my 6th Hard Drive Reformat

passing this along to any who want to be first day users of the NEW Mozilla version 4.0

I have not had a good day with it.

I went to IE and downloaded the new Mozilla Firefox version 4.0 off a mirror site, instead of www.Mozzilla.org
had a few pop-ups on IE, but didnt think anything of it.

within 20 minutes of the NEW installed Firefox,
i got some screen freezes, went to facebook and had zero images, then i went back to Explorer to check on facebook (found IE fb with images so it was a Mozilla software block problem not a fb problem) and while there on IE/fb I caught another trojan that immediately began opening IE pages like 42 pages cascading in the 8 seconds it took me to yank the electrical cut off switch.

hard drive reformat and reload the Firefox via IE BUT when went to USE the Mozilla firefox after only a few screen changes a new page opened that 'looked like' a legitimate Microsoft page called Windows Recovery but it also is another WORM.
there is No escaping that page!!

BAD Trojan Virus masquerading as Windows Recovery! the only way to disable is to f8 to start in safemode and then backdate your PC
Instructions here

How to Remove Windows Recovery Virus? | RemoveOnline.com
www.removeonline.comWindows Recovery is a malicious application that can infect your computer and make it almost unusable. It is important to get rid of this virus as soon as

so had to f8 Safestart....
and have been fighting uploads, hacks and out of control mouse reformats and reloads for the rest of all day... (not good to be naked on the net)

i believe some of my problem was using google. Google also redirected me to additional problem popups instead of directing me to exactly where I wanted to go. Changed search engine to Bing and was again able to connect direct with links

am reformating that desktop again since now i cant connect it to the internet.
and tomorrow, i will download what i HAD before all these problems started which is the older version Mozilla 3.6

gag, i will have to again use via IE :sht: (Its an OLD desktop 4 yrs old and came installed only with Netscape and IE) so I dont know, or does ANYONE know if Netscape is still useable?? and hefty enough to download./ I realize nobody has supported Netscape in years, which may make it the ideal 'bug-free" server ?!??

In a few weeks, i will again re-try the new Mozilla Firefox 4.0
It is awesome FAST and clean and it WILL BE secure once i figure out which/how/what virus protections i need to load to work with 'it' .

Meanwhile, thank goodness for laptops (My absolute least favorite kind of hardware) and that that desktop is used only for surf, but not file storage for just these reasons!!

Like that old Sarge used to say on Hill Street Blues: "be careful out there"....

Saved, to glorify God.
I think my friend did the same thing, She has been going nuts with her computer all day today same problems you were having, after uploading Firefox 4.0.

got it today, all perfect Hope you friend retries today with success!

I COULD NOT find a downloadable 3.6 version, so reloaded 4.0 FROM www.MOZILLA.org and had zero problems.
Netscape 8.0 STILL works which i will use before i try IE again as i was only on IE long enough to download the damaged Firefox and viruses - hackers - and trojans.

soon as this Firefox was downloaded, i also switched it TO BING FROM google........so i should be good for a long while.
again.......
Firefox, and Netscape are working and IE still is as usual more trouble than it is worth!!

Honestly, your first mistake was to use IE. NEVER use IE. It's a malware-writer's dream. And you should have just gone to the mozilla website. WHY did you not do that to begin with?

and no I am NOT in England, have not been robbed and do not need any money and even if i did, twenty300$ would NOT be enough to cover the stated bills, motels, and airfare!!

Someone stole your email addie. The best thing to do is change it immediately and resend the new one to your email list.
It happened to us when we were using our email addresses for our website. We got TON of returned mail from people we never sent emails to. Return to sender stuff.
When we closed down the website that stopped. It may also be that worm still in your system sending emails.
I would download Malwarebytes and run in safe mode and get rid of it.

Also, did you know you can do updates on Firefox WITH Firefox? It will update directly from the Mozilla website. I just did it a day or so ago with zero problems. Works great so far.

Good luck with your worm......

Sounds like a nightmare. Why so many hard drive reformats? Do you get that many worms/viruses? You need to rethink some of the sites you visit or change your anti-virus software. I downloaded 4.0 a few days ago and no problems. Although I very rarely use IE I also download 9.0 a couple of days ago. I haven't played with it for very long but it seem like they are mimicking Firefox rather than Firefox mimicking them. I also never use Google. I have tried Bing but I would rather use IXquick. Knock on wood that now I don't get the virus.

I wouldn't use Netscape 8 or any other browser which isn't currently being supported with regular patches, etc. That is just asking for trouble.

i believe the worm came in when i upgraded to the new firefox 4.0
i downloaded from a site, ??, which i realized after, was NOT MOZILLA, but a clone from cyberhell.
----------
i had no known computer problems prior, but once this worm hit, it wrote itself into Internet Explorer and continued to write itself into the registry.
Being unable to do ANYTHING with the pc, because of keylogger, inappropriate web pages, i ended up reformatting.
--------------------------
because HP installed Netscape and Internet Explorer on the original hard drive. those were my selections.
Every time i used IE to download Firefox, i ended up with the exact same trojan re-writing itself into the registry.
Only by choosing to use Netscape (Surprise!! It still works!) was i able to access and download the Firefox. and no, Netscape is no longer supported. It morphed into what we now call the Firefox.
----------

i bought PC Tools Spyware Dr for $45.00 So far no problems and no complaints.
HOWEVER
I just read about this Cloud technology protection from Trend Micro and wish i had know an would have bought it Titanium

.

Two things I can suggest.

Copy the program set-up that your computer downloads, onto a flash drive. This way, you can just re-install the program from your flash drive and NEVER have to use IE to download your favorite browser (whatever that is) again.

I stopped using Firefox a couple of years ago. It has become bloatware, as far as I am concerned. I use an obscure, little known browser that seems to be trouble free and fast, though it has few bells and whistles. That's fine with me.

Another very nice browser worth trying is the new Opera version 11.

I mainly use IE (presently using version 9), then Opera, then Firefox (I also have chrome installed, but frankly don't like it at all).

The phone version of Opera works very nicely on an Android phone too (and it's partnered with IE on my Netbook as well).

It's worth trying the different ones, as some will suit some people much better than others.
