Russian fighter jets land in Crimea amid Ukraine tensions

BELBEK, Crimea (Reuters) - More than a dozen SU-27 and SU-30 fighter jets which Russia is deploying to boost its air force, amid heightened tensions with Ukraine, arrived in Crimea on Saturday.

A Reuters witness saw the jets land at Belbek air base in Crimea, which was annexed by Russia in 2014 after Moscow-leaning Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovich fled Kiev following street clashes and violent protests.

Tensions between Moscow and Kiev have risen in the past weeks after Russia seized three Ukrainian navy ships and their crews on Nov. 25 in an incident which Moscow and Kiev have blamed on each other.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has alleged Ukraine was preparing “a provocation” near Crimea before the end of the year.

Watch: Ukrainian Lawmakers in Massive Parliament Brawl

Ukrainian lawmakers broke into a massive brawl Thursday during a parliamentary session, continuing a long-held tradition of trading punches over the issues of the day.

A video showed several members of parliament throwing punches at each other after opposition lawmaker Nestor Shufrych accused pro-Russian Ukrainian politician Viktor Medvedchuk of being Russian President Vladimir Putin’s “agent.”

As Shufrych walked away from the podium, he tore down a poster displaying Medvedchuk’s face. But what happened next caused tensions to rise in the chamber.

I'll ignore the "suck it up" comment Doug-that brawl in the Duma is politics Eastern European style. Our politicians use words, the eastern european types are a bit more how shall we say "visceral".
And Poroshenko was elected after one of the greatest corruption scandals in Ukranian history. Look up the Naftogaz scandal. The prior president made a pretty penny on the deals, and Russia ended up with the oil rigs anyway when they took Crimea. Neat tidy package, yep.
Also
Here is a decently accurate list of the units that make up the Russian Southern military district. It's off Wikipedia so may not be entirely up to date. These units are heavily loaded with conscripts.
Another thing-they don't mention any units within Belgorod oblast, There were large tank/combined armor units and at least one SAM brigade there at least up until 1995. Looks like those units either disappeared or dropped off the face of the earth. Belgorod city isn't a closed city but there are some pretty important specialty steel plants there.
Belgorod city is about 80km north of Kharkiv, Ukraine.

Ukraine’s leader orders Orthodox Church to change its name

KIEV, Ukraine — Ukraine’s president on Saturday signed a bill that orders the Ukrainian Orthodox Church to change its name to reflect its ties to Moscow.

The Ukrainian church has been part of the Russian Orthodox Church for centuries, but some Ukrainian orthodox clerics, with government support, have moved to set up a separate independent Orthodox church in Ukraine. The move comes amid Ukraine’s disputes with Moscow after Russia’s 2014 annexation of Crimea and its support for separatist rebels in eastern Ukraine.

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko on Saturday signed the bill ordering the Ukrainian Orthodox Church to explicitly indicate its link to the Moscow Patriarchate in its name.

He said that would make it easier for Orthodox believers to choose between the new independent church or an Orthodox church that is still tied to Moscow.

“It is easier to make a choice when all things are called by their names,” Poroshenko said.

He insisted that the law doesn’t infringe on the religious freedom. The Ukrainian Orthodox Church, however, has strongly protested the bill, denouncing it as an unconstitutional attempt by the government to meddle in the religious sphere.

When the Ukrainian parliament passed the bill Thursday, over 1,000 priests and parishioners of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church rallied outside the parliament building in Kiev to protest the move.

The Moscow Patriarchate also strongly condemned the creation of the new Ukrainian church, warning that it could trigger sectarian violence.

Metropolitan Hilarion at the Moscow Patriarchate said in televised comments Saturday that the Ukrainian authorities’ actions would encourage Ukrainian ultra-nationalists to try to grab the Ukrainian Orthodox Church’s assets.

“They incite nationalist forces to continue their attempts to seize churches,” Hilarion said.

SEVASTOPOL, December 24. /TASS/. Battalions of the Russian Black Sea Fleet’s Bal anti-ship missile systems held drills on the Crimean Peninsula, the Fleet’s press office reported on Monday.

