USS Cole Family Turns Down Request to Meet with 0bama

Fox reports the Swenchonis family of Texas said 1) they were given too little notice to get from Texas to DC and 2) most of the families 'couldn't be bothered to come' because they knew what was going to happen.

Mr. Swenchonis said he had written a letter to 0bama on January 24 expressing concerns over the actions taken with his son's murderer, but never got a response. He has since faxed the letter to the White House, which assured him 0bama will get it.

He also said he thought about the son he lost and cried all night long last night, after he heard the news on the charges being dropped.

I'm sure someone will prepare a better report with more information, but this is what I just saw on Fox now.

That poor man. And just think, he'll never get any justice for the death of his son. This is insane!

Here is a letter from Mr. Swenchonis posted on February 4, 2009:

http://terrorismpolitician.blogspot.com/

Fireman Gary G. Swenchonis, Jr. Denied Justice Here in the Country that he gave his life for.

President Obama: Do you know how much it hurts to see you drop the charges against our sons killers? First the Dictator of Yemen freed our son's killers. And now you sir. We had hoped for some justice here in our own country. But now it appears that politics are more important than justice and the truth.

President Obama I refused your invitation to meet with with you because I knew what you were going to do. Drop the charges against al-Nashiri, and stop the trial which we were getting ready to leave for today.

I want you to know that your actions broke my wifes heart. I sat and watched her cry all nite long out of frustration, anger, and emotional pain. Again. I should be used to this but I am not.

I have had to watch her cry before when Saleh of Yemen freed our sons killers.

When President Clinton refused to take any action against the killers.

And when President Bush refused to quit our country's support of Yemen.

And when the Justice Department refused to honor the Federal Court Ruling Against the Sudan which helped to murder our son.

And numerous other times when our government ignored our plight.

Will the Cole Victims and their familes ever recieve justice? I am begining to realize now that we never will have justice unless that justice is politically convenient.

You know, I'm not real sure, but I'm reading the materials on the link I posted to that letter and I THINK the site may belong to Mr. Swenchonis or another Cole family member!

I'm not real sure and I can't find any 'about' or 'contact us' link to click on.

Can someone go over to the site and confirm or invalidate my suspicion?

I know it hasn't been declared, nor will it be, a tragedy, but I am going to fly at half-staff for the next 10 days over this one. So sad.

It reads to me to be the father's blog, Koz.

Ok, then. Thanks for looking.

I just cannot imagine the pain of losing a child. One of my DS died almost 56 years ago, yet my DM says there is not a day goes by she doesn't think about her.

What an awful reason to blog. All they want is justice. They had no problem with the sacrifice, it comes with the territory. But all they want is justice. And that might never happen.

May God avenge those who were murdered. The government of the nation they served doesn't appear to be interested in it.
NEVER FORGET.

I think that family should have gone.

With their son's picture in hand and cameras rolling, they should have stood there, pretend to listen to Obama's lame excuses then simply turn and leave mid-sentence in protest. Later they will tell the reporters that they could not subject the memory of their son to that Commander in Chief and will wait and try to elect one who is worthy of him.

I agree, in the middle of his bs talks to them. I would have got up and turned my back to him in a shunning manner with the TV tapes rolling.

I think I would walk up to him, take one of my shoes off, and lay it at his feet. Then walk away.

Jake Tapper [ABC?], gutsy guy. Asks Gibbs in a press conference right now what about the justice for the USS Cole families?

Gibbs saying military tribunals too slow in administering justice 9 years after the event......

I guess my question is how much faster will the American criminal courts move? How long did it take us to prosecute the 20th hijacker? Better yet, how much more will it COST the taxpayer, who funds this trial?

Lakeina Francis' family has mixed reaction to Cole decision

Friday, February 06, 2009 3:00 AM By Steve Huffman
shuffman@salisburypost.com

The parents of a Navy sailor who died in an attack on the USS Cole in 2000 said they're happy that President Obama agreed to meet Friday with survivors. But Sandra Francis and her husband, Ronald, said they weren't made aware of the meeting early enough for them to travel to Washington, D.C., for the event.

