So, here it is, 10 years or so (literally) after I worked for a month for the CoS and even after I have threatened legal action all these years (and have gotten no response); even after my dad threatened them, they are still sending me materials. Here's what I sent them yesterday (please, let me know what you think ).

To whom this may concern,

I am (removed), United States Army, and am currently stationed overseas.

I have sent this email to you to help avoid legal action that I am prepared to pursue via JAG, which is the Judge Advocate General’s office. As in, the lawyers of the UNITED STATES ARMY.

See, I have a huge problem and that is thus:

I worked for the Church of Scientology back in 2002 or 2003 (I don’t remember exactly) for a month or so, out of the (removed) branch. I left due to needing better employment, but found my experience there to be pleasant overall. Little did I know, that that would cause me to be hounded…

Fast-forward to today and here is the problem:

I have REPEATEDLY told your church / organization that I AM NOT INTERESTED AND TO CONTACT ME NO FURTHER.

And yet I am, after having moved, changed my address, etc., still getting correspondence.

I AM GOING TO MAKE THIS AS CLEAR AS I CAN:

IF I RECEIVE ANY CONTACT FROM YOU, THE CHURCH OF SCIENTOLOGY, IN ANY WAY, SHAPE, OR FORM, I WILL NOT HESITATE TO HAVE THE JUDGE ADVOCATE GENERAL OF THE UNITED STATES ARMY BRING A LAWSUIT OF MAMMOTH SCALE AND PROPORTIONS, UPON YOUR ORGANIZATION.

AND, TO BE SURE THAT YOU HAVE GOTTEN THE MESSAGE, I EXPECT AN ANSWER WITHIN A WEEK.
THE DATE TODAY IS 18 JUNE 2012. YOU HAVE UNTIL 25 JUNE 2012.

ALSO, A COPY OF THIS HAS BEEN FORWARDED TO MY ATTORNEY WITH JAG, AS WILL YOUR RESPONSE. I HAVE ALSO GIVEN THEM THE MATERIALS THAT I HAVE BEEN SENT RECENTLY. ATTACHED IS A PHOTO OF WHAT WAS SENT TO ME.

DO NOT TREAT THIS IDLY. I FIRMLY BELIEVE THAT YOU WILL DO WHAT IS RIGHT AND WILL PERSONALLY SEE TO IT THAT, IN A PROFESSIONAL MANNER, I WILL BE LEFT ALONE HENCEFORTH AND FOREVER.

THE ONLY FURTHER CONTACT I ANTICIPATE IS YOUR REPLY TO THIS EMAIL, INFORMING ME THAT I HAVE BEEN REMOVED FROM ALL MAILING LISTS, THAT I WILL NEVER BE CONTACTED BY YOUR ENTITY EVER AGAIN, AND ANY APOLOGY FROM YOUR LEADERS AS MAY SEEM FIT.

I give up.
Good luck with that. I stopped sending AARP any dues years ago, after only having been a member for maybe a year. They still send me stuff. It goes in the trash.

yeah good luck, suing someone for being on a mailing list seems a bit excessive...simply block them at the ISP level, block them at your post office, or simply discard the crap they send...easy enough

Not sure if you want opinions or what, and since you already sent it to them... then it's a bit too late.

I understand your intent is to provide them with a warning to never contact you.

But, the part about telling them not to contant you ever again doesn't make sense when you follow up with: expecting a response back within a week (requesting them to contact you).

*shrugs*

Well, I do hope this warning will be incentive enough for them to leave you alone in the future. Wishing you the best of luck!

I got on their list years ago and have been receiving their mail ever since. I thought about saving up all the flyers, etc. and returning them at the end of the year, to let them know I've never opened any of their mail. Otherwise, I just dismiss it as 'junk mail,' so,don't take it too personally.... :)

Thank you for all the feedback. The only real reason I have taken it this far is, being that I have asked them to leave me be
repeatedly and they have still persisted, based on their practices, I felt it necessary to take this level of action. However, I
have received a reply (finally) and believe they have truly gotten the idea.

Here is the reply I was sent:

"Dear Mr. Olson,

Thank you for letting me know about this and I apologize on behalf of all the Church of Scientology branches that continue to send you mail.

Your name was removed from our mailing list. Please allow 6-8 weeks for the mail to stop - it does take that long.

Thank you for your patience on this matter.

Sincerely,

Merav Ellis"

When organizations that I don't like keep sending me stuff, I look to see if they have any postage paid envelopes in their literature. Then I stuff it with literature from a group that they hate.

Gives me a laugh knowing that they are spending their money to receive something that they hate.

All that when you could just toss junk mail in the trash like everyone else?

I agree... Some things in life are not worth getting so worked up over... In life the saying "choose your battles" has alot of meaning...

I've done that. But what I do is take a red marker and write NO all over the place and come to think of it, I haven't gotten any junk mail in ages. The mailing lists they have is not just for them. It's includes everyone that's using that list. I can only figure when I started sending their postage paid envelopes back to them they finally got the message.

It is satisfying doing it that way with big fat NO's written on their applications or whatever,

Email is a waste of time. And you ask for no more contact then demand they respond.

Have a real lawyer draw up a letter and send it for you. Registered mail. It's your only chance.

Idle threat, kiddo. The military legal system would laugh you out of their office for trying to sue over a mailing listing. Not only do you need to choose your battles more wisely, you really need to make sure you know the propper ammo!

True story: back in the early 1970's, I tagged along with my sister and her friend to a Scientology "lecture" - being naive, I put down my address (actually my parents house in FL, since that is where I was living).

I got *really* sinister vibes from the people at Scientology, and didn't want to have anything to do with them.

Life goes on, I went overseas (twice), went to University, moved around, went overseas again - and the junk mail from Scientology kept arriving at my parents house. My dad didn't mind - he'd just use it to start up the fireplace.

The only thing that ended the junk mail is that my parents eventually sold the house, but the junk mail from Scientology kept arriving until the very end - about 1992 or so - about twenty years.

I tried a couple of times to have them stop, but gave up...

In a similar vein: I occasionally donate cash to local charities. When I do, I get on the phone and tell them that if they EVER use/waste a nickle of my hard-earned donation to send me requests for more cash, they will NEVER get another penny from me. If I do get a mailing, I will call them ONCE (everybody is entitled to one mistake in my book) and reiterate to take me off their lists. At that time I tell them I know who and where they are and if I want to send them money I know how. So far, only ONE of the outfits I have donated to has honored my request: Mercy Corps.

Years ago, there was a spammer, and he was well known, and bragged about it.
Some enterprising young buck, found out where he was, and commenced to sign him up for everything...
From what I understand, at the end of it, the man was receiving his mail in an 18 wheeler...
;)

I've been doing that for years. It usually stops the junk mail from coming from that organization as it costs them about .75 to get that "postage paid" envelope back from me. I love it!

Don't know if it's true, but I've heard of people taping the "postage paid" envelope to a brick and sending THAT back. Costs them a bit...

And I was sort of wondering if you'd actually ASKED your JAG before using them as a threat. I have a feeling they have a lot more important issues to deal with....

< Yes, I do look like that.
I have the entire Operating Thetan list, from OT1 to OT8, with notes and cross-references and even the handwritten "liner notes" from Hubbard himself if anyone wants. IIRC Scientology charges something like half a million bucks to "work your way up to" OT8. (What a value! :screw: )