"Battalions of the Black Sea Fleet’s Bal anti-ship missile systems have completed their planned exercises in Crimea. The crews of the firing batteries performed measures to change the combat order and the location in the positioning areas of the Crimean Peninsula after completing the drills for detecting surface targets," the press office said in a statement.

The drills were aimed at practicing measures to detect surface targets, provide target acquisition and prepare the systems for delivering missile strikes in various conditions.

The drills involved 30 pieces of military and special hardware and about 100 troops.

The Bal mobile coastal defense missile complex with the Kh-35 anti-ship missile is designed to control territorial waters and straits, defend naval bases, other coastal facilities and infrastructure, and also defend the coastline in the areas vulnerable to amphibious assaults.

The system can be used in any weather conditions, day and night, with the fully autonomous guidance after the launch amid an enemy’s fire and jamming. The system can strike targets at a range of 120km with the Kh-35 missile and 260km with the Kh-35U missile.

Timoshenko describes Ukraine’s local elections as Armageddon

http://tass.com/world/1037605 (fair use)
December 24, 12:57 UTC+3

KIEV, December 24. /TASS/. The leader of Ukraine’s Batkivshchina party, Yulia Timoshenko, has pointed to mass violations in last Sunday’s elections of heads of territorial communities.

"The elections were terrible. I’ve been in politics for many years and I’ve seen many things. What I witnessed this time, though, was extraordinary," she said. "Ballot papers were photocopied, ballot papers were totally unprotected, a hundred faked ballot papers with marks suddenly emerged out of nowhere… Bribery was massive through all resources available to the current legislators who participated in the election from the current authorities."

Also, Timoshenko complained about the return of the notorious situation in which a large percentage of voters cast their ballots at home without any officially recognized excuses or certificates.

"In fact, it was an Armageddon of election. There was everything - rigging, compulsion and bribes. People were coerced into quitting the race. The authorities used arm twisting tactics to force those who’d wished to run as self-nominees to participate from the Pyotr Poroshenko Bloc."

Russia Ukraine War: Moscow Could Launch Armed Attack Over Christmas While the World Is Distracted, Experts Warn

By Cristina Maza On 12/24/18 at 2:34 PM
Newsweek

As people in Western Europe and the United States get comfortable for the holidays, the chances increase that Russia will take advantage of the distraction to launch attacks against its neighbor Ukraine, experts said.

On Monday, when the millions of Christians who follow the Gregorian calendar celebrate Christmas Eve, the Russian foreign ministry warned “it is quite possible” that Ukraine will launch military action against Russia in the next few days. Kremlin spokeswoman Maria Zakharova even suggested that Kiev was planning to stage chemical weapons attacks in eastern Ukraine as a pretext for launching an attack.

But experts and Western military analysts said it was Russia that was likely to launch an attack on Ukraine.

“Moscow likes to commit aggression when the world is not paying attention. It invaded Afghanistan during the Christmas season in 1979 and attacked Georgia during August vacation season,” ambassador John Herbst, former U.S. ambassador to Ukraine from 2003 to 2006, told Newsweek.

The conflict between the two neighbors has been simmering for exactly five years, but the past month has been especially tense after Russia seized three Ukrainian naval ships and detained 24 sailors on November 25. The Ukrainian detainees still have not been released.

Ukraine has since instated martial law in parts of the country believed to be vulnerable to Russia and warned of an imminent ground invasion by Moscow. Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko warned in early December that Russia had around 80,000 troops stationed in parts of occupied Ukraine.

The international community, meanwhile, accused Russia of aggression and called on Moscow to obey international law. But experts said that the holidays, combined with the recent resignation of Secretary of Defense James Mattis in Washington, could create the perfect scenario for a Russian offensive.

“The weak Western reaction to Moscow’s escalation of its war against Ukraine by seizing its ships also raises the odds of a further Kremlin strike," said Herbst. "So does the disarray in Washington, with the Mattis resignation and early departure."

