PRYR RQST Pray for rain for Iowa, the Crops are Dying!

Crops (corn) is slowing up here in MN. Despite corn getting survival water from morning dew, you can see the growth slowing. Usually this time it's hitting that 2~3" a day. Not this year. Everything else is drying up as well. Lawns are turning brown, and while I love not having to mow every 5 days, I'd trade some spare time for some good rain and 3 hours on the mower. Haven't used any sprinkler yet, but will probably have to start that in earnest if we don't get any rain soon.

On the bright side, it does keep the skeets down, along with the malathion treatment I gave my perimeter.

It is so dry here (NW Iowa) that we're not having much dew. Its been thundering and lightening since around 9:00 this evening, but no rain. Severe thunderstorm warnings in the area south of us but not here yet.

Its been hitting 92º+ everyday for weeks. No rain in the forecast before the weekend and not much chance here even then.

We're not supposed to be using sprinklers here for the last two years so when I water I fill water cans and carefully water individual plants. Row crops will have to depend on mother nature. I've mulched the individual plants to hopefully retain the moisture in the soil.

We've had two little showers spaced several weeks apart but enough to keep the garden alive if not flourishing. The showers are very spotty and farms a mile south did not get any rain when we got the 1". The situation is dire for farmers. Many smaller communities are very concerned about running out of water and even the Des Moines Metro area is being asked to conserve. Des Moines Waterworks serves around 500,000 residences/businesses.

Its serious, we have had no rain here, dry spring. I ordered my corn products (cornstarch, cornmeal, cornbread mix, tortillas) as I anticipate low yields. Been tracking price of canned corn on Amazon all spring. Even things as subtle as birdfood that has some corn sprinkled in is going up 60 cents etc, anything with corn ingredients needs to make transition to real sugar not HFCS. Pray!

We’ve noticed this with corn, frozen green peas, green beans, and dried beans.

As children of THE MOST HIGH GOD we have already received His graces. All we have to do is claim it. First praise God for the drought (if you don't know what I'm talking about, pick up Merlin Carother's book, The Power of Praise. God's Word tells us to praise Him in EVERYTHING!

Then THANK HIM for bringing the rain which you KNOW He will provide.

Interestingly, my devotional for today says this.....

Thinking most of your spring humidity has shifted the Pecos Texas area….normally we will be having 110 degree heat and 19 percent humidity by now

Yep praying! It was a ridiculous wet spring here in Ne. And now nothing. We are irrigating the pasture just to keep it alive. Pivots started super early this year. They will use all of their water limits before August at this rate

We are still bone dry here in western MN too. No substantial rain since early April, just a tenth here and there. Lawns are brown. Crops are short and showing stress. Humidity has been running in the 20's, no dew in the mornings.

I just finished my first hay cutting and ended up with about a third of normal.

Got about half a crop here, but my fields tend to hold moisture when others don't. I was surprised it went as well as it did. Same deal here. No dew, lawns brown. When you can mow hay at 6:30 in the morning in Minnesota, you know it's dry. I notice that the deer and turkeys have to make the trek morning and evening over to the creek/pond in the back corner of the place because there's nowhere else to water.

Last night again, heat lightening like crazy to the north, but no rain. Unless things change soon, there won't be a second and third cutting. No way will people be able to keep their herds over winter without shipping in expensive hay.

i had to go and get more to replant yesterday. i don't have a huge field, but my back yard.

when i was at the stores, i was asked repeatedly if i was replanting. it is a theme here now. so many people have had to replant. it is extremely worrisome.

Praying for gentle full day and night soaking and the break from the drought for those currently affected by this dry/drought condition.

In my AO in East Central Illinois it has been dryer than normal, but crops still looking good. Have had to water our gardens every morning for last 3 weeks. I've lost a couple of tubs of lettuce that were doing fine, due to their being in the direct sun last week. Burned them up. My fault I was to lazy to move them.

We've had a soaker rain about every other two weeks lately. It was a dry winter, followed by a dryer than normal spring. Forecast calling for chance of Thunderstorms starting tonight through Friday, with heavy rain Friday night.

Just after midnight we had rain. More lightning and thunder than moisture, but at least something. According to the above drought map we're in severe drought and have been for over a year. I think we went into extreme for a time last year. Temps are to hit 96º today so it will likely dry up every bit of what we got early this a.m. Lucky for me I weeded the entire garden yesterday so no weeds sucking up moisture we got.
