The mayonnaise master thread

I grew up eating Miracle Whip. As a senior adult, I like Miracle Whip light, but regular Miracle Whip not so much. It tastes off to me.

Be aware that the price is now up to around $3.40. Up from $2.08 earlier this year.

It is still a good value as the name brands are now over $5.00/30 ounces.

Except for Dukes, which is around $4.50/30 ounces on Amazon Fresh.

With my free delivery on Amazon Fresh, It works out to be almost as cheap as the Aldi's brand which charges for delivery.

Unless you bought 2 gallons of Dukes the last time this thread got going like I did. I couldn't find it local, so I did Amazon and never really read the size of the jars. Cost me like 12.98 for both back then. Color me shocked when 2 gallons showed up. I put them in my fridge and we are still using the first bottle. Dated out in September, and it's fine.

Not everyone likes mayonnaise, but those who do know that the quality of the condiment varies greatly from brand to brand. The best mayo complements a sandwich or potato salad perfectly, but the worst mayo completely overpowers whatever you’re eating. Every recipe is a little bit different, and it’s those little changes that really make the difference, as brands like Heinz are miles away from something like Hellmann’s. There are also vegan alternatives to the condiment, and some are a lot better than others. Let’s take a look at the ranking of every popular mayonnaise brand, from worst to best.

With that info, you've put on a real mayo clinic.

I love mayonnaise. Because of all the genetically modified oils in shelf mayonnaise, I attempted to make it myself out of organic olive oil and our own eggs from the coop. I failed miserably. It wouldn't thicken and it turned to soup. I must be doing something wrong.

Are you using a blender, and pouring the ingredients slowly? It can be tricky at first.

I have actually made good Mayo. I did only a small batch at a time and it worked well that way.

For the life of me I can’t remember what oil I used or where I got the recipe. But NOW, I’d use youboob to watch someone do it and give their hints. I’d try again finding a recipe that suited me and they watch a general youboob on it. It’s very easy. Good luck!

I don't like the word "evacuation" when used in the discussion of food I like, not to mention "slurry". Sorry, still am a mayo girl.
