Story Trying to remember a story

I read a story a while back about a teacher who got in trouble with an administrator named Ms. Torckelsen (sp) He and his wife moved to another community and was teaching in a one room school. Torqelson (sp) had found out and brought the police to arrest him for teaching in an unlicensed school. They lived in a "hacienda" style house with thorns/cactus planted around the edge. The Sherrif was head of the local militia and he rescues the teacher. They fought the .gov.


Does anybody remember that story and where it is?

THANKS!!!! I even have a hard copy of the book. I'll have to look again. Just couldn't remember.
