A day I failed to bring my gun along, something happens......

No big thing, but more of a reminder to pick that gun up every morning and bring it with me.

Today is Saturday and I was feeling a little lazy and did not bring my gun with me......

30 minutes after I get to the office, ( yes working 6 days right now ) a rather large guy walks in and begins to flatter me.... I have gotten used to the patter and it ALWAYS means someone wants something.....

Sure enough he wanted $40 to pay his light bill......

I gave the the standard response, " no thank you".... and I kept that up until he finally got the idea as he continued the patter until he finished...... I probably said it 7-8 times before he got the idea....

Next thing, I am being cursed, called a #$%# cracker and everything under the sun including being rude for not giving him money......he began to puff up, but maybe having my hand in a drawer or my attitude ( no idea what ) he reconsidered and left with the running commentary.

At least I had a knife with me, ( in the drawer and on my belt ) though I am not 100% sure I would be vertical after all is said and done....

Not happy with myself, I need to redo my attitude on security.....

Enough said

I hear ya, I've been remiss lately about taking my gun with me. I need to stop doing that. I'm blessed that I haven't had any issues though. Dh is afraid that someone will take it away from me and use it on me. Although I'm not shy and am not afraid to let loose with my barackes talk as my mother use to call my language. Most women around here would never talk that way, and they don't carry. I don't hesitate to speak up. Poor DH holds his head in shame.

Install a wireless doorbell chime inside your outer door. Install the button in your desk area.

Pushing the button will make a loud noise behind the aggressor. He might look behind him, and that will give you a moment.

Wireless doorbells come with a variety of sounds to choose from, such as sirens. Mine was less than $20.

Don’t let the Piss Ants get you down…
A $40.00 electric bill? And let me guess, this “gentleman” was not a redneck Gawja cracker…

I too periodically neglect/forget to put on my carry gun. I’m somewhat covered by having its twin in the truck console but will think of that while on one store or another… Something to work on. It would really suck to need that piece and not have it or realize in my case it’s sitting in the truck…

Yup! Even tho there is really no reason to carry in my neck o' the woods (it would just be backup to the many others carrying), I do go "over the mountain" into civilization and it has on occasion had that "feel in the air". So I've started carrying again. I'm starting to get used to the extra weight; even the compact FN is pretty heavy!

But usually, people take one look at sweetie and double the covid distancing.

Owner USED to have the "honor system farm cart" out by the road. Never had much problem with pilferage - until the first year of the Pandemic.

Then he moved it back to the turn-around at the house - with a sign out at the street "Honor System Farm Cart" and an arrow pointing up the drive.

Business remained good, for the first year - then dropped off in the second year after that - and more pilferage.

This year Owner has said "I'm done with the Honor System Farm Cart. I will do business only with those I know."

He has threatened a sign out by the road "For business with those I know - arrow."

I hope he doesn't do that.

People that know him know where to go - they don't need a sign.

In either direction...

Be kind and courteous to everyone. Always have a secret plan to kill them if necessary. (Paraphrased slightly)

I probably should carry all the time too. I've had death threats, knives pulled on me, and been followed in my truck. But that's just how my wife is.

Those who carry firearms give off a definite “Don’t mess with me” vibe. That is often enough deterrent to make a perp back off and look for easier prey. My guess is you, as one who usually carries, maintained something of that vibe.

Reminder (for those who may need it):
Never draw your firearm until it’s time to use it. Never draw a firearm to try to scare someone off. It’s got to be draw, aim, fire. At that point it’s Defcon 1, War.

Defcon 2 is when you place your hand on the firearm and you’re ready to draw. Things can go either way at that point.

Guns are to kill, not to scare.

Never seen either of those. Right now, it's the FN9C. The 938 is WAY too small for me.
Oh yeah, the PPS and the Sig 365 with the 12 round grip are about the same size as your FN. The 938 (Kimber Micro 9 for me) are for extra deep concealment for when I absolutely can't be made LOL

Pulling a knife or gun isn't the answer. Start thinking, rather than reacting. Walk in his shoes and you will easily find the answer. On that Saturday morning, you're just as broke as he is, which is the only thing he will understand. He'll just walk away looking for money from someone that has it.

How did you make it this far in life, without thinking?

WTF is your problem then? Condescending AND completely meaningless response? Did an AI write your post?

They’re walking up to your car now in Huntsville Alabama at the drive thru asking you to buy their lunch.
Again? Dang it's not even Christmas. They do that alot at Christmas around the mall in Tupelo.

A couple of years ago I got hit up in Barnes and Noble store in the mall. Asked for some "gas" money to get home on. Nope.

I was in the religious section at the time looking over some books. The guy ended up saying, I hope you go to hell. I just looked at him. I was thinking, "That's not going to happen but you need to be careful of speaking a curse on someone because if it doesn't land, it'll come back on you.

Went to big help desk, and reported it, and they said yeah he's in here a lot. I told them they need to call security, because at some point it could go violent. Haven't seen him since. Don't go in there much either.

Thanks for the heads up, if it's in AL, it's in MS too. going back on defcon 2. Thought we had a few more months.

That's a cop out if you don't live here.

Because if the guy was really that broke, he has a phone to call family members. And never think they don't, given to them by their uncle Obama.

Just curious (and understand if you can't tell me) but wondering what kind of "office" has Saturday hours and the public thinks they can just walk off the street into the "office" to ask the workers there for money.

Thought it might be a gas station or some such but those are not 'offices.'

If I had to go in to my office (insurance) on a Saturday, when we're not normally open, to catch up on work, I lock the door.

So just wondering if you could share in broad terms what kind of business this is that is open on a Saturday and had this bozo just thinking he could walk in and ask for money (so he obviously thought the business took in money) and then get all insulted with you when you refused.

It's everywhere now, friend--take care.

Beggars can be easily thrown off guard.
Lying is a fun sport when it comes to beggars.

Outside of a thrift store (Waterloo), a (GTR) beggar approached my pickup outside
the store as I was loading small purchase. He wanted cash money. I told
him that I stopped carrying cash when I went to my debit card. As he
was standing close, I gave him steading eye contact. He paused and walked away.
Yes, I was lying. This was a big guy, so if he was to attack, he will receive 2-3 rounds
in the balls and more in the face.

Another beggar in Iowa City wanted cash. She was clean, well dressed and didn't stink.
I was out walking to kill some time. I told her that I was out of a job right not
and could only spare one dollar. She must have felt sorry for me, rolled her eyes
and walked away.

Anyway, I look at beggars as being entertainment. In Iowa City they have professional beggars
working the streets.