On Saturday, Russia sent additional warplanes into the Crimean peninsula, which it annexed from Ukraine in 2014. Meanwhile, Ukraine’s navy signaled over the weekend that it would be ready to fight back if Moscow once again tried to stop Ukraine from using key ports around Crimea. International law dictates that Russia and Ukraine must share access to the Sea of Azov and the Black Sea, and analysts said that Moscow was determined to solidify its control of the waters around the Crimean peninsula.

“The Russians are seeking complete dominance over the Kerch Strait and the Sea of Azov, and the Ukrainians aren’t willing to surrender control of their territorial waters or freedom of passage through the strait, as is their right. So the potential for escalation is high,” Michael Carpenter, a former deputy assistant secretary of defense in charge of Russia, Ukraine and Eurasia, told Newsweek.

“I worry the Ukrainian navy is far too small to assert its rights in the face of the much larger [Russian] Black Sea fleet, so if I were advising Ukraine I wouldn’t attempt another passage through the strait right now,” Carpenter continued. “The creation of the mosquito fleet, as foreseen in Ukraine’s naval development plan, is the right strategy, but it will take years to get all the assets in place, and meanwhile a crisis is looming in the coming weeks and months.”

Some analysts also warned that Russia may be aiming to unite some of the territories that surround Ukraine in order to create a Russian-controlled protectorate north of the Black Sea that resembles a military frontier once held by the Russian Empire. The new attack jets sent to Crimea and the deployment of Russian ground troops along the border with Ukraine are signs of such military ambitions, analysts said.

“This is consistent with pervasive rumors of a military operation by Russia to establish a land ‘bridge’ from the Russian-controlled territory along the coast of the Sea of Azov into the Crimea. I also heard a discussion of Russia reviving the 2014 ‘big war plan’ and going all the way to the borders of Moldova, connecting to the Transnistria pro-Russian exclave, which is legally a part of Moldova,” Ariel Cohen, a senior fellow at the Washington, D.C.-based Atlantic Council, told Newsweek.

Moldova, a tiny country located between Ukraine and Romania, gained independence from the Soviet Union and was formally recognized by the international community in 1992. But the people of Transnistria, a strip of land with around 500,000 Russian-speaking inhabitants, fought Moldova for a country of their own.

Moscow continues to support Transnistria's independence, and Russian troops have been stationed there since the 1990s. Russia's military presence there makes Ukraine even more vulnerable to a ground invasion, military experts noted.

“Taking into account the resignation of the secretary of defense, Mattis, and the isolationist mood in the White House, Russia may decide that the time to act is now, to accomplish what they call the Novorossiya [New Russia] program, which includes the dismemberment of Ukraine,” said Cohen.

The threat of armed conflict did not appear to have dampened the holiday spirit, however. Over the weekend, in Ukraine's southern port city of Crimea, people dressed as Deda Moroz, the Russian equivalent of Santa Claus, marched along the seafront.

Remember, in both Russian and Ukrainian traditions; the 25th isn't Christmas it is January 6th.

These days because the world is so international, the 25th is known and sometimes even observed in some public ways but it January 6th/7th when the celebrations are.

So Russia and/or Ukraine would not be starting/engaging in military activities during their own version of Christmas.

Per bolded - what are "Norwegian spec-ops rangers and operatives" doing embroiled in this fiasco, and why does the article describe them as being "of Israel's Mossad?"

And, why would Israel's Mossad also be tangled up in this mess? What interests of Ukraine's **somehow** magically align with that of Israel?

Provocateurs? Enablers? Puppet masters?

Defenders?

Of what?

Any commentary/confirmation from the Norwegians, or Israel?

Many western hidden hands and agendas in play.

Agree, or disagree, Russia's motives appear "relatively" transparent, when compared to the hidden agendas compelling western neocon forces.

Who are the real problem children in this whole affair?

PHOG of war.

The sightings were made by "pro Russian proxy forces in eastern Ukraine. IE pro Russian militia, not OSEC or Russian forces. Which probably means these militia forces spotted someone in an Norwegian alpenflage coat or someone who "looked Jewish" and extrapolated the hell out of what they saw.. Hell, I wear an Afghanka hat when I work, so someone could easily say Soviet troops were in the Washington DC area under the same conditions. And no, no confirmation from the Norwegians publicly and the Mossad never kisses and tells.

