It's raining here in Northern MA but supposed to turn to snow with maybe 6 inch accum. Yours sounds more fun.

 I've never seen that much snow Patrick. How in the world do you walk in it to even go outside???

You must have drifts to your roof!

Obo...

.....What? You haven't seen my truck?! hehehe... We're used to it from the old days; haven't had enough like this lately... I know ya'll down south freak out with a dusting and you don't have snowplows or anything, but I didn't buy a hog-leg four-by-four for nothing...

Amazed...

.....I was ready to shut it down and sled today, but my wife wasn't up to it; we always have at least one per year, and we're supposed to get more, so mayhap next weekend... as it was, I was laying more hardwood flooring today; got a bunch done...

It snowed all day here too, but we missed the "butt deep " levels so far! Still there's more on the ground than they were calling for. Of course, I always expect that with Ohio weather. And where I am at, when the Lake effect snow churns out, our area can get one inch or it can get eight, depending on which way the wind blows! (Summit)

Patrick, I hope your wife feels better. You don't rub her face in the snow or put snowballs down her back, do ya?
Good luck on that floor. It sounds really nice.

.....She didn't feel poorly, but yesterday, she turned 41; not always up to sledding at that age... The floor's lookin' pretty good...

Pineapple...

.....Tuscarawas county, here, neighbor... I did some oil patch work up in your direction; you have it made next to Lake county and the Chardon area...

We sure DO have it made here!. I moved here from Pittsburgh (oops, prob'ly a bad word to say today:D ) and the weather here is no worse than it was there. I laugh though, since my husband drives up past Twinsburgh for work, and they always seem to get a few more inches. What a difference a couple miles makes in Ohio , huh ?

Patrick--

Sledding at 41 can be just as fun (even more so) as sledding at 14, especially if the snow is soft, the moon is out, and you're sharing the sled with the right person ;)

And they are calling for lake Effect to kick in over night..and winds changed from west to out of north..that means us!

we ended up with about 8" here in eastern NC
not that much compared to you guys, but we make the most of it
sledding for 3 days straight (and I'm 45)
used the bobcat to push up snow forts on the farm for snowball fighting, as well as our own sledding hills
kids and horse all made snow angels
kids developed snow pepper (snow and Dr. Pepper)
we're in a rain/melt now-bummer-but we sure do need the moisture-don't know if it will be enough to save the winter grain crops or not-they were pretty puny-about an 1" high for a month (what of it that finally germinated) and turning yellow before the snow (that's a hint for those who want it)
you guys have fun

Go ahead and rub it in while you can, Gayla. Before the winter's over you'll get a quarter inch of ice and we'll laugh at you Texans playing bumper cars on national TV.

Meanwhile, I've just about warmed up and rested after spending over an hour digging out Madame Weasel's Explorer so she can go to work. The vehicle left serious underside drag marks in the snow as she left. :shk:

We only got a foot or so and it hasn't stopped yet.

Think I'm gonna dig out my truck and go into town for coffee. Then I'll break out the snow blower and clear the drive. That oughta be good for about a couple of hours of heavy excercise as I wrestle that beast around. :(

Is somebody gonna repost that thread about living in snow country? I think I'm gonna need a reminder about the beauty of the first major snow as I'm making comments about the white sh*t being so heavy and a miserable mess to clear. :p

When the Weather Channel started pumping us up for a “major” winter storm (6-12") I just said, “BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Wishful thinking you weather mongers!”

We got maybe 2" of the stuff.

I’m still predicting a pretty warm, open winter for this neck of the woods (southern NH).

Amazed--Did you get any snow? I had you pegged for all rain.

Heh.

BTDT with big snows, altho it IS great fun to go sledding! I've always had a secret desire to try out the luge or a bobsled.

Gayla, don't listen to 'em! They're just jealous. The 70° forecast for tomorrow sounds pretty good to me, how 'bout you? :p

Go ahead, rub it in!

Just 'cause some of us are reaching for the Motrin as we curse the white stuff don't mean you aren't gonna get yours. And while you're in warm places where wintry weather is rare, unless you're in the tropics you aren't safe. There *will* be payback for your gloating.

Next summer when you're baking in 100+ temps, enduring hurricanes and tornados and fighting off hoards of skeeters, killer bees and fire ants, we'll remember your gloating and drink a lemonade toast as we sit in the shade out on the deck in a "raging hot snowbelt" 80 degree day. And I'll be sure to remind you if you post here about the miserable weather you're having.

Meanwhile... Where's the Motrin? Where's the heating pad? Where's my back brace? I'm only halfway done with the drive and the snow blower has my lower back whipped! :shk:

I'm really startin' to wonder why we didn't have kids so I could make them shovel the snow away.

Columbus got off Easy

Patrick & SAR (sorry if I missed any other Ohioans!)

We got off easy in Columbus. I have about 3 1/4 inches on my street. The freeways are dry.

I hope it keeps up, but I notice there's snow in the forecast everyday for the next five days.

