Stealth prep training

This thread is for stealth prep training. It is dedicated to those of us preppers who are not ex-military or members of militias and are not likely to be asked to join. Preppers who do not have beaucoup money to spend on expert training and the travel, lodging and other expense that involves.

Want to learn farming? CSA's Community Supported Agriculture farms and historic sites with period vegetable and/or apothecary garden may be looking for volunteers. Another benefit was we got a lot of free seconds to can, culled vines and food for my family.

Wilderness Navigation? Ever hear of Geocaching?

Camping skills? First Aid? Canoeing? Boys Scouts have training for leaders. Do Girls Scouts offer it to?

Water safety? I got a small pay check and a lot of training in swimming, water safety, first aid by being a volunteer life guard (a good bit of exercise to!).

Any other ideas?

This too shall pass.
Get the kids in 4-H or FFA.

The SCA (Society for Creative Anachronisms) is a good place to learn some old-fashioned skills, too.

Lots of cooking and gardening videos on you-tube, lots of survival stuff, in fact.

The local library will have books on cooking, sewing, gardening, construction, solar and wind power, canning/preserving foods, animal care, wilderness survival, and on and on.

OGM, check out:

https://www.memrise.com/

It's free, and a fun way to learn lots of things from languages, medical, math, science to morse code.

If you're interested in shortwave radio but can't afford one, here's an online, fully tunable one that covers the whole spectrum. If you're not a ham, there is a bit of a learning curve to it! This one is located in the Netherlands, so bare in mind that the signals being received there aren't necessarily what you or a neighbor might be hearing at your location. But I would think that could be a good thing in certain SHTF situations.

ETA The link to memrise was wrong. Fixed it.

OGM... another possibility although slightly off thread...Gleaning fields after the farmers have harvested their crops. Used to do so when my kids were younger, yet old enough to help. They learned much about where our food came from, how it was raised, and that we needed to put forth some effort to glean our gifts from God...and how to be thankful for those gifts.

Not too long ago, these were just lessons for life in general.

A good thread tho, as much of this is considered fringe knowledge anymore.

Geocaching is a lot of fun especially with kids or now grandkids..... You can use grid coor., terrain features, gps, historical clues, and there is always a prize at the end.....