It's masikrova, psyops from a pretty adept FSB trying to whip up pro Russian sentiment from the looks of it. This sort of action will either spike in intensity within this week or build slowly up to the time of the invasion.

This story apparently just got posted to the Kiev Post-however it shows a 7pm local time for posting. Perhaps it took a little time to upload it?
In any event, indications appear to get stronger as to where the initial strikes may take place-Kherson oblast. First indications that Russia may invade for "humanitarian reasons" because of the water situation in the Crimea, and the damming up of the canal by Ukraine since Crimea was annexed.

Here is a map of the Mid Crimean canal, the Kherson oblast canal as mentioned.

Ukraine braces for further attacks as Russian forces mobilize
By Toma Istomina.
Published Dec. 24. Updated Dec. 24 at 7:06 pm

Blockaded at sea, surrounded on land and surveyed from the air, Ukraine is set to face yet another Christmas and New Year in the shadow of looming Russian aggression.

Following the Nov. 25 attack on Ukrainian vessels in the Black Sea‘s international waters, in which three boats were seized and 24 Ukrainian sailors captured, Russia has mobilized more of its forces in Crimea and on Ukraine’s eastern border as experts warn that further military aggression seems likely.

In the final days of November, Ukraine implemented limited martial law and put its armed forces on high alert, preparing itself for further aggression. But the weak response so far from Western countries following the Black Sea attack could have created favorable ground for Russian President Vladimir Putin to take further military action in Ukraine’s east and south, without fear of serious consequence.

Since Russia illegally annexed the Crimean peninsula and invaded Ukraine’s east in 2014, up to 10,500 people have been killed, including almost 3,000 Ukrainian soldiers, while at least 94 citizens of Ukraine have been taken as political prisoners, kept in jails of Russia and Russian-occupied Crimea.

In May, Moscow finished the construction of its Crimean bridge that runs across the Kerch Strait, connecting Russian territory and Crimea. Since then, Russia has effectively launched a new offensive and taken control of the strait, delaying Ukrainian and international vessels in what some Western lawmakers have called a “slow strangulation” of the Azov Sea.

Read also: Ukraine navy chief: If Russia attacks again, we are ready

In response to that, and the Nov. 25 aggression, Ukraine implemented martial law in 10 oblasts bordering Russia, the Black and Azov seas, as well as Moldova’s breakaway Transnistria region, where Moscow has stationed troops since 1992.

Shortly after, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko claimed that Russia was mobilizing its military forces near Ukraine’s eastern border. According to the president and Ukraine’s security services, Russia has over 80,000 troops both in Russia near the Ukrainian border and on Russian-occupied, Ukrainian territories. Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has also reported that Russia recently brought Iskander missile systems to its borders with Ukraine and relocated around 100 warplanes in Crimea.

Since martial law came into effect on Nov. 28, Ukraine has taken a number of steps to strengthen its defense. The defense ministry created councils in the 10 oblasts under martial law, held military exercises and re-deployed the Ukrainian Air Assault Forces to the most dangerous areas along the Ukrainian-Russian border.

In addition, Ukraine earlier passed the budget for 2019 boosting spending on defense and security but experts are still warning that Ukraine and its Western allies are dangerously under prepared for a new, Russian offensive.

Dangerous predictions

According to the Institute for the Study of War, or ISW, Ukraine is correct in bolstering its defenses: the think tank also reports that Russia continues to build up and prepare its military forces for possible offensive operations against Ukraine, from both the Crimean peninsula and the east.

“It remains impossible to assess whether Russian President Vladimir Putin has decided to launch an offensive or will do so, or whether the visible military preparations are intended to pressure Ukraine and its partners without escalating to additional open conflict,” their recent report reads.

The ISW says that all the evidence suggests that Putin is preparing to attack.

The fact that Russia maintains a blockade of Ukrainian ports in the Azov Sea and mobilizes forces on the Ukrainian borders point to possible military actions, ISW experts have concluded.

