US Could Launch Joint Retaliatory Strikes With Israel If It Is Attacked By Iran: Official

Update(1550ET): Upping the ante, a US official has told Al Jazeera that the Pentagon could intervene militarily if there is an Iranian attack launched against Israel.

According to a translation from Al Jazeera Arabic, the US source said, "We do not rule out launching joint retaliatory strikes with Israel if it is attacked by Iran or its agents."

There was no further elaboration, or an indicator whether a US joint response with Israel would include offensive strikes against Iran, or if this would just be defensive, for example - anti air measures. However, Axios has the following details which appears to confirm the Al Jazeera reporting:
The senior U.S. military commander in charge of the Middle East is expected to go to Israel Thursday to coordinate around a possible attack on Israel by Iran and its proxies, two Israeli officials said.
...The commander of the U.S. military central command (CENTCOM) Gen. Erik Kurilla is expected to meet senior Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) officials and Israeli defense minister Yoav Gallant.

Yesterday, Israeli officials threatened that Iranian nuclear sites could be targeted, in one of the biggest strike threats to date. The region is on edge awaiting an 'imminent' response by Iran following the April 1st deadly attack on Iran's embassy in Damascus. US intelligence has said it believes a revenge attack from Tehran is coming soon.

And just like that what was already a terrible day for doves and those hoping disinflation would finally arrive - not to mention Biden and the Fed - got much worse when moments ago oil spiked by over $1 per barrel with WTI jumping above $86 and Brent over $90...

... after a Bloomberg report that the US sees a missile strike on Israel by Iran and proxies as "imminent" to wit:
The US and its allies believe major missile or drone strikes by Iran or its proxies against military and government targets in Israel are imminent, in what would mark a significant widening of the six-month-old conflict, according to people familiar with the intelligence.
The potential assault, possibly using high-precision missiles, may happen in the coming days, the people said, requesting anonymity to discuss confidential matters. It is seen as more a matter of when, not if, one of the people said, based on assessments from US and Israeli intelligence.
Iran has threatened to hit Israel in retaliation for an attack on a diplomatic compound in the Syrian capital of Damascus last week that killed senior Iranian military officials. Israel has not explicitly acknowledged it was behind that attack, though it has traditionally followed a policy of ambiguity on operations in Syria, Lebanon and elsewhere.

US and Western intelligence indicates an attack from Iran and its proxies may not necessarily come from Israel’s north, where Tehran’s ally Hezbollah in Lebanon is located, the people said.
US and Western intelligence indicates an attack from Iran and its proxies may not necessarily come from Israel’s north, where Tehran’s ally Hezbollah in Lebanon is located, the people said. Israeli officials are in agreement with the allied view. They’ve also publicly threatened Iran that if it hits Israeli soil, Israel will hit Iranian soil.

Earlier on Wednesday Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei repeated a vow to retaliate against Israel for the Damascus strike, which he said was tantamount to an attack on Iranian territory.
And while the Bloomberg report said nothing we haven't already reported, perhaps it was the urgency of the headline or the market's hypersensitivity to anything that can push inflation even higher, that sparked the powerful reaction. Ironically, the news hit just moments after we correctly predicted that the idiotic Biden puppetmasters are about to push the world into yet another catastrophic war.

won't be Iran attacking Israel strait out - more terrorist proxy crap - probably won't even be in Israel >>> I'll be betting on an Israeli consulate attack in some corner of the world where it won't be expected ....

don't eliminate the DC consulate or any of the smaller US consulates as targets - use the Muslim protesters and work in close enough to get in an attack - cops on protest duty won't even know what hit them ......

I don't think that the "proxy game" is going to continue. That strike in Damascus IMHO closed that book.

Biden Administration Fears Iran Might Target U.S. Forces Over Israel Strike
Iran threatens to attack the U.S. if it assists Israel in defending against any Damascus retaliation.

Ken Klippenstein
April 10 2024, 8:00 p.m.

The White House is worried that Iran might strike a U.S. target as part of a potential retaliation for Israel’s April 1 attack on its embassy in Damascus, Syria, according to notes from a meeting involving National Security Council officials earlier this week. Tehran has vowed that “Israel will be punished” for the Syria strike and the killing of Quds Force commander Mohammad Reza Zahedi.

