ALERT Occupy Portland getting shut down

Occupy Portland has until midnight tonight (Saturday) to disband and vacate the parks they are in...Tensions have been on the rise since this deadline was announced about three days ago. I expect violence if/when the police go in to clear them out...should show up on the national news.

They are clearing the out because of a marked increase in crime, violence, drug use, etc...

Thanks big_sarge. This will probably be used as a model of closing down other OWSer groups ... but whether how to or how not to remains to be seen at this point.

Heard from a friend who lives nearby that it had gotten pretty large and rowdy to the point that it was keeping the locals away--probably having a negative impact on business.

Occupy SLC is closing down too after someone died at that location.

So how or when does our 1st amendment gets stomped on? As much as I dislike these "occupys" I have to remember what our United States Constition says!

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

If they are on public property and if they are peaceful they have their rights. However they have no intention of LEAVING. They see themselves as OCCUPIERS. As when a conquering power occupys another.

don't worry OWS this that and the other will fade out because they have no agenda or alternative policies that will work

will anyone challenge this

if Pete Seeger and Crosby Nash sing songs what the **** difference will this make unless they have a positive alternative political/financial strategy

I have YET to see/hear of a petition from any Occupy group to the government. A bunch of sound bytes on the 6 o'clock news does not a petition equal.

Salt Lake City is getting busted tonight too. Also the Denver police are staging right now, according to a tweet I just put on the long thread.

Good. Since they refused to be accountable for themselves, their guests, and their movements it is time passed time for them to be evicted.

And I hope they get busted for all of the "tax deductible" donations as well since obviously they've got all of the financial sense of a grasshopper. Of course they are not the ones that have to pay the bills of damage, etc. they create ... it is the 53% who are the taxpayers once again getting shafted by the irresponsible.

I agree 100%... except that they are petitioning to end our way of life and not doing it peacably, in many cases. With rights, come responsibilities, and from what I've seen, most of these people don't think that they are responsible for anything. JMHO. YMMV

This is not a First Amendment issue. The Occupukes are free to talk, write letters to the editor, write books, pring up flyers, write blogs, make websites, stand and babble at street corners, etc. Camping out in filth has nothing whatsoever to do with free speech.

And they are not peaceably assembling, that's obvious.

NY is a PRIVATE park!

1. THey are not staying on the private park, they are creating serious nuisances and commiting crimes all over the neighborhood.

2. The city of NY is responsible for the nuisances, filth and health hazards, increase in crime and damage to the businesses in the area.

3. The company that owns Zucotti Park got a bunch of money from the 0bama adminstration shortly before the whole shindig. I wonder why.....

Bike Swarm Article

'Bicycle swarm' planned to protect Occupy encampment from police
Posted by Jonathan Maus (Publisher/Editor) on November 11th, 2011 at 11:56 am

With yesterday's announcement by Mayor Sam Adams and Police Chief Mike Reese that they will enforce park camping laws beginning 12:01 this Sunday, a showdown between the police and Occupy Portland might be inevitable.

To help create a buffer zone between the encampment and any police action, a decision was made at the General Assembly last night to create a "swarm" of people on bikes and foot around Chapman and Lownsdale Squares. Here's more from activist and videographer Dan Kaufman:

"The general consensus is that there needs to be a party and potluck Saturday night and camp needs to be cleaned and cleared of much of the stuff (tents and other belongings) in advance. Occupiers want as many supporters as possible to protect and hold the camp in a non-violent fashion."

The idea of the bicycle swarm, says Kaufman, is akin to creating a critical mass of riders around the parks. "You're not doing anything illegal, you're just riding your bike." Kaufman says people on bikes and foot will circle around the parks to "disrupt the flow of what's going on."

The atmosphere of the bicycle swarm and inside the camps is intended to be festive and non-threatening. Kaufman encourages folks to wear costumes, decorate their bikes and bring bike sound systems.

The swarm meets at 11:00 pm at Salmon Street Fountain on Saturday night and will then roll to the encampments. Organizers say they hope new groups continue to arrive on the streets surrounding Chapman and Lownsdale Squares each hour on the hour beginning at 11:00 pm because it's unknown exactly what time the police might begin a raid or whether or not they'll do it at all.

"Be prepared to stay up late or be called back later since we won't know when the Swarm will be needed most. Text PDXOccupy to 23559 to receive critical updates," reads the event listing.