The report claims that another sign of an impending attack is that Russia has increased its propaganda activities, using false information to fuel dissent and create confusion, while other experts warn that Russian intelligence has seriously stepped up its activities throughout Ukraine.

“The Kremlin is flooding the information space with false warnings that indicate its intentions to spread fear about an upcoming attack. The Russian Foreign Ministry claimed that Ukraine and the West are planning imminent attacks in Donbas,” the ISW report reads.

The ISW says that the attack might come from the northern Crimean peninsula toward the Dnipro River, near Kherson, a city of 290,000 people some 550 kilometers south of Kyiv. The report suggests that the move could be intended to seize the North Crimean Canal supplying fresh water to Crimea, which Ukraine has blocked since 2014.

“Putin would likely unjustifiably claim the right to invade to stop a humanitarian crisis resulting from the blockage of the canal. Such a claim has no legal validity since Crimea remains legally part of Ukraine over which Russia has no rights, and thus the status of the canal is, in law, an entirely internal Ukrainian matter,” the report reads.

“A Russian occupation of Kherson would allow Russian forces to interfere with — and possibly cut off — ship movement into and out of Mykolaiv, one of Ukraine’s most important ports and shipbuilding centers. Such a development, together with the illegal seizure of Sevastopol and aggression around the Kerch Strait, would leave Ukraine only a single major port (Odesa) outside the Russian area of military influence,” the report continues.

Michael Carpenter, a senior director with the Penn Biden Center for Diplomacy and Global Engagement said that the world should watch out for a Russian military incursion into Ukraine next year.

In his Twitter post on Dec. 23, Carpenter, just like the ISW, assumed that Russia might target the North Crimean Canal.

Carpenter also said that Russia might seek complete dominance over the Sea of Azov and Kerch Strait in 2019.

Weak Western reaction

After the Black Sea attack, Ukraine called on the West for a strong response to Russia.

Instead, however, it received the regular statements and tweets of condemnation and solidarity from leaders of Western countries and international organizations.

The General Assembly of the United Nations passed a resolution on Dec. 17 calling on Russia to withdraw its troops from Crimea and condemning growing Russian military presence in the Black and Azov seas.

The European Parliament, in a resolution passed on Dec. 12, suggested a strengthening of economic sanctions against Russia. In almost five years of war, the old measures first put in place in 2014, have had a debatable impact on Moscow.

On Dec. 21, the European Union formally agreed to extend the economic sanctions against Russia for six months, but no new measures have been approved.

In reaction to the attack, the United States made a decision to provide an additional $10 million in Foreign Military Financing to further build Ukraine’s naval capabilities.

British lawmakers, including the country’s secretary of defense, paid a visit to Odesa and the cities of Mariupol and Berdiansk on the Azov Sea, just as HMS Echo, a Royal Navy warship entered Ukrainian waters of the Black Sea to undertake freedom of navigation manoeuvrers alongside the Ukrainian navy.

But international observers and analysts are still saying that the West’s response has not been robust enough to deter further Russian moves against Ukraine, and that a weak reaction to further, Russian violations of international law has sent a signal to Moscow that it would remain unpunished in the case of further military aggression.

U.S. President Donald Trump fueled further concerns when he announced, on Dec. 20, that he would withdraw troops from Syria – a move that some analysts have said surrenders the country to Russian dominance.

An ally of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, Putin, whose troops have been involved in the Syrian war since 2015, welcomed Trump’s decision. While Trump keeps acting in contradiction to his own experts’ opinions, Putin might use the confusion in the White House to cement his interests in the Middle East and North Africa, while also launching a fresh incursion into Ukraine.

Russia Expands Targeted Sanctions Against Ukraine

https://www.rferl.org/a/russia-expands-sanctions-ukraine/29675861.html (fair use)
December 25, 2018 15:04 By RFE/RL

Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev has expanded Russia's targeted sanctions against Ukrainian individuals and legal entities.

Medvedev posted on Twitter on December 25 that he had signed the decree expanding the list of sanctions targets to "defend the interests of the Russian state, companies, and citizens of Russia."