New concern about a potential Iranian strike comes even though the Biden administration has sought to distance itself from the Israeli airstrike, stressing that it had no advance knowledge of the operation.

“I don’t have anything more to say about the strike in Damascus, except that we weren’t involved in any way whatsoever,” NSC spokesperson retired Adm. John Kirby said on Monday.

On Monday night, Iran conveyed to the Biden administration that if it involved itself in defending Israel were Tehran to undertake a retaliatory strike, it would consider the United States a viable target as well. The issue was discussed at a Tuesday NSC meeting, according to notes reviewed by The Intercept. (The NSC did not respond to a request for comment.)

At the Tuesday meeting, an NSC official conveyed high-level concerns that the administration did not want to publicly appear to be in any official dialogue with Tehran, with whom the U.S. does not have formal diplomatic relations.

Last Friday, four days after the Israeli airstrike, over a dozen Republican senators signed a letter accusing the Biden administration of undertaking a “strategy of appeasement” with Iran.

Despite an-ever widening and escalating military action since the Gaza war began, the Biden administration has insisted that the war remains contained to Israel, despite attacks by Israel in Syria and Lebanon; despite repeated attacks by Houthi forces in Yemen and the retaliatory strike that have followed; and despite attacks and responses against U.S. forces in Iraq, Syria, and Jordan. The strikes by the U.S. (and its coalition partners) are always described as taking place against “Iran-backed” organizations and militias.

In January, three American Army soldiers were killed by a kamikaze drone launched by an Iranian-backed militia at a U.S. base in Jordan called Tower 22. There have been over 150 attacks on U.S. Middle East forces since the Israel–Hamas war began. U.S. Central Command, the Pentagon’s Middle East combatant command, has launched a seemingly endless barrage of strikes on Iranian-backed targets throughout the region, as well as undertaken naval and air attacks in and around Yemen.

The position of the Biden administration has consistently been that it doesn’t see any of this as escalation. “We don’t seek a wider war with Iran,” Deputy Pentagon press secretary Sabrina Singh said the day after the three U.S. troops were killed in Jordan. “We don’t seek further conflict, we don’t want to see this widen out into a regional conflict.”

Since then, the U.S. has quietly conducted talks with Iranian officials to seek to avoid direct confrontation between the two countries’ armed forces, according to CNN and other media reports. On Sunday, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said that Biden and his team are working to prevent escalation with Iran in the Middle East.

On Wednesday, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said that Israel “must be punished and it shall be.” That same day, Israeli Foreign Affairs Minister Israel Katz said his country would respond with a direct attack. “If Iran attacks from its own territory, Israel will respond and attack in Iran,” Katz posted on X. Since April 2023, the U.S. and Israel have been in close cooperation in sharing and building common Iran contingency plans.

There's talk that Iran is actually planning direct attacks this time. We shall see, I guess. There is always just such bluster when Muslims speak.

Iran always over talks, but they are likely trying to line up proxies to put themselves in the crosshairs.

Not sure the proxies want both Israel and the US raining down on their heads so Iran may have no choice but very select very targeted strikes hoping Obama can keep the Bidens from authorizing US strikes.

The Bidens threat is possibly hollow because if oil shoots above $100 the dem’s will get roasted in November. Although a weekend strike could further rattle US markets already looking shaky from hot inflation numbers preventing Fed from propping market up with free money before the election.

WW1 was not exactly started by the sides wanting a world war but political bumbling, misreading of enemies intentions and a series of escalating events that kept drawing in more and more countries into what everyone thought was a regional issue.

Sitting in the background is Putin who absolutely know’s the oil price is the ultimate political weapon that he can use against the democrats. Don’t think for a minute that Russia is not thinking about the perfect time to shock the oil markets.

It’s a good thing we have the strategic oil reserve to allow us to weather an oil shock,,,, errr, ummmm,

Never mind.

Oh joy. Another Biden-led neocon war. Just what we need.
I'm not seeing this- from this seat, it looks like the O-biden regime has completed contortions that rival houdinis in efforts to refuse to curtail/sanction Iran, and shows no real appetite to even use the proverbial rolled up paper on their noses, let alone lead a proper measure against em.
- indeed it's been this extraordinary appeasement positioning that has enboldened/enriched Iran and helped bring us to this point, no?
