Thoughts of open source paint software?

I am thinking of documenting my life, using a number of sketches from my past. I can envision all of them, but I have no way to draw them. I see them in something like charcoal, no sharp edges or straight lines. Any suggestions for software?

Inkscape is one of the best open-source drawing pieces of software out there, it is very similar to photoshop and illustrator.

Inkscape is a vector drawing program. The best open source paint program is probably Gimp, or Krita. Inkscape probably doesn't do charcoal sketches. The others do.
