Wal-Mart mobilizes against Democrats
report 1 hour, 55 minutes ago

(Reuters) - Wal-Mart Stores Inc is mobilizing U.S. store managers to lobby against Democrats in November's presidential election, fearing they will make it easier for workers to unionize, The Wall Street Journal reported on Friday.

In recent weeks, thousands of Wal-Mart managers and department heads have been summoned to mandatory meetings at which the retailer stresses the downside for workers if store workers unionize, the paper said.

About a dozen employees who attended meetings in seven states said executives stressed employees would have to pay hefty union dues and get nothing in return, and might have to go on strike without compensation, and warned that unionization could force the company to cut jobs as labor costs rise, the Journal reported.

The Wal-Mart human-resources managers who have run the meetings didn't tell those attending how to vote in the November elections, but made it clear that voting for the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, Sen. Barack Obama, would be tantamount to inviting unions in, the Journals said.

Wal-Mart could not be reached immediately for a comment.

I wonder how many Democrats shop at Wal-Mart and how their bottom line would be effected if we started to boycott the store.

Good for them. I remember a few years back, I had "Show Gore the Door" on my marquis. Business went up, with a lot of positive feedback. And I'm surrounded by Dem's.

Interesting, for sure.

The .gov has no business either promoting unionizaton or prohibiting it. But the concept of limited government has little support these days.

In addition to Walmarts low wages, even without unions the suits should create a "company store" where their employees can buy everything they need to live. With such a great benefit they could lower wages even more, maybe get the minimum wage reduced. Maybe they could even create compounds of company living quarters for their employees. Makes great sense with all the foreclosures. OF course to keep order, the employees need to be locked in the compound at certain times.

Gotta compete with that child and slave labor of all the nations the U.S. money exchangers have invested in.

Better yet, keep bringing all that 3rd world labor over here to do the work and you don't have to worry about unions. You can get even more fiat currency into the hands of the paper shuffling, capital grabbing non-producers who make their money off of those who actually work for a living. Supply and demand you know... flood the workforce with foreigners and you can pay workers in the U.S. next to nothing. Damn lazy Americans with their socialist, entitlement attitudes anyway, they should be liquidated and replaced with a more compliant and obedient workforce. That would be great for corporate profits!!! Can't the displaced find a real job? Government is the biggest employer, maybe they can get on there.

I know they have had these meetings at the store I used to work at, as when I was in there shopping last week they were telling me about it.

What ever it takes to not have Obama in the white house.

Also I have been in unions before and the statement that they just take your money and do nothing for you, IMO is correct.

I don't think it's appropriate for an employer to tell employees how to vote, or to campaign. I don't care WHAT political party it is, or what candidate.

Agree about unions. They're a ripoff.

I agree. The union will raise the cost of doing business by 30%-40% overnight.

Actually, the higher wages could actually change Walmart for the better. You see, right now there are millions of workers out there who are sitting at home raising kids who are in school, don't have to work, retired, working part-time somewhere else. I will tell you this right now, if Walmart starts paying $10/hr-$12/hr for "cashiers," the following will happen:

#1: They will install more "U-Scans" to reduce the number of cashiers. The first Walmart Neighborhood Market that opened was all U-Scan/do-it-yourself checkouts. They eventually took more than half out just because the AARP types couldn't figure the things out. As the baby boomers who did not keep up with tech changes die-off, you will see more of these do-it-yourself scanners.

#2: There will be massive firings of the ghetto/welfare-to-work types they currently hire. The millions of people sitting at home might actually be more than willing to work 20-30/hrs week for the new higher wage. While expenses could go up, so could customer care. Instead of me hearing about the cashiers babie's daddy, or trying to understand her ghetto/trailer court slang, I might actually get to interact with someone with an IQ above 10. Watch for the cries of "racism" and other "discrimination" when the welfare class employees get the boot once wages go up and that brings in more cleaner, smarter, better applicants.
