HEALTH Poll Results: Are you worried about the Ebola virus spreading to the United States?

As more people vote i want to see the "final" tally. I am concerned that it is probably spreading. No telling how bad this "flu season" is going to be.

Apart from the danger (?) of international air travel, the current risk is primarily in Africa.

Most of Aftica is a pest hole with dreadful standards of living, equally dreadful sanitation, poor nutritional standards among the public and dismal (at best) healthcare. Crippling superstition and general ignorance are complicating issues.

I'm not terribly concerned for the USA today. If several cases of Ebola develop heer in the next 60 days or so, THEN I will step up several levels as to the best prep actions (already have my supplies) at that time and monitor closely.

Good point about the flu. Acute cases with folks headed to the E-R present some similar symptoms iirc.

My thinking is "they" have to bring it to the U.S. and Europe. Right now as long as it's predominately in Africa nobody cares. Frankly I'd be happy to see it wipe out the continent and burn out, but that's "racist". To make the world "care" about the dark continent they have to make sure that a sufficient amount of the world is infected to force us to fund their experiment. Diseases these days are just as much a political tool for multiculturalism as anything else. They could have stopped AIDs but they needed it to push an agenda by making sure it infected those outside of the risk groups. Ebola will be no different.

I am very concerned, it is a deadly virus that has potential to spread and kill. Do not want it in the USA, it could/would be a nightmare.

AS it incubates and mutates in the fertile proving grounds and swamps of Africa, it can become more lethal. Right now it is something to take very seriously. I can see this wiping out millions in Africa.

It will only take a few thousand cases around the world to break the economies.

I wonder why they used the word "worried."

Promoting fear, I believe. If you notice, the media uses fear and pathos to create and/or further their connection with their viewers/readers.

"I am concerned that Ebola will kill some Americans." vs. "I am worried that I will die from Ebola."

For me personally, I'm concerned; but I'm not worried.

Agree about being concerned and not worried--for now. Waiting to see if mutates to be airborne OR is transmitted via fomites--then we could be talking Mad Max.

When the numbers hit around 500,000 I'll get a bit more concerned. Right now it's looking like nothing more than a "spotlight frenzy". Last I looked, it was still in the low thousands, which is certainly bad for those involved, but hardly even hinting at "pandemic"...

_______________
The population of Africa as a whole is about 1.034 Billion as of 2014. The 5 African countries mainly involved in the Ebola outbreaks as of early September 2014 total just under 300 million in population or about 1/4 of the entire population of Africa. Ebola can infect 10's of millions without spreading beyond these 5 main African countries, though the more that get infected there, the greater chance that it will eventually spread to other countries as well.
