Pennsylvania Man Gets 45-Year Sentence for Bank Heist That Killed Pizza Deliveryman With Collarbomb

ERIE, Pa. — A Pennsylvania man has been sentenced to 45 years in federal prison after apologizing for his role in a bizarre plot with a pizza deliveryman turned robber being killed by a bomb locked onto his neck.

Fifty-six-year-old Kenneth Barnes, of Erie, says in a federal courtroom that what happened to the deliveryman, Brian Wells, "wasn't supposed to be."

Barnes had pleaded guilty in September to conspiracy and a charge of aiding and abetting.

Wells died when the bomb exploded shortly after the robbery in August 2003. Wells' sister spoke in court Wednesday, asking Barnes to tell the whole truth about the plot.

The alleged mastermind is 59-year-old Marjorie Diehl-Armstrong. She's awaiting an exam to determine if she's mentally competent to stand trial.

I saw the police standoff and the man pleading for his life on tv, they cut tape just a second before the bomb went off. Marjorie was sane enough to recognize her own greed, use a complicated plan to rob a bank and murder a man with a remote detonator. Fry her.

IIRC, he was not involved. The poor bugger was pleading for someone to get the bomb off of him, the police were shielding themselves behind cars in their protective armor and unable to do anything for him. What a horrid situation.

Darwin Award for having someone blow you to bits? I don't get it.
