House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) will retain the speaker's gavel for another two years after she received a narrow majority of votes during Sunday's election on the House floor. Pelosi secured 216 votes, which turned out to be just two more than she needed, while House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) picked up 209. The victory marks Pelosi's fourth term as speaker.
Five Democrats defected — Rep. Jared Golden (D-Maine) voted for Sen. Tammy Duckworth (D-Ill.), who was not eligible for the role of House speaker, while Rep. Conor Lamb (D-Pa.) voted for Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.). However, the other three lawmakers, Reps. Elissa Slotkin (D-Mich.), Mikie Sherrill (D-N.J.), and Abigail Spanberger (D-Va.), all voted present rather than for another person, which in this case means their votes didn't count against the tally, so they didn't threaten Pelosi's majority.
Several Democrats who opposed Pelosi's last bid in 2019 backed her this time around, which wound up making the difference.

I’ve said it before but bares repeating. During W’s 2007 state of the union speech, W looked over at Pelosi with a big grin and announced her as madam speaker.

I just remember that moment clearly. It was obvious she had “paid her dues” (probably child sacrifice) or whatever the swamp required to get that position and it would be hers for years to come.

She probably has so much dirt on people....probably not so much on the new people. I think it's pure spite that's keeping her going. She wants to 'outlive' Trump politically and finish him off. Nasty woman.

.... we don't count the votes --- they do

.... we are a minority believers of republic, fair tax, equal justice under the law --- the eaters and to many white woman outnumber us

.... we have sat on our butts for 40+ years as they stole the government --- while they were in the streets, the schools and the courtrooms

And the number 1 reason is..... We were fat, dumb and lazy and didn't use what the founders gave us to protect the Republic

Or we were the ones who were busy with jobs, running businesses, raising responsible children, and minding our own business. The communists were carefully plotting and scheming, and cheating their way into position. We were still trusting in the system, while they were worming their way around it.

One thing I DO admire about the Democrat party, they stay together in lockstep regarding everything important to them.
There’s no wavering and no surrendering.
They go for the kill and get it done.

Very true. Republicans don't stick together like that. Pelosi will try to pass some terrible bills and likely get some of them passed. Reelecting her may well cost dems control of the house in 2 years but they don't care. They know their lousing new laws and bills will never get changed because republicans don't have the guts.

I think you are 100% on target Pinecone.

IMO a lot of us are the same. Hard workers just wanting to be left alone to live our lives and spending our time in building up our families and believed that there were many others like us that we would take control back by the ballot box.

Even those like me that bitched for over 20 years about the encroachments by the demon infested core politicians I clearly saw, I never really pushed back except by my vote. Be a prepper since pre Y2K and still fooled myself into believing it was just a matter of time before by God we'd take it back and kick the bad guys to the curb.

I still remember her strutting down a road with her thor hammer when she won the speaker role. It was chilling. I do take joy that somebody splashed paint on her house and a pigs head was left there too.
