NATO’s 5,000-troop spearhead force, formally known as the Very High Readiness’ Joint Task Force, also could be activated.
Against 150,000 Russian troops.

Unless you want to think the US has Russia right where they want them.....all they will be is a speed bump.

Comrade Ivan what was that?

Pot hole. These Ukrainians can't keep their roads fixed. Good thing we invaded to help them.

Putin: Would Be "Criminal" To Stand By & "Spinelessly Watch" Ukraine Join NATO

BY TYLER DURDEN

Coming the day after the Biden-Putin virtual summit - which lasted two hours and the Kremlin described as "constructive" - despite the US president issuing severe warnings over Ukraine, on Wednesday Putin gave fresh remarks underscoring his country's legitimate fears of an American military build-up close to Russia's borders.

Calling for an immediate easing of tensions which were discussed with Biden during the earlier video conference, Putin asserted it would be "criminal" to just sit back and watch Ukraine join NATO.

According to a translation of his words in Russian state media, Putin said that "it would be criminal inaction on our side to spinelessly watch all that's taking place" - referencing the prospect of Kiev's moving toward NATO membership and the prospect of the Western military alliance establishing bases there.

Putin met with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis in the Black Sea resort city of Sochi on Wednesday. He issued the somewhat confrontational words to Washington while standing alongside the Greek PM. Putin laid out that "Russia conducts peace-loving foreign policy, but we have a right to provide for our own safety."

The press conference was also the first time Putin himself commented on his prior day's talks with President Biden:
"The talks were very open, substantive, and constructive. I hope that the American side sees the results the same way. We have the possibility of continuing the dialogue, that's the most important thing."

Putin has lately been calling for Western powers to give "legal guarantees" that NATO would stop expanding toward Russia's borders. Putin reportedly raised this subject with Biden on Tuesday. A Kremlin statement later said Biden agreed to hold lower-level discussions with the Russian government on these "red lines" and pressing concerns.

Putin had told his US counterpart, "you Americans are worried by our battalions on Russian territory thousands of kilometers from the U.S., while we have genuine concerns about our security, Russia’s security," according to Bloomberg.

Last month, Putin had told a Russian foreign policy conference, "We’re constantly voicing our concerns about this, talking about red lines, but we understand our partners — how shall I put it mildly — have a very superficial attitude to all our warnings and talk of red lines."

Recall too that Russia-NATO communications are at a historical low point - essentially not even happening at all - after Russia closed its diplomatic mission to NATO, following Brussels accusing Russia of running a "spy shop" instead of using it for legitimate diplomatic needs.

The White House said Biden would this week brief America's European and NATO allies on what was said and agreed to during the Putin virtual summit.

Czechs to deploy troops in Poland to guard Belarus border
The Czech government has approved a plan to deploy 150 service members in Poland to help guard the border with Belarus
By The Associated Press
8 December 2021, 08:22

PRAGUE -- The Czech government approved a plan Wednesday to deploy 150 service members in Poland to help guard the border with Belarus.

Defense Minister Lubomir Metnar said they will have a mandate to stay in Poland for 180 days.

Both houses of Czech Parliament still have to approve the deployment. That is expected to happen by the end of next week. The Czechs would join the similar numbers of troops deployed in Poland by Britain and Estonia.

Poland’s government and the European Union have accused authorities in Belarus of directing thousands of migrants and refugees from the Middle East to its border and using them as pawns, tricking them into trying to enter Poland, Lithuania and Latvia to destabilize the entire 27-nation EU.

“The European Union cannot tolerate that,” Czech Foreign Minister Jakub Kulhanek said, adding that more sanctions against Belarus can’t be ruled out.

Last week, the EU imposed further sanctions against Belarus, aiming at those accused of participating in a “hybrid attack” on the bloc using migrants. The United States, Britain and Canada slapped simultaneous sanctions Thursday on officials, organizations and companies in Belarus.

