Add #5:

Never open an email attachment you weren't expecting, even if it supposedly comes from someone you know. Email is a trusting protocol - anyone can spoof the "from" address.

How do you protect your wi fi other than password protection

You need to ensure you have WPA and with AES encryption on your wifi. This comes up when you setup your wifi. Normally security is disabled to make setup easy but you should take the pain and have peace of mind.