Some 200 individuals and legal entities were added to the list.

On November 1, Russia imposed "special economic measures" against 322 Ukrainian individuals and 68 companies. The sanctions included freezing non-cash accounts and other assets in Russia and a ban on capital transfers from Russia.

Among the individuals on the original list were Interior Minister Arsen Avakov, Security Service chief Vasyl Hrytsak, former prime ministers Yulia Tymoshenko and Arseniy Yatsenyuk, Crimean Tatar leader Mustafa Dzhemilev, and former Right Sector leader Dmytro Yarosh.

The list is based on an October 22 decree by President Vladimir Putin. Putin said at the time that the punitive measures could be canceled if Ukraine lifts all restrictions it has imposed against Russian citizens and companies.

Kyiv took measures against Russian citizens and companies following Moscow's 2014 annexation of the Ukrainian region of Crimea and in response to Moscow military, political, and economic support of separatist formations in eastern Ukraine.

Some 10,300 people have been killed in fighting in eastern Ukraine since early 2014. Although Moscow denies interfering in Ukraine's domestic affairs, the International Criminal Court (ICC) in November 2016 ruled that the fighting in eastern Ukraine is "an international armed conflict between Ukraine and the Russian Federation."

The European Union and the United States have also imposed sanctions against Moscow over its involvement in Ukraine.

Write to Ukrainian political prisoners in Russia this Christmas

Participants attend a rally in support of captured Ukrainian sailors and other Ukrainian political prisoners, whose arrests in Russia and occupied Crimea are regarded as politically-motivated, according to organizers in central Kyiv on Dec. 17, 2018. The banner displays the names of captured Ukrainian sailors and reads "Remember those who are in captivity!"

The Christmas and New Year period is often a time for friends and family to be reunited – but for nearly 100 political prisoners from Ukraine who are still held captive in Russia and Russian-occupied Ukrainian Crimea and Donbas, that won’t be possible this year.

Ukrainian political prisoners, including soldiers, civilians and sailors, who have been illegitimately held at prisons in Russia and its occupied territories, still hope to be released, but have no reliable means of communication with the outside world except through the sending and receiving of letters.

At least 94 citizens of Ukraine have been taken as political prisoners and are held in jails of Russia and in Russian-occupied Crimea and Donbas, despite widespread condemnation. Many of them are being held in inhumane conditions and are suffering from life-threatening illnesses.

To support Ukrainian prisoners in Russia and its occupied territories, the EuroMaidan Press news site, together with the Association of Relatives of Political Prisoners of The Kremlin and the Center for Civil Liberties, are urging people to send letters to the almost 100 illegally-imprisoned Ukrainians in Russia.

The annual campaign, called “Winter Marathon,” started on Dec. 24, and will last till mid-February: it asks that people write and send letters to Ukrainian hostages in Russia its occupied territories.

According to Olexandra Matviychuk, the head of the board at the Center for Civil Liberties, the organization has already received over a hundred letters to be passed for those Ukrainian hostages, including both soldiers and civilians, imprisoned in Crimea and areas of occupied Donbas on charges that are widely regarded as without any legal basis and politically-motivated.

“We give addresses of Ukrainian political prisoners in Russia, so that people can send letters directly to them, however, it is much more complicated with those who are in Crimea, so we decided to collect letters for civilians and soldiers who are in Crimea now, and then transfer them through layers and relatives of those hostages,” Matviychuk told Kyiv Post.

On Dec. 24, the Center for Civil Liberties organization shared a Facebook post saying that “At least 70 Ukrainian civilians and 24 Ukrainian navy sailors will spend the winter holidays in cold, Russian prisons this year.”

Mailing addresses of Ukrainian political prisoners in Russia can be found here have been published here.

Those who want to write to Ukrainian navy sailors who were seized after Russia attacked Ukrainian naval vessels near the Kerch Strait on Nov. 25, can find their mailing addresses here.

The organization also shared a list of criteria and suggestions on writing letters to Ukrainian political prisoners in Russia.

