My house is on the golf course - back yard is the driving range. Remember the movie "Caddy Shack"? Yea, thats me.
It took me a while to figure out what they were - mole of gopher. Which is important because their behavior and food source is different.
I use "Cinch Traps". Every time one makes a mound, i knock it down and put a trap in the hole. Usually, get one on a fresh mound in about half hour.
I toss the body into the bushes for the varmints to eat so they acquire a taste for gopher.
I don't expect I will ever get rid of them - I live at the golf course, they live at the golf course.
Elimination is probably an unrealistic goal. However, I have been at this for two years - trap a couple in spring and a couple in fall - and this year I have not had a single mound
When I was a kid my Dad used to have a hose that fit on the tail pipe of the truck. We'd stick that down the hole and gas them.
What's a pocket gopher?
We used to drown them out, or wet the hole and then float a little gasoline down, touch it off. Worked.
