- Investigators are now saying that the suspect in the killing of Laken Riley on the UGA campus is NOT a United States citizen.

Watch how fast this story disappears...

The name of the suspect is Jose Antonio Ibarra, a Venezuelan.

How many more citizens have to die at the hands of illegal immigrants who are invading our country before we hold the officials accountable who have allowed this?

The blood of Laken Riley is on the hands of Joe Biden, Alejandro Mayorkas, and every single official who refuses to close our border.

Georgia nursing student found dead on UGA campus identified as Laken Riley

The Augusta University nursing student found dead on the University of Georgia's campus Thursday has been identified as 22-year-old Laken Riley.

Augusta University President Brooks Keel said in a Friday statement the school extends its "deepest sympathies to the family of Laken Riley, a junior and Dean’s List student who studied at our campus in Athens."

UGA said in a Friday statement that the school was "able to complete notification of the family in the death of the young woman whose body was found in the woods behind Lake Herrick yesterday afternoon. The victim has been identified as Laken Riley."

"Laken was a student at UGA through Spring Semester 2023, prior to transferring to the Augusta University College of Nursing program at Athens, where she was currently enrolled," the school said in a news release.

University police found Riley deceased with "visible injuries" in a forested area behind Lake Herrick around 12:30 p.m. Thursday after a friend called authorities to report that she left for a run Thursday morning and never returned. Investigators are investigating her death as a homicide.

Anyone who may have seen anything "relevant or suspicious" near UGA's Intramural Fields between 7 a.m. and noon Thursday is asked to call campus police at 706-542-2200.

"I think it's going to be a short period of time before they find a suspect," Georgia criminal defense attorney Philip Holloway told Fox News Digital. "It wouldn't surprise me if this is a criminal homicide."

The student's death remains under investigation as of Friday morning, a UGA spokesperson told Fox News Digital. Classes at UGA and Augusta University College of Nursing campus at Athens were canceled on Friday.

Holloway, founder of the Holloway Law Group, said authorities will likely set up a "geofence," or virtual fence, around the crime scene to determine who came in and out of the Lake Herrick area by looking into cellphone tower data. It should be noted that AT&T experienced a nationwide outage Thursday morning and afternoon, impacting customers across the southeast.

The last time UGA reported a homicide on campus was 20 years ago, UGA Police Chief Jeffrey Clark said during a Thursday evening press conference. The police chief said that there was not "immediate danger" on campus.

"Sources in the area are considering the possibility that this may be related to cases in the past," Holloway said, including any cases of assaults against assaults against women in the area of UGA's intramural fields.

Federal authorities said they were ready to help as necessary.

"FBI Atlanta is aware of the death at the University of Georgia," an FBI spokesperson said Friday. "We are in contact with our law enforcement partners. If assistance is requested, the FBI is ready to help."

Lake Herrick is part of UGA's campus, nestled between various university practice fields and Oconee Forest Park. The lake is bordered by a pedestrian trail and has a recreational beach. Authorities are asking the public to avoid the area as they investigate.

A University of Augusta spokesperson confirmed to Fox News Digital that the student's death occurred on UGA's campus.

"It is with deepest sorrow that I share with you the news that one of our students at our College of Nursing campus at Athens has passed away," Augusta University President Brooks A. Keel said in a statement. "Police have said they suspect foul play. The receipt of this news this afternoon was shocking to all of us."

In a press release, UGA said "foul play is suspected." No suspects have been identified as of Friday.

Athens-Clarke County Mayor Kelly Girtz said in a Thursday evening statement sharing his condolences and calling the death a "murder."

"I join everyone here at the Athens-Clarke County Unified Government in deep sadness over today's murder in our city," Girtz said. "We promise to do everything possible to collaborate with UGA PD to bring this investigation to a rapid conclusion, and will continue to work overtime to prevent further tragedies."

This is, of course, utterly, disgustingly, predictable- Hold people accountable for it from the power brokers than ensured it had fertile ground to occur, the religious NGOs that facilitate the invasion, on down to the fuzzy headed virtue signalers and lefties who serve as useful idiots trying to infest the public square with the idea this is ok...or that we shouldn't be judgey :vomit:

Gee, they have booked the bastard but you can't find a picture of him anywhere online. I guess illegal alien murderers have a 'right to privacy' ?
There is probably another surname that he uses and that is what it’s filed under. Depending on where it is located in his list of names, it will either be his mothers name or his father‘s name. Hard to say at this point, but I know that when I am doing Lease agreements, and all of that sort of thing that I make sure I put both surnames in case we have to turn them over to somebody. Meaning, the civil court for an eviction, or if our records are subpoenaed for some reason. And yes that has happened.

When are US citizens going to take this illegal immigration problem into their own hands? Having your children, spuses, assaulted, robbed, raped, and murdered. Clock is ticking..
Already happening. With rising costs of hog feed, there is an available supply base...

