Sardines for omega 3 and protein

Probably most of the regulars here know about the benefits of omega 3 fatty acids, mainly from fish. Some of you may be taking supplements, but you'd need a lot of horse capsules per day to get the benefits claimed by researchers (prevention of heart attacks and strokes, arthritis, asthma, and other autoimmune disorders).

I dislike taking supplements other than one multivitamin/mineral pill per day, and I'd heard that sardines had the most omega 3 and the least mercury of all fish, so I contacted Bumble Bee (which owns Beach Cliff sardines) to ask them for detailed information.

NOTE: not all sardines contain a lot of omega 3, they must be from cold waters such as Maine or Canada! Those cheap cans of sardines in tomato sauce often come from tropical places like Thailand.

At any rate, here's the information for one can:

1.2 grams (1,200 mg) of omega3 is quite a lot (if someone has a supplement handy, tell us how much is in it). And the amount of protein is also outstanding, an extra large egg has only 7 grams.

I love sardines! They are great out of the can with some Grey Poupon mustard. I definately have some in store as preps. They are also very high in various minerals.

Amazed

Does too have a life!
Thanks for that info Hermit. Sardines aren't my favorite but I don't hate them either. I must add some to the stockpile.

My bottle of Carlson's Cod Liver Oil says that each teaspoon contains between 1100mg up to 1250mg Omega-3 Fatty acids. (It also breaks is down into DHA EPA ALA).