All letters should be written in Russian language, with neutral political content, indicating a full name, patronymic, last name and year of birth of the addressee. Moreover, people who expect a reply can add a blank piece of paper, a Russian postal stamp and an envelope to their letter, in addition to the letter.

Matviychuk said that letters coming to political prisoners in Russia from all over the world also serves another vital purpose: it can guarantee their safety.

“When prison workers see how many letters our hostages receive, they realize our political prisoners are in the spotlight,” Matviychuk said.

Matviychuk also urged people to write letters to Ukrainian political prisoners, who are still being held in Russia.

“Write letters! They remind prisoners that they are not forgotten, that we fight for their release, and wait them to come back home,” Matviychuk wrote on her Facebook post.

Call To Declare War With Russia Tabled In Ukrainian Parliament

By wmw_admin on December 22, 2018
South Front – Dec 21, 2018

Poroshenko and resolution to declare war with Russia

A draft resolution calling for the declaration of war with Russia was introduced to the Ukrainian Parliament on December 21.

The full title of the document is “Draft Resolution on the appeal of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine [Parliament] to the President of Ukraine regarding the declaration of war, the breakdown of diplomatic relations and the cessation of transport links with the Russian Federation”.

The document was introduced by a member of parliament Kupriy Nikolaevich.

It’s unclear when the Ukrainian Parliament is going to vote on the proposed declaration of war.

Resolution Calling To Declare War With Russia Is Introduced In Ukrainian Parliament

On December 20, Secretary of the National Security and Defence Council of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov revealed that the Kiev government is to stage a new provocation against Russia by sending another naval group with so-called “international observers” through the the Kerch Strait.

On December 19, a resolution was introduced in the US Senate called for a international freedom of navigation military operation in the Kerch Strait and the Sea of Azov.

Meanwhile, the US and other NATO member states have increased their intelligence activity across the Russian borders. Washington is also withdrawing combat-ready troops from Syria and Afghanistan. Some sources say that these forces could be needed for the US in case of participation in some “new” military conflict.

The following article gives a little different picture than what most do...it gives the other side of the story, which is always good to know. After all, what our MSM tells us is what our govt. wants us to think.

I do know that a few years ago, several Americans, incl. McCain, Kerry and Brennan were stirring up trouble, in Ukraine. There is a lot more that we aren't being told, but remember....there has been a rule, agreed upon by the neighboring nations, that ships going under the Kerch bridge that the Russians built, are supposed to stop and get checked, as I recall, to prevent possible sabotage of the bridge, which was a tremendous feat to build, at much expense.

The 2 Ukrainian ships and its tugboat tried to race through and under the bridge without stopping, this time, causing the Russians to take after them and arrest them.

I'm only speculating, but have read, and do think it's plausible, that NATO or our Deep State put Ukraine up to this, to instigate a war....we know our Deep State wants to get us into war! Just read, below, at the staggering amount of tax money America is giving to Ukraine! Next will be our young men and women in uniform, I fear. MMJ

Ho Ho!… Washington Bears Gifts for Kiev’s Neo-Nazi Warmongering Regime

By Finian Cunningham on December 24, 2018
Finian Cunningham – Strategic Review Dec 23, 2018

Oh what a lovely big stocking-filler for the Kiev regime this week from Washington. Just in time for Christmas too, and only weeks after President Petro Poroshenko tried to incite a war with Russia from a naval provocation in the Kerch Strait.

First we had US government envoy Kurt Volker announcing this week that an additional $250 million in military weapons were being packaged in Congress for Ukraine. Then the DC-based international lending institutions, the IMF and World Bank, signed off on multi-billion-dollar loans for Poroshenko’s regime.

US government-owned Radio Free Europe described the new financial loans as a “victory” for Poroshenko. The apparent investor confidence bestowed by the Washington-based “development agencies” will boost the incumbent president’s re-election prospects in the forthcoming ballot in March. Up until recently, Poroshenko was trailing in opinion polls and looked set for a trouncing defeat in the election. How convenient that the IMF and World Bank – under the control of US government – should step up to the plate with a very big helping hand. And that’s not seen as interference in a country’s sovereign affairs?

