Livestock Soft Egg?

Went out and checked the girls, no eggs in the boxes. Bit later roomie tells mwe he saw one. Went in and nothing in the boxes. Later found it on top of a five gallon bucket other end of garage nxt to one of their poop areas. Shell reminded me of a snake or turtle shell-soft but it was slightly crackly rather than leathery.

What caused those and is it just something that happens occasionally or something needing correcting?

We were given a bucket of oyster shell and some black gravel stuff [[for their gizzards]] Anyhoo, I mix the shell and gravel into their Scratch a couple or three times a week. No good spot to put it in some sort of tray for them so mixed it gets.

It's normal... some hens tend to lay them more often than others... they should be rare. They're as edible as the hard shelled eggs, but won't store...

Well, I will look at it again. Put it in a bag on the trailer to haul out as I did not know if it was a Mutant, or what. Might still be intact and it will likely freeze overnight.

I saw one similar to that in a carton of eggs in the grocery store this weekend. It seemed fine, but the shell was definitely on the weaker side. I put that carton back. Actually had to go through about 4 cartons before I found one that didn't have cracked/weird ones in them.
