Planning under way for Obama holiday

Plans are being made to promote a national holiday for Barack Obama, who will become the nation's 44th president when he takes the oath of office Jan. 20.

"Yes We Can" planning rallies will be at 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. every Tuesday at the downtown McDonald's restaurant, 1100 Kansas Ave., until Jan. 13. The goals are to secure a national holiday in Obama's honor, to organize celebrations around his inauguration and to celebrate the 200th birthday of President Abraham Lincoln, who was born on Feb. 12 1809.

At 7:30 a.m. on Inauguration Day, Obama Cake will be served at the downtown McDonald's, and a celebration is scheduled for 8 p.m. to midnight Jan. 20 at the Ramada Hotel and Convention Center, 420 S.E. 6th.

Well, good. We need more holidays. I think some Jewish holidays should be included. More time off. Just what the doctor ordered.

I have a big wooden spoon for stirring pots but from what I can see here down under you guys don't need one. Yours is bigger than mine. But mine still stirrs food yours hot air.

I cannot believe what I am hearing and seeing and this is a super power God help the world at this rate all I can see is a STUPID power and alot of dimwits
I am in Australia and getting really peeved

But what the heck the US and the Brits rule the world

By the way do you not realise you never left the British Commonwealth.

We really are going off the deep end, aren’t we? I thought we only have holidays mostly for dead people whose lives demonstrated that they did great things for our country.

Other than being recently elected, the man hasn’t accomplished a thing in his life that we know of...

Some people are going off the deep end. This story appears to be about one small group of people meeting in one McDonald's in one city to promote this. It's a far cry from a national movement (right now, anyway).

BTW why did the dems ditch Hillary, because of her race or colour?

If there were a white president of South Africa picked out from the white minority, would you get this hysteria amongst Africans?

Yes, I agree that it is really over the top to be even thinking about having a holiday for Obama, I am peeved also. You are right, it really does show we are on our way down hill as a super power to elect a socialist as our Pres., and does show we have a lot of dimwits.

I am glad to see you all down under are still supporting us, as we have supported you during world wars, keeping Japan off your back in WW 2 etc. We were sure happy to have your help, and the fine fighting men your country provided in that war.

Like you say, it's good that we and the Brits rule the world for now. It would really be bad for you all if China or NK were to to rule.

I hear that hard working people still get ahead in Australia, as they do in the US, but, as you say, a socialist government will try and make slaves of the people.

The bad thing about another holiday is.....you have to be a government employee to get them off. Six pack and plumber Joes has to work those holidays

A nice touch....

would be for everyone to donate their pay (you would get paid for that day wouldn't you??) for redistribution by the new .gov - a good start to a new regime.:p