Since the CIA-backed coup d’état in Kiev in February 2014 against the elected government of Viktor Yanukovych, it is estimated that the US has provided the cabal that seized power with up to $1 billion in military aid. And those dubious gifts keep coming, with the envoy Kurt Volker this week announcing to a forum in Brussels that the US Congress is processing an additional $250 million.

It doesn’t seem to bother American lawmakers that the Kiev regime is dominated by Neo-Nazi demagogues and paramilitaries who worship Stepan Bandera and other Ukrainian collaborators in the Third Reich’s Final Solution. Just recently President Poroshenko was photographed inspecting Ukrainian special forces some of whom were donning insignia of the Third Reich’s SS.

As Russian President Vladimir Putin pointed out in his annual press conference this week, the Kiev regime has been waging a war and a blockade against its own Ukrainian citizens in the eastern Donbas region for over four years, in which civilians continue to be killed on a daily basis.

One reason why that war remains largely unknown in the West is because Western news media don’t report on it. Or when they do, they distort with lies that Russia has “invaded Ukraine”. This is similar to how the Western news media largely “forgot” to report on the war in Yemen, and when they have bothered to mention Yemen at all, they again distort by calling it a proxy war with Iran.

The Ukraine war against the ethnic Russian people of eastern Ukraine is driven by a rabid Russophobia subscribed to by the Kiev regime consistent with the exterminatory mentality of the Third Reich with whom their antecedents collaborated with during the Second World War.

The criminal recklessness of Washington knows no bounds. Just as President Donald Trump announces this week that he is pulling out American troops from Syria (illegally present there for the past four years), the same administration is stepping up its military involvement in Ukraine.

After the November 25 incident in the Kerch Strait when three heavily armed Ukrainian warships violated Russia’s maritime border, one might have thought that the US backers of the Kiev regime would have prevailed upon it with caution not to incite Russia. Not a bit of it, it seems. The US is giving notice that it is increasing its already hefty military support. That amounts to a green light from Washington to the Kiev regime to continue its provocations.

The timing of the IMF and World Bank financing is also blatant, and equally reprehensible. The IMF said it had approved $4 billion in new money for the Kiev regime, the first tranche of which will be disbursed by December 25, Christmas Day in the Western calendar! Together, the IMF and World Bank loans will enable the Kiev regime to seek taking on even more debt from other international sources, their approval acting as an endorsement of “sound economy”.

Ukraine is already lumbering from huge national debts of around $115 billion. The IMF and World Bank are therefore pushing the country into deeper arrears. No doubt that is part of the threadbare pattern of how Western capital will strip the country of its resources and the populace thrown into debt slavery.

Nevertheless, grave legal questions arise. It is understood that the Bretton Woods institutions of the IMF and World Bank, officially affiliated with the United Nations, are forbidden from lending money to states which are in the midst of armed conflict. How is it then possible that those institutions are bank rolling the Kiev regime given the latter’s horrendous assault on its own people in eastern Ukraine, its explicit affiliation with Neo-Nazi ideology, and its brazen attempts to provoke a war with Russia?

Furthermore, IMF lending was supposedly put on hold in 2017 because the Kiev regime was not complying with demands to crack down on corruption and implement political reforms. If anything the economic and political corruption in Ukrainian territory under the control of the Kiev regime has become an even bigger, more rampant problem. The IMF and World Bank announced their “financial goodies” this week without providing any evidence of purported conditional improvements.

This all makes for a grim prognosis over the coming months. The Kiev regime has no intention to go back to the 2015 Minsk accords which called for a negotiated political settlement in Ukraine. As Putin remarked recently, as long as the current cabal in Kiev remains in power then conflict will be the order of the day.

The US government and the Washington financial institutions are ensuring that the cabal remains in power with their generous rewards of military and capital injections. More disturbing is that the Kiev regime will feel emboldened to take its warmongering against Russia to an even more reckless level.

Father Christmas is supposed to reward good boys and girls. For Washington, the gifts are evidently doled out for a Neo-Nazi rogue regime with blood on its hands.