Learn more about the event on Kaufman's blog.

It's time for these jokers to head to the house. They've assembled and said their piece, quite a while ago. Frankly, they have little, if anything, of any real value left to say. Except, perhaps, to explain why they, a bunch of people who are complaining primarily about not having sufficient health insurance (among a whole litany of other complaints), are hanging around in public parks spreading tuberculosis, dysentery and venereal diseases among themselves.

Seems like they would be more careful about congregating in public and providing multiple vectors for contagion, what with many of them lacking health insurance and all that.

Bail Set at $1 Million for Occupy Portland World Trade Center Firebomber

Updated yesterday at 6:21 AM

PORTLAND -- Bail for a man inside the Occupy Portland camp Wednesday on accusations related to a Tuesday Molotov cocktail fire was raised to $1 million by a judge Thursday.

David Hodson, 29, was arraigned on first-degree arson, manufacturing a destructive device, possession of an explosive device and second-degree criminal mischief charges.

The accusations also include vandalism to the Smart Park garage at 123 SW Jefferson, according to Portland Fire Bureau spokesman Paul Corah.

Hodson was also arrested Sunday on a reckless burning charge for trash fires that were started near the Occupy Portland encampments at Lownsdale and Chapman Square parks, according to Fire Bureau, Corah said.

Lt. Robert King said a Molotov cocktail caused minor damage Tuesday night on an external stairwell at the building at 121 SW Salmon. The building that was targeted is located one block east of the two parks where Occupy Portland demonstrators have been camped since Oct. 6.

Police received unconfirmed reports on Oct. 31 that gasoline-filled bottles with a cloth wick were being made within the Occupy Portland encampments at Lownsdale and Chapman Square parks, King said.

The Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms assisted in the investigation.

”(Witnesses) saw them go into the camp. That does not necessarily mean that they are part of the camp," protester Gavin Carrots said. "Furthermore, if this is the kind of action that they’re carrying out then they are not part of this protest.”

But there are no spokesholes, so anyone can say anything they want. Heck, the Oakland Occupukes said a dog was the spokesperson/representative. They want to have "no leaders" and then when one of the Pukes commits felonies all of a sudden there are "spokespeople" claiming that the wrongdoers aren't "real" Occupukes.

In an interview Wednesday morning on OPB, Mayor Sam Adams said that a suspect in the World Trade Center bombing was seen returning to the camp.

Portland's World Trade Center houses the headquarters for Oregon's largest electric utility, state offices, a number of law firms and the office of U.S. Sen. Jeff Merkley.

Also on Wednesday, a source told The Oregonian that police were drawing up plans to remove the Occupy Portland campers from the downtown parks. The report said that police were ready to make the move as soon as the mayor gives the go-ahead.

Anyone with information that may help investigators was asked to call detective Joe Luiz at (503) 823-3408.

Crime Stoppers offers a cash reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to arrests. Tips can be anonymous. Call (503) 823-HELP (4357), leave a tip online at www.crimestoppersoforegon.com, or text CRIMES (274637) and in the subject line put 823HELP, followed by your tip.

[Comment: don't forget the Occupuke protester who made impassioned pleas to the City Council to allow the Pukes to continue their camout, and a few days later set fire to a building, causing millions of dollars in damage.]

Personally, I think it's stupid to give these groups till midnight to get outta town. Why not BEFORE dark? If I were the mayor/city manager/whatever, that place would be cleaned out before the sun went down.

I wonder what outside pressures made Sam Adams (the child molesting mayor of Portland) decide that it was time to clean up the OW'rs? This guy is about as far left wing as they come and supported them when they first drove up in their magic bus.

Back when I was a kid, my parents used to tell me that I would be known, not for who I am, but for the company that I keep. That lesson must have died out sometime in the intervening years. Perhaps the parents of today would be well-advised to begin teaching it, again. In a perfect world, maybe you can hang out with an arsonist, and not be called an accessory. But, in a perfect world, there wouldn't be an arsonist, either.

The funny thing about civil disobedience, is that you better be on the winning side of the argument, and for that, you have to have the support of the masses, whether they protest with you or not. When this is over, I think a lot of people are going to find that their collective futures have been pretty much destroyed by being a part of this "movement".
