Lifestyle Thinking about a motorhome-camper-trailer

Have been shopping in my free time (not on Sundays, blue laws in Colorado for vehicles). After 2 weekends, this is what I have learned:

Class A look like buses.
Class B look like vans.
Class C look like trucks with built on & over housing.
Trailers hitch up to trucks.
5th wheels hitch up to trucks in the bed of the truck, and are a little easier to steer than trailers.

The towing truck needs to be big.
Diesel is better technology for hauling than gas.
Most of the newer ones have slides, which widen your interior area when parked.

I'm partial to a smaller size, but larger than the van type. They are so big, hard to imagine driving around. 24 to 31 feet seems OK.

This weekend, 5th wheels were on my list. But turns out they don't have generators, not as a rule. The "Class" vehicles usually do.

I have a large dog & 2 cats. The slides are pretty important for living.

I like the idea of having a truck and pulling, but only when I'm stopped! I rather dread learning how to tow a large, heavy thing in back.

Lastly, it's not just an emergency BOV, I have thought about wandering for a couple of years in it, w/ husband and pets.

Appreciate your thoughts.

They make small trailers in the 20 foot and smaller size that can be towed with a 1/2 ton pickup and the rear hitch kind leave the truck bed open for more stuff. Today most like this arrangement as its easer on fuel and cheeper to buy the truck and trailers in these sizes. The floor lay outs with some of 20 footers can be very open and roomy. The 5th wheels also come in smaller sizes but lack open or roomy space until you get into the 28 foot or bigger 5th wheels and then you have to go with a bigger and more expensive truck.

What do y'all think of a class C, 1999 Itaska, 24K miles, very clean, lightly used? NADA said 16K tops, but list is 24K.
