Well, between the storm to hit Ohio and a sick dog, we canceled our TDay trip. Lots of weather moving in and I would like to hear some firsthand accounts from Washington/Idaho/Iowa tonight and everyone else as it hits.

What starts out on the west coat moves east and usually gains strength. Especially with the high probability of freezing and sub freezing temps we are facing over Wednesday and Thursday. Keep safe folks. If you do have to drive in this weather, carry your survival gear, have the road triangles to put out if you get stuck in the ditch (flares don't work well with snow plows going by). Remember to keep your windows cracked open wide if you are running your car heater and you are stuck in a snow bank or ditch. Have accurate maps, have someone know to call the highway patrol to be on the look out for you if you are late and you have not checked in with your relatives. BE SAFE please. Black ice kills.

Thanks for starting this thread! From Western WA I can say this is one of the worst I have seen in my lifetime as far as road conditions go....blizzard conditions, temps dropping below 20 tonight, 35-40 mph winds most places and heavy blowing snow. Up north, the wind and cold even more severe. A cargo plane went off the runway at SeaTac (no injuries) and there was just a fatal collision reported at the Tacoma Dome on I-5. Crashes everywhere. Highways being shut down all over and people still out there stuck in delayed "rush hour" traffic. Power outages widespread. Our lights are blinking here. Temps not expected to warm tomorrow, but get colder before it warms up.

Already started here in Western Maine. Woke up to freezing drizzle which is still ongoing. Supposed to warm and just rain but I am not holding my breath. Not much ice out there right now but enough that we had to put sand down on the deck and in a couple other usual places. My ice cleats are on my rubber low top boots already.

Winter is here.

Can't wait for the storm to get here. Probably this weekend. Snow on ice. woo hoo....NOT!

On Friday we have to drive the first leg of our trip to AZ - we will hopefully make the first 500 miles to Helena, but storms are coming from the south into Alberta, so it will be the first year we have awful weather to drive through.

We have to drive through the mountains and the roads are interesting on a sunny day in parts, so we will have our snow gear with us along with swimsuits and flipflops for Arizona. It will sure be good to get there......

It is -30C tonight and clearing and I HAVE to drive into town tomorrow to make some last minute pickups for packing. That is -25F I believe - a bit early for those temps.

Boy oh boy. Sounds like we are all having fun. I posted on NWPhotog's thread asking what was going on as I have a granddaughter in that area. DIL phoned her to see if she was home yet. She texted back that she was just getting off and couldn't talk as she had to concentrate on her driving. DIL asked her to call when she got home.

And here of course, we have an inversion that covers a lot of the state. Freezing rain. Lots of ditch divers, etc., in Anchorage. Supposed to be the same tomorrow. I sure feel for those who commute. Schools are closed in both Mat Su Borough and Anchorage. I haven't heard about here yet. Although it is very slick out.

Stay safe, everyone.

First forecast I heard today calls for a nasty Thanksgiving day around here (Central CT down thru NYC) with possible heavy rain, wind, and temps only in the low 40's.

People out in the PACNW are apparently getting hammered.

Stay safe.

As touching the weather, it's 60 degrees, slightly overcast, no rain or wind.

This is why we call this time of the year "snowbird season".

In Idaho I 15 is closed, I 84 and all the state highways in eastern Idaho. Our valley is snowed in all roads are closed we have blizzard conditions. This ought to thrill the new people that have moved here and the skiers that want to go home.

Granddaughter called from Marysville, WA last night when she got home. Said the driver in front of her hit ice and spun three 360s in front of her. She learned to drive in the wintertime up here and knows how to do it without studs or 4wd.

We are getting rain, about 38 degrees right now. I heard on radio this am that it is also raining in Fairbanks and they expect it to beat record of rain which has lasted since 1937. WOW. I spent a winter in Fairbanks once in 61-62 when they broke records for cold. It got to -67 degrees that December. Really, really to not expect rain in Fairbanks in winter. Sorry don't have a link.

They also said this weather system is covering the whole state, including Prudhoe!

Checking the weather and it looks like we're off to a wild start for the western half of the country and may be in for some really cold temps in the next few days too.