Gee it's only supposed to get up to 60 in Denver today. I tell ya this nice weather is starting to get to me. A few feet of snow would bring it all back in prospective.:D

Weelll, we finally started gettin mega snow a couple of days before Christmas, about 5 feet since then. It helps out the pocketbook though as my hubby helps a friend plow and shovels roofs on the side. Lots of ski resorts, cross country trails and snowmobile trails in the area so it definately helps out the local economy. Pray for snow is a common sign posted in these parts. :)

Stu,

It's about 50 here...that's both temp and windspeed

We've had snow several times but only an inch or two at a time, then it's gone the next day. Pretty mild winter so far.

I'm happy to report that the snow we got on Friday didn't screw up Saturday's trip to the People's Republic of Denver to watch Aerosmith rock the house (actually, the Pepsi Center)...way better than watching the Nuggets!!!

Walk this waaaaaay

Patrick,
In Butler Co, we got around 3", which is more than we were supposed to get. It snowed all day Sunday.

Similar to meemur, the roads are all clear and dry! :D

:)

Wildweasel, it definitely looks like "bumper cars" when we get ice down here. :D

You're right, we WILL pay for it when summer rolls around. By your description, I'd say you've been here before? (Anyone who visits in the summer never forgets.)

Wildweasel…here u go…LOL

Diary of a snow shoveler (Rated PG)
December 9: We woke to a beautiful blanket of crystal white snow covering every inch of the landscape. What a fantastic sight! Can there be a more lovely place in the Whole World? Moving here was the best idea I've ever had. Shoveled for the first time in years and felt like a boy again. I did both our driveway and the sidewalks. This afternoon the snow plow came along and covered up the sidewalks and closed in the
driveway, so I got to shovel again. What a perfect life.

December 12: The sun has melted all our lovely snow. Such a disappointment. My neighbor tells me not to worry, we'll definitely have a white Christmas. No snow on Christmas would be awful! Bob says we'll have so much snow by the end of winter, that I'll never want to see snow again. I don't think that's possible. Bob is such a nice man. I'm glad he's our neighbor.

December 14: Snow, lovely snow! 8" last night. The temperature dropped to -20. The cold makes everything sparkle so. The wind took my breath away, but I warmed up by shoveling the driveway and sidewalks. This is the life! The snowplow came back this afternoon and buried everything again. I didn't realize I would have to do quite this much shoveling, but I'll certainly get back in shape this way. I wish I wouldn't huff and puff so.

December 15: 20 inches forecast. Sold my van and bought a 4x4 Blazer. Bought snow tires for the wife's car and 2 extra shovels. Stocked the freezer. The wife wants a wood stove in case the electricity goes out.
I think that's silly. We aren't in Alaska, after all.

December 16: Ice storm this morning. Fell on my ass on the ice in the driveway putting down salt. Hurt like hell. The wife laughed for an hour, which I think was very cruel.

December 17: Still way below freezing. Roads are too icy to go anywhere. Electricity was off for 5 hours. I had to pile the blankets on to stay warm. Nothing to do but stare at the wife and try not to irritate her. Guess I should've bought a wood stove, but won't admit it to her. God I hate it when she's right. I can't believe I'm freezing to death in my own living room.

December 20: Electricity's back on, but had another 14" of the damn stuff last night. More shoveling. Took all day. Goddamn snowplow came by twice. Tried to find a neighbor kid to shovel, but they said they're too busy playing hockey. I think they're lying. Called the only hardware store around to see about buying a snow blower and they're out. Might have another shipment in March. I think they're lying. Bob says I have to shovel or the city will have it done and bill me. I think he's lying.

December 22: Bob was right about a white Christmas because 13 more inches of the white shit fell today, and it's so cold it probably won't melt till August. Took me 45 minutes to get all dressed up to go out to shovel
and then I had to piss. By the time I got undressed, pissed and dressed again. I was too tired to shovel. Tried to hire Bob who has a plow on his truck for the rest of the winter; but he says he's too busy. I think the asshole is lying.

December 23: Only 2" of snow today. And it warmed up to 0. The wife wanted me to decorate the front of the house this morning. What is she...nuts??? Why didn't she tell me to do that a month ago? She says she did but I think she's damn well lying.

December 24: 6". Snow packed so hard by snowplow, l broke the shovel. Thought I was having a heart attack. If I ever catch the son of a bitch who drives that snowplow, I'll drag him through the snow by his balls. I know he hides around the corner and waits for me to finish shoveling and then he comes down the street at a 100 miles an hour and throws snow all over where I've just been! Tonight the wife wanted me to sing Christmas carols with her and open our presents, but I was busy watching for the goddamn snowplow.

December 25: Merry Christmas. 20 more inches of the !=3D@x@!x!x1 slop tonight. Snowed in. The idea of shoveling makes my blood boil. God I hate the snow! Then the snowplow driver came by asking for a donation and I hit him over the head with my shovel.

December 26: Still snowed in. Why the hell did I ever move here? It was all HER idea. She's really getting on my nerves.

December 28: Warmed up to above -50. Still snowed in. THE BITCH is driving me crazy!!!

December 29: 10 more inches. Bob says I have to shovel the roof or it could cave in. That's the silliest thing I ever heard. How dumb does he think I am?

December 30: Roof caved in. The snow plow driver is suing me for a million dollars for the bump on his head. The wife went home to her mother. 9" predicted.

December 31: Set fire to what's left of the house. No more shoveling.

January 8: I feel so good. I just love those little white pills they keep giving me. Why am I tied to the bed?
