Thanx Jay & a general note...

Thanx, I appreciate the imput. My son refuses to read this until I'm finished & heaven only knows when that will be. Sometimes I really stall out. Two reasons for that; firstly, sometimes I'm really not sure "what happens next" & sometimes, there's too much to cover, so where do I start? LOL.

To all, I continuity errors have crept in. A few ages changed, a mixed up Joe & Jake a few times & you think I can remember what MT's first name is? ROFL! Lesson learned, do NOT attempt to write anything again without a graphic organizer. I haven't been using one. I usually spend part of the evening & morning in a charactor's shoes - trying to figure out what they'd be thinking & how they'd feel, then mid morning I sit down & just start typing. Lousy writing practice & it makes for spotty attempts at times.

In the next chapter, for my own sanity if no one else's, I've taken the liberty of listing who is who & how old they are. Details on the new charactors will come as I decide "who they are" in my mind. I can only "see" a few of the new people now. I could take time & carefully plot out character descriptions, but I'm trrying to stay as spontaneous as I can - if only for the fact that if such a scenario was ever to produce itself, people truly would be in the dark.

I apologize profusely for the many typos that continue to creep in. I edit, I DO! But the eyes glaze over after a while & some I simply don't see. Gotta find a spell checker I can use here...

Back to work... lots to do at the farm today...

CRAP!

Spent the last few hours working on a loong chapter; even was working offline.

Danged computer locked up just as I was preparing to save to a disk for safety.

I'll need about 90 minutes to rewrite it; bummer.

Back to work, but yeah, that chapter & maybe one more before bed tonight. Still have a lot to catch up on after me Xmas break...

Sue,

Great story. I look everyday for a new entry. When I see one it makes my day!

On the subject of editing, have you considered writing in Word of another word processor and then pasting it into your post. That is what I do over at Frugal Squirrels. I still miss a few mistakes, but Word catches about 95% of them.

Please keep writing and don't kill off MT...I like her too much. :D

MT fans can relax...

To be honest, I'd planned on killing her off - shoulda seen the funeral service I'd worked out...rofl! But that would be too easy, too logical & there's nothing logical about such nasty events as a major Outbreak.

I'm at the point now where I actually have to look up stuff. What the heck do I know about farming in Illinois? It's scary what I DON'T know about how to survive after such an outbreak but in a sense that makes the writing easier. My charactors don't have a clue either - not as individuals. If I sound like I'm scrambling when I'm writing some parts - I am. But so are my charactors as they try to make sense of some horrendous changes.

For the fiftenn or so readers I estimate I have left, I'll take this through a full year. There will continue to be some daily entries frrom Tom, et. al. & some weeks as they get busy, time between entries will be longer or the entries themselves may be very short. When they are, I'll post several the same day.

I know my posting is spotty - there's kids, DH, a clutter of cats to deal with, etc. Some days it takes me time to figure out where to go next with the story. Other times, like now, there's too much story, too little writing time. Long weekend is here, kids will be monoplozing the net, so I may be up very late or early; stuff may get posted at bizarre times.

Now to figure out... who to kill next.... hehehehe.

Just kidding.

I continue to try to convince Mom to write the new chapters in word for editing purposes (OK, so I can use the net on the other computer... is that a crime?), but she recently pointed out to me that we don't HAVE word on the computer she writes on... Oops. :shk: Will be rectified shortly... Maybe next time she gets writers block she'll C&P the whole thing into word, then go back and edit...

CS, I think you have a FEW more than 15 readers. You are writing a terrific story. I would love to see(and buy) it in print. I don't feel you ever need to apologize for the time you need. Your story is a real treat to look forward to. sincere thanks.

Kill kiddy...

I'd prewritten most of the next 4 chapters as yesterday & today are busy days. They were on a disk. My SD is in a royal snit with me & my disk has 'disappeared'. No proof... but.

Anyway; I'll need a couple of hours to rewrite at least 1; I think. Hopefuly it will be faster because I remember most of what I said...

Back to work...

Apologies again...

Yes, I've started doing what I should have done ages ago, writing to Word, doing a spell check & those really awful grammatical errors that 'slip' through are meant to reflect the fact that different folks are writing. Call them the product of modern education...lol. Half can't puctuate correctly. Frankly, being a product of fuzzy wuzzy feel good 70s schooling, neither can I. Must put myself through a grammar course...groan.

As for spelling. I tend to spell half in American, half in canadian. What you write as 'honor' we write as 'honour'; 'neighbor' is neighbour ' here. BriHard used this computer to do class work, essays & whatnot & he uses Canadian spellcheck. I try to use American, but don't always make sure that's the one turned on.

As to continuity errors. ..Thanx for not pouncing all over me & pointing them out. I often notice them too late after posting to correct them. My biggest bonehead error tends to be confusing Joe & Jake. Trust me to have chosen two men of a similar age with pregnant wives & similar names - sorry. I do tend to slip up that way & am learning a hard lesson. If I ever manage to write anything decent enough to publish, it will necessitate a small room with lots of wall space for lists, charactor sketches, calenders & other reference stuff.

This is just something I started with a different intent that ran away on me. AT, you were right. I'm up to something like 400+ pages & nowhere near any kind of conclusion. Well, I promised a clander year, so that's what yer gonna get. Call it a free post Apocalypse soap opera with a lot of 'lame'.

Seriously though, most of it is written as I sit in front of the keyboard. SOME of it is pre-planned, usually as I do laundry, go shopping, etc. Some store clerks have gotten used to me walking around looking strange. Odd what gives you ideas.

If it's all over the place it's because I keep running into situations, (mentally), that COULD come up if TSReallyHTF this badly. I promise I'll speed up the pace a bit & if I were starting over, I'd limit it to just a few diarists. Trying to change voices is proving next to impossible - would make it too much like work...lol. I just thank my lucky stars my DH is patient enough to let me sit here for hours on end & do this.

I am taking a bit of time tomorrow & noting new charactors before I start really messing up THEIR names. And no, I won't be introducing too many more. This is already turning into a mess. I will get back to the national situation as well as events overseas. I've been lazy on it & am lucky to have the 'excuse' that there's little communication.

So if Andy goes out & Jake comes back one day, I haven't morphed a charactor, just slipped name wise.

Now back to Sunday evening, after the big dinner...

Just Visiting
Sue,

WOW, thanks for the wonderful story.
It really sent chill through my core in the early parts as the story unfolded. And more chill as the details of the duanting task of plan survivial rolled out.

The grammar and continuity issues were a bit hard in some places, but I am certainly not one to complain - fellow 70's public schooler.

What would it take to coax more chapters -- How about some mangos? Fresh from the tropics?
