In the Land Down Under, a once-friend on the Book Of Faces has become basically a professional protester over her life and foolishly has an open FB so anyone can comment (like me ). Years ago, she was the primary driver to close a major airfield in Sydney which had been open since before WW2 (it became heavily restricted). She moved from Sydney to my home city and lived in a newer housing development under the flight path of that city's small regional airport (again built before WW2) and spent years and many thousands trying to shut that airport down (failed). Was elected to city council under the Greens banner for one election (and trounced in the next).
She moved house to our biggest port city and now aeroplanes have been pushed aside in favour of coal. Recently she posted about a protest to stop bulk carriers using the port and a couple of the shining lights of the protest were a couple a blokes who kayak long distances in support of things and, when not paddling, tow the kayaks with a Tesla.
Another friend posted the below. I just HAD to copy-paste it under her Tesla supporting post!
This is a CAT994A digger.
It burns around 1,000 litres of fuel in 12 hours, moves around 250 tons of dirt to remove materials needed to produce ONE Tesla battery.
To make any battery, you need to mine:
- 12 tonnes of lithium ore
- 15 tonnes of cobalt ore
- 3 tonnes of nickel ore
- 12 tonnes of copper ore
And moving 250 tons of dirt.
For only - one - battery that contains approximately:
- 12 kg Lithium
- 30 kg Nickel
- 22 kg Manganese
- 15 kg Cobalt
- 100 kg Copper
- 200 kg of aluminium, steel and plastic
And people believe in "zero emissions" when they drive their electric car.
