Fruit Strawberry Patch

So I would like to expand the patch this spring.

I've had a variety before that are very tasty but only the size of a dime and very soft to the point of pulling them-they would break up.

I only had 8 plants last year but would like to fill the whole bed this time. It's 6x5 foot and very good soil. Just wonder what variety to try this year?

Depends on what type are sold in your area and whether you want June bearing, which bear once, or ever-bearing, which produce a second somewhat smaller but still adequate picking later in the season.

A boxed in areas really isn't the best way to grow them unless you have a long bed. Then plant them on one side of the bed and train all the runners to the other side of the bed to make next year's much thicker bed.
With your 5' bed you might be able to put your plants down the center and train the runners out to both sides and have two rows next year. After that, if they do well, you will have too many plants for that one small bed, even though strawberry plants only live two years. If you have really good luck with them, it would be just as well to get rid of each years plants after the runners are well rooted and not bother keeping them a second year.

I grow Ozark Beauty ever-bearing, but I live in Arkansas. No idea what varieties are recommended for your area.

Thanks Martinhouse, that's interesting advice. I should have said I'm in region 8/9. I think I have some research to do.
