Beautiful! Is Alaska peace during the time of year that doesn't get very dark there?

Mo :rs:

It was taken at a time of year when there are, relative to the continental US, lots of hours of sunlight and very few hours of darkness. It was about 11:30 pm when I took that picture and the sun was just setting.

I doubt I could get used to that much daylight!

Here's a bit of a tutorial if you'd like it. I used that photo and if you want to emphasise or enhance the contrast of an image it's pretty easy to do if you have a graphics programme like PhotoShop or PhotoImpact. If not, I think GIMP is free online and, even though I've never used it, I hear it's quite good.

I took your original image and copied it, then pasted the copy on top of the original. Then I selected the "Soft Light" blend mode and merged the 2 layers. I upped the "focus" a little bit and then adjusted the "curves" just a bit to darken it some. You can get the same effect if you increase the "contrast" about +15.

It's really simple to brighten and enhance an image.

Here's the result.

Mo,
What a difference. Thanks for the tips!
Ah...teaching an old dog new tricks....it took years before I even was willing to go from an SLR to a digital camera. I admit, I have been putting it off, but I guess I really do need to get PhotoShop!
;)

Whoa, if you can get PhotoShop free, go for it, but I believe the less expensive programmes work just as well. I used PhotoImpact X3 on your sunset. You can get a 30 day free trial.