It is happening, just buried as the authorities can not afford escalations of violence.

Quick and fast Military style trial. Then quick execution. No rights should be given to this illegal non-citizen terrorist.

AND I heard, just as I got home from work, that the District Attorney of Athens is also Hispanic, and that this killer had "a criminal history." The speculation was that the DA, who has made no secret of her unwillingness to actually prosecute crime, may have had him up on charges before--and let him off.

After long and painful and pained reflection, I'm moved along the continuum to the point where I could support vigilante style groups of san fransisco type of the last century..if only I were confident that the people involved were mentally and emotionally sound with an entact moral compass serving as their north star.

It's where we're headed anyway, maybe it would turn out better if we went there sooner rather than later.

As a man who loves our Father and Jesus. I don't wish to bring harm to anyone. But once you commit the ultimate sin. You should be delt with accordingly. And illegals should be marched out humanely. But, if they resist. They must be forced.

I too seek to be a tool for my father, and have decided the most loving thing we can do sometimes protect the living and innocent, and send the criminal back to the father for healing of the defect, and to help him avoid further, indelible stains upon his soul.

..tis why I insist upon a working moral compass... as well as mentally and emotionally healthy humans. Though arguably Diogenes would have as much or more trouble locating one of these as he did in his search for the honest man. :: shrug ::

Athens-Clarke County, where a young woman was just murdered by an illegal, is one of 3 sanctuary cities in Georgia. The city is the home of UGA, and its status as a refuge for criminals could change very quickly if UGA’s donors refused to give their dollars & parents refused to send their kids until Athens stops being the liberal hellhole it’s becoming.

I say this as someone who lived, worked, & was married in Athens. I have watched the city go the same trajectory as every progressive-run city over the past few years. It’s dirtier, poorer, and less safe. I will never understand how people’s brains cannot wrap around the causal relationship between liberal policies and destruction. And how, even when faced with something as harrowing as a murder by an illegal, they still can’t for the life of them let go of their stupid, deadly ideology

Don't know if mentioned yet, but ABC nightly news showed clip of the press conference where the black guy mentioned the killer was not a US citizen. CBS nightly news carried the same story and showed same black guy, but kept out the part of killer not a citizen. CBS definitely the worst, especially with what it's doing to the fired reporter and taking her files, which reporters agree never happens

JUST HEARD on the 11 pm news (11 Alive) that HE STILL HAS NOT BEEN BOOKED INTO JAIL in Athens/Clarke County!

WHY the H not, I have NO idea!

ETA--the reporter on 11 Alive said--to his credit--that "we WILL have a mug-shot as soon as he is booked into jail."

According to her room-mate, she was going for her usual early-morning jog run----alone, and on a rather isolated trail.

She never came back.
Although women should not be confronted with this problem, I was hoping that lone young women would have learned not to run alone after the brutal Memphis murder of Eliza Fletcher back in September of 2022…

we'll never learn- and some of us just refuse to run scared, or cower because the world is a dangerous place and so many would use and toss us aside.

Not that I'm young. Nor am helpless or an easy victim, even when I take my w/o riverside.

Are there Sanctuary Cities in Georgia?

President Donald Trump wants to crack down on so-called sanctuary cities by stripping federal grant money from localities that harbor unauthorized immigrants. The plan is one of the executive orders Trump has signed in his first days in office.

What is a sanctuary city?

There is no single definition, rather it is a broad term applied to jurisdictions that have policies aimed at limiting cooperation with federal immigration enforcement actions.

Some jails, for example, refuse to prolong the detention of people who are about to be released after completing their sentences for federal authorities seeking to deport them.

Cities, counties and some states have adopted "sanctuary" policies.

Many of the largest cities in the country – such as New York, Chicago and Los Angeles - have forms of such policies.

What about Georgia?

Georgia has outlawed sanctuary cities in the state since 2009.

State lawmakers last year went a step further, in response to the killing of a California woman by a man who was in the country illegally.

The new Georgia law requires local governments to certify they're cooperating with federal immigration officials in order to get state funding.

» Trump's crackdown on immigration focuses new attention on Clayton

Atlanta has said that it remains a welcoming city for immigrants, but stops short of labeling itself a sanctuary city.

What’s next?

College campuses appear to be the next battleground. Nationally, there has been a movement to declare some universities “sanctuary campuses” to shield those students studying in the United States without legal status.

Among Georgia's public universities, the issue appears to be a non-starter.Georgia's Board of Regents said in December that while they respect the rights of students, faculty and staff to express their views, "calls for institutions to implement policies and procedures that may violate state and federal laws are unacceptable."

The incoming president of Emory University – a private school – said it would not be a "sanctuary campus."
