Oil Oh, I wouldn’t forget that …

Rotating machine maintenance is an absolute necessity on any device or tool you depend on.

Whether this is on light yard equipment with 2 & 4 cycle engines or generators or machine tool/wood working tools or medium duty diesel powered tractors; preventative maintenance is the key to keeping those machines working.

A. Keep equipment clean. Especially for end-of-seasonal use type tools.
B. Sharpen blades, check belts and hoses.
C. Charge batteries, connect them to a battery maintainer or bring the battery indoors for the winter.
D. Change spark plugs in engines when equipment performance degrades or starting becomes harder.
E. Change crankcase oil regularly, especially on engines without an oil filter.
Do not forget to replace and tighten the oil drain plug afterwards.

I probably cleaned up an oil mess under the generator for more than 2 months while worrying some gasket or
seal had failed somewhere that I couldn’t see before I thought to check the drain plug and found it less than
hand tight. Wrenched it tight (another full turn), added another quart of oil and we are back to normal.
