Perscription Eyeglasses

I found this web site that you can buy perscription glasses and the prices are terrific. If you like the plastic frames, they start at $39 for lens and frames. The fancy ones I got from somewhere else for $200 (and lost) I found there for $89 +about $6 shipping. If you buy one pair they give you $10 off of the exact same for sunglasses.

All i needed to do was to go and get a copy of my perscription and follow the steps on the site.

Ive been needing backup glasses real bad because Im constantly losing them! I plan on ordering some of the plastic frames to just keep on hand and will get the sunglasses too.

Hope this helps somebody. If your like me and needs glasses bad but cant spend the outrageous $200 for extra pairs, try these guys.

I can beat that! Try $19 prescription glasses including UV and scratch protection! Just $19 more for bifocals.

You don't need to send them your prescription, you just enter the info. I ordered and received my glasses promptly. They even include a durable clamshell eyeglass case and polishing cloth!

This could be handy, with 3 of us in glasses. When I get a new exam, all I need to do is have the presciption given to me, and I can order them there? What about the proper "fitting" and lining up they do with the little ruler? is it necessary?

fantastic sites..have to bookmark some..also, don't forget that when you get new glasses, the lions club takes old ones to be able to give to people who can't afford a new pair.

thnks ceebee,

that sounds like a great deal, too!

all i had to do was to measure the pupils, and they tell you exactly how to do it, its very simple with a little metric ruler, i had a friend do it for me.

chickenrancher,
anyone can go to their eye dr and have them write down your perscription---they write in on this little card with numbers in certain boxes. the info page you fill out when ordering online has all the boxes and you just fill in the numbers accordingly.

im very pleased to find something like this as im sick and tired of breaking or losing glasses and having to spend $200 to replace them---and ive been wanting backups real bad.

hope this helps someone.

I'm new here, but I know for a fact when it comes to Eyeglasses you get what you pay for. Remember all your preps are no good if you can't see to find or use them.

I just purchased two pairs of glasses last week. One whole new set and a second set of new lenses for a set of frames that are still good. I also keep all ov my "old glasses" just in case.

GREAT PREP THREAD......thanks!

just an UPDATE on the glasses i ordered form 39dollarglasses.com.

i got my glasses about 1 week from my order. i was very pleased. i picked out a pair that was similar to ones i lost that originally cost me about $200. these were special frames and i spent $89 on this order. i was quite happy with them, so much so, that i went back and made another order.

this time i ordered the $39 ones---figured id get some cheapies cause i lose/break them so often. i got metal frames, plastic lens----and i sprung for the 'get a second pair as sunglasses for $10 off.' same frames, same perscription but sunglasses--grey tint. they are perfect!

that order came today and i tell you, i think they are better than the fancier $89 ones i bought. i am very happy! the sunglasses are as dark as i like them, spring clips on the sides, nice and light, scratch resistent. they all came in a shammy like cloth for cleaning the lenses and a hard shell case. my second order came in 6 days.

now im planning on getting some plastic frames ones so i can have a spare in the car, in the BOB and in my purse.

i am so relieved to be able to have spare glasses, i cant tell you! and so affordable that i can have spares than look good and feel good and spare perscription sunglasses too!

just thought i d pass alone my experience and hope it helps someone.

id just suggest that you read everything and examine the different frame types available. for years i had worn heavy frames til i sprung for my expensive lighter metal frames (the ones i lost). for such a long time i had gone back to wearing my heavier clunky frames so when i got my order, and they were so light i was first taken aback a bit, til i remembered why i liked the ones i lost so much. cant hardly feel them on.

ill report back on the plastic ones when i get them.

Its easier for internet companies to chargecheap prices. They do not have to hire opticians to fit your frames and do your measurements, or have the optical equipment needed in adjusting and repairing glasses.

I think its great that you can get backup glasses that cheap. BUT I would hate to have my everyday pair ordered that way. Nothing bothers me more than poor fitting frames, and unless you know how to do that, you may end up with sore nose or ears. Another thing, I wouldn't recommend measuring your pupilary distance on your own.If you are definitely going to order online, have a friend do do the measurement. It is nearly impossible to get an exact reading on yourself.

One more thing, if you wear bi-focals or trifocals, or have a serious prescription , a millimeter or two mistake in your Pupil distance WILL seriously affect your vision. Don't believe a website that tells you otherwise! ESPECIALLY with progressive bifocals. Those are notoriously difficult to fit.

I dont mean to be a naysayer, but I did work in the optical field manufacturing glasses and was a certified Optician. I know how overpriced some retailers are too. But for the most part,it is like Tonman said, you get what you pay for.
Even in higher priced retail stores I saw some pretty sorry quality glasses go out; I shudder to think what a company that doesnt have to worry about "remakes"
is producing.

I wanted to edit and add, your eyes may not be each the same distance from the center. If your PD is 66, and both are 33 mm to center of your nose, great. But for strong prescriptions, eyes should be measured separately, just in case they are asymetrical.

Pineapple...I was alos in the optical business for about 120 years and agree with what you are saying.

On one hand, Lenscrafters really pisses me off with their outrageous prices...but the "cheapos"...well, you get what you pay for. Not for me.

Now I am going to ammend my comments after going to their website. The 39dollar site does carry Marchon and Starline frames. Marchon frames are the "bendable" titanium frames and the Starline frames are Gucci. Both are high quality lines.
