As far as good winter cars, I've never found anything better than a Subaru. Their "all wheel drive" is fantastic, although I agree that I HATE ABS brakes. My little Impreza is only front wheel drive, but instead of only ONE wheel being a drive wheel (like most American cars) both will drive, and the car automatically gives power to the one with the better traction.

Subaru is having 1.9% for 60 months on new 2004 cars. The commercials were for the Outback, but actually it's for any of the cars. I am honestly thinking about getting one of their Foresters. They are running about $25K though and that's a little bit too high for my taste. My car has a lot of problems and I would be happy to get enough to pay it off (about $4,000.00). If they can get my payments down to $400.00, I might go for it. I would definatly take care of it better than my current car. Plus, I would watch the miles. I have 91K on my current car and a whole year to pay on it. However, I did get a good deal on it (2000 Grand Am). The 1.9% is said to end Feb. 2nd, but the sales person said he has a feeling they will continue it due to the weather and so many people coming in asking about AWD. Plus, the Forester has NOAA weather alert radio..which is nice. If I thought I could get a year of no car payments out of my Grand Am...I would keep it, but the way it's going I have a feeling I will selling it the moment I pay it off March of 2005.

If you check out the Toyota Canada website
www.toyota.ca
you can get to the Canadian Black Book guide where you can load your info and get an idea as to what your cae is worth (black book value).
Don't look to get those kind of figures for you car unless it is in IMMACULATE condition. I just got rid of mine a couple of months ago. I bought a used 1999 model with low kms. on it, but after 1 winter I got rid of it. Just couldn't get over the poor design of the cupholders!
Seriously, it was a peppy car, but not a family car for more than toodlers.
I was disgusted with how much I was offered by the dealer at first, basically since he told me they couldn't move the ones they had.
I showed him my original bill of sale for it and haggled back and forth to get a deal on a newer, larger car. Maybe he was embarrrased as to what he offerd me compared to what I paid.... nah not likely.

Anyways, there are creative financing deals being offered everywhere.

Just don't believe the 0% BS. Surfe they give you 0% financing ON THE RETAIL STICKER PRICE. Don't let the talk you into something you don't need, and will be overpaying for!

Best thing to do is this: I need my payments to be no higher than x dollars. It's that simple. They either can or cannot lower the price that much. My cousin did this and ended up with a good deal on a car. Personally, I think I am going to hold off. My car is running and running good. The only thing is the coolant leak which could cost $800 to fix. However, if that is all it is and it runs good from then on...I would consider that a drop in the bucket. My goal is to have the car for another two years, one year would be me paying nothing on it as it would be paid off. That is the goal. However, I will still save that $350/month and then hope to put that down on another car. Hopefully changing the oil and high interstate miles will keep it running another three years. A $7000 downpayment would be great.

Watch out for that finance offer. They usually have a disclaimer stating to the effect that it's for people with the best credit.