Was listening to an interview on the radio earlier this morning with a correspondent on the ground in Ukraine. He said that he expected if anything happened it would be later into the winter so a threat to Europe to turn off natural gas from Russia would have more telling effect. He also said the preparations he was seeing were like something out of a news reel from 1939 superimposed upon today.

President Biden plans a Thursday call with Ukraine President Zelenskiy to ho over what he and Putin talked about yesterday, per WH. He will also talk to leaders of NATO allies on the eastern flank.

Final elements of $60 million security package to Ukraine will be arriving this week, namely small arms and ammunition, per @PentagonPresSec. US expects Ukraine to use Javelin missiles defensively but has placed no geographical restriction on their deployment in Ukraine. -Kirby

I'll refer you to Desert Shield and Desert Storm, where Coalition forces did exactly that for about six months...and Ukraine is a lot closer to Russia than Kuwait is to the U.S./Britain/France, etc.

I have to wonder if there has been a buildup near the Baltic states, although I understand the redline the Russians stated about Ukraine, it would seem to me that little would be gained by the Russians invading there, and fighting a protracted guerilla campaign with the population for the next ten years, I could understand this as a feint, while invading the Baltic states. It’s war either way, what is the plus side of Ukraine, not much for either side.

Biden Says Sending US Troops To Ukraine "Not On The Table"
by Tyler Durden

Authored by Dave DeCamp via AntiWar.com,
On Wednesday, President Biden told reporters that he is not considering sending troops to Ukraine to confront Russia. Biden’s comments came a day after he spoke with Russian President Vladimir Putin about the tensions surrounding Ukraine. The US is accusing Russia of building up troops near Ukraine to prepare for an invasion, a charge that Moscow denies.
"That is not on the table," Biden said when asked by reporters if the US would send troops to Ukraine if Russia invades. The president noted that Ukraine is not a member of NATO and has no security guarantees from the US or the alliance.
Via Reuters
"We have a moral obligation and a legal obligation to our NATO allies if they were to attack under Article 5, it’s a sacred obligation. That obligation does not extend to… Ukraine," he said.
During talks with Putin, Biden warned that if Russia invaded, the US would impose harsh sanctions on Moscow, send more troops to NATO’s "eastern flank" that borders Russia, and send more weapons to Ukraine. BBC writes that:
Mr Biden said he had made it clear to Mr Putin during Tuesday's meeting that there would be "economic consequences like none he's ever seen".
He was confident that the Russian leader got the message, he added.
Putin said Wednesday that he hopes to continue dialogue with the US on the situations and plans on sending proposals to Washington to reduce tensions. The Russian leader is seeking guarantees that NATO won’t continue to expand eastward or put missiles in Ukraine that could target Russian territory.
Not really - he got NS2 as done deal, sanctions out of NDAA, vague sanctions threats if he actually goes in, big power summit of NATO fat cats which divides NATO, and promise for Biden to push Ukraine to give autonomy for DPR and LPR in Minsk. Bullying pays? https://t.co/LqzLJrVwIl

Putin also called the suggestion that Russia was planning to invade Ukraine was "provocative." On Monday, CIA Director William Burns said US intelligence agencies have not concluded that Putin is planning an invasion, contradicting recent US media reports.

War hawks are gonna "war hawk"....MIC is important for the economy dontcha know. Doesn't matter that some of the most beautiful parts of Our Nation will glow and Our Precious Sons and Daughters become cannon fodder for a battle that we have NO business being involved in.

As far as Captain Puddingcup...how many times have I heard "not gonna do that" and then not more than a few weeks later, a reversal of course decision becomes the Law of the Land?

Jaded, yep I am. Liars, cheaters and thieves...ALL OF THEM!

Looks like #Russia is conducting a major command, communications and strategic nuclear forces exercise today. This sort of a mobilization of the strategic forces is required to provide credible nuclear umbrella for offensive operations. But these happen every now and then. twitter.com/pmakela1/statu…