Their daughter, Lakeina Francis, was 19 when she died in the terrorist attack in Yemen. The family lives in Woodleaf. Lakeina was a graduate of West Rowan High School.

"We're honored, truly honored," Sandra said of the fact that Obama was meeting with families of Cole survivors. "We tried for eight years to meet with Bush."

Seventeen sailors died in the attack on the Cole.

But Ronald Francis said he was disappointed with the senior judge's decision earlier this week to drop charges against an al-Qaida suspect in the Cole bombing. The charges against suspected al-Qaida bomber Abd al-Rahim al-Nashiri marked the last active Guantanamo Bay war crime case.

"Where's it going to end?" Ronald asked. "These guys are getting a free ride. Are we going to get justice or not?"

Read more about this case in Saturday's Post.

FL. Facts don't matter.:screw:

Guarantee me every one of them will be tried. Go ahead.

What facts? These are promises. Worth spit.

Better yet, prove to me that there is NO CHANCE these hadjis will walk. You know as well as I do that possibility exists.

Here's a fact not being discussed: The 'recidivism rate' for some of these returned hadjis is not too good. Ask Saudi Arabia, ask Yemen. Hell, Yemen is probably helping them.

They're going to be re-charged and tried in federal courts.

They will get theirs. Don't worry.

I'm sure the CIA types and others that helped build the case will be glad to come to court and blow any cover they have so a team of lawyers can ask them all the questions they want on national TV.

I'm not going to hold my breath, but...

Even if they happen to make it to a Federal Court, the charges won't hold and they will certainly be released and BO damn well knows it.

The terrorists were pursued and imprisoned outside of criminal rules -- they are being held under the rules of military law (war) as enemy combatants, you can't transfer that (and undo all that has led to the imprisonment) in a civilian court.

They are walking because the evidence gathered against them and under which they are held isn't allowed and won't be allowed in another forum.

Give them their I survied Gitmo t-shirts and dump them back where they came from -- next time, follow the optional rule of war and shoot their asses.

I think that the gov. will do what it needs to do to convict and hopefully execute these jihadis. Guarantee? Not if proper laws were not followed. It seems to me that that is what O is trying to make sure of. I do not understand why it has taken so long to try them in the first place.

What's happening is the same thing that happened under Clinton. We are now going to use a law enforcement model to deal with terrorism. We will have to catch them IN THE ACT before we can do anything with them. What does that mean?

I agree to a point. I do however think that O is trying to make sure the .mil court is the correct course.

Fox Live reporting on this now with their legal expert....she says:

"Waterboarding evidence would not be admissible in federal/US criminal court."

So any confession made in that scenario would be thrown out of court. So, Khalid Sheik Mohammed could be a free man, as well as this murderer of the USS Cole. Anyone who was waterboarded could conceivably go....free.

So charges being brought up again in federal/criminal court could end up a sheer waste of taxpayer dollars....no admissable evidence according to American jurisprudence, what then are you trying them for? Send them home....

It is not Constitutional for foreign combatants to be tried in our federal courts. This is PC bullcrap. If the accused is an American being held at Gitmo I'm all for them being tried in fed court, but not a foreign born combatant.

Obama is just pissing on the victims like all the other presidents have done.

Mother of a Cole victim [McDaniel], boycotted the meeting with the president today. In interview with Fox:

"There's nothing he can tell me that's going to make it any better. I am disappointed."
"Why the delay? Let it go forward, let it go through. He is sending the wrong message to the American people." "My other daughter said I should go and voice my opinion, the other said he should be impeached."

"They can come over here and blow up anything they want and hey, no charges!" "It's too easy for them."

"I think this will hurt us, it really will. There's nothing he can tell me. I'm really really disappointed with President Obama. He may be President, but he is wrong."

I saw that very interesting interview as well. She said she voted for Obama, but now thinks that was not such a good idea. This is coming from a black woman who is first and foremost, a grieving mother.

He is not just sending the wrong message to the American people. He is sending the wrong message to the TERRORISTS and to the world.

The prisoners can say they were waterboarded.....

but how do they prove they were?

The .gov is in the same boat.....how do they prove they weren't?

Somebody is going to walk. Maybe there will be snipers waiting for the bad guys when they are released. It may just come to vigilantism.
