Phishing Via Telephone

I received a call this afternoon from someone claiming to be from Microsoft. He had a Indian accent. He said, I'm calling about your home computer. I asked, what about my computer. He says, we have had information that someone is trying to infect your computer with virus's and Trojan horses through the IP address of your computer. After immediately responding with a string of invectives, I hung up.
I hate when that happens. I am 99.9% sure that it was someone phishing for access to my computer but I still had to be sure. I ran Spybot and Malware Bytes which just wasted about 2 hrs. of my time. My system was clean, of course.

A couple of weeks ago my cousin called and she'd had to update the drivers on her laptop.

Said somebody called her and said they'd "checked" her computer and found the drivers needed updating. She gave them control of her computer and they "updated" the drivers. I told her she really needed to let her local computer guy (they're good friends) go over that laptop. She said I was being too careful and just silly.

I don't know, what do y'all think?

Same here a caller from India phishing about DW's computer. DW is as sharp as the sonic crack at the end of a whip and quipped back, "it's dinner time on the West Coast so please 'Curry Up' and let's end this call as I don't like being interrupted while I'm sitting down to my dinner of prime cattle."

It has been a number of phone calls at late hours that prompted her outburst. I'm not gonna tell you what she said to the call from Malaysian Capitol a few days later. Let's just say her spirit is battle hardened.

I would say her computer now has more viruses than a sailor on shore leave in Singapore.
