CDC?

Or how about the droves of children who catch chicken pox every year who have been vaccinated against it? A large percentage of a local elementary school is currently going through that one.

As it is unscientific to say the Amish don't vaccinate it is equally unscientific to:

1. Say they vaccinate at a rate of about 70%
2. Use the Amish as a model for or against an autism study.

No one really knows at what rate the Amish vaccinate. They obviously don't flatly reject vaccination but there has never been a study.

The Amish have been isolated for many years and as such carry genetic disorders that are not as prevalent in the general public.

Secondly, as I stated on a previous thread, there is evidence of lower autism rates without vaccination. The paper I reference below concludes a 26% decrease in autism rate for children that are not vaccinated.

Yea, but the funny thing was that orthodox Jews accounted for more than 97percent of those cases. Those vaccinated normally have a 80% to 90%resistence rate. Those NOT VACCINATED are almost 100% sure of getting it.

Or how about the droves of children who catch chicken pox every year who have been vaccinated against it? A large percentage of a local elementary school is currently going through that one.

The chicken pox vaccine is also 80% to 90% effective, so 1000 exposed vaccinated children will produce some 200 cases, not including the unvaxed ones.

Yea I did. It says 70% of the Amish in Lancaster County Vaccinate. You said 70% of the Amish vaccinate. Not only was this not scientific, it can't be extrapolated to all Amish.

"exquisitely small amounts of mercury"...

If it's so "exquisitely small" then it should for all purposes be an inactive ingredent and should be removed. The fact that it's being used simply indicates that it's incredibly powerful to be active in such exquisitely small amounts.

Our family doctor, now retired because he couldn't stomach the .gov telling him how to practice, shared the opinion that there were too many vaxs too early in a child's life. According, I believe, to Dr. Blaylock, the response of the brain to the ingredients in the vaccine is to become inflamed. The more vaxs, the longer it takes the brain to recover. Apparently, some brains are unable to recover fully.

As far as huge numbers of people dying from these childhood diseases, I am 65 years old. Have had a few vaccinations, but nowhere near the numbers pumped into kids these days. The only disease that I recall was ever a significant threat was polio. Most of these other vaccinations are for diseases that in my lifetime have generally not been life threatening. I suspect that there is some motivation for requiring them other than protecting the children from being killed in droves. I'm tempted to say, "follow the money," but that would be kinda cynical.

Garryowen

Has No Life - Lives on TB
I think that a few vaccines, for most kids, are probably okay. But giving a child 50 different vaccinations between birth and puberty cannot be healthy.

I personally think that it's a combination of factors. All those shots, combined with all the artificial foods, combined with the severe lack of vitamin D in most people.

(Those anti-sun people are responsible for the deaths of millions - Low vitamin D levels increase risks for cancer, depression, dementia, MS, etc.)
