Sounds like you did very well. I’m having a hard time convincing a man who has lived all but four years of his life in NH that it’s time to go. I just want to live somewhere that we aren’t busting our a$$es just to pay the property taxes.
And freezing your butt off to do it. Had a friend tell us NH only has 3 seasons. 1 cleaning up from winter 2 getting ready for winter and 3 winter. !!

One of the reasons we left. Landlord was paying $7500 a year in taxes. Plus what the average rent was 1k coming up with a grand total $1700 a month. Moved to GA 3 bedroom house with full basement 925 a month. NH was a two bedroom basement apartment.
Something about that doesn't sound right. Like your landlord was taking you for a fool. A basement apartment implies that was at least one other floor of living space. It e like you were being overcharged, like you were paying the entire bill for the whole property, rather than just your portion of the living space.

Believe it or not the upper 2 stories were part of a doctor’s office. The town tried to do the whole building as commercial. Had to have several inspections of our apartment to prove it was an apartment. The building was also in the “Historic District “ and taxed at higher than normal rate. Their last child will graduate in two years from college and then they will be so outta there.

I own 20.73 acres in South Carolina on the edge of a very rapidly growing area. The land next to me just sold for $28,000 per acre for 200 acres in 2017. From what I can tell its going for around $45,000 an acre now if you can find any. Mine is listed as AG use. Two years ago taxes were around $27 total. LAST YEAR IT WENT UP TO $28. I WAS PISSED!!!! :)

They will tell you they used an independent tax assessor and there's nothing to be done. Ask them when they hired a tax assessment company did the fire the county tax assessor.
