My copy of this book just came today. It was originally published around 1850. The content is amazing in that it's so comprehensive and detailed. There is a lot of meat used in recipes. Might be hard to come by if the current trends continue.

I was looking at the recipe for cabbage soup and after the recipe she details all about cabbage.

The only down side it the print is small. I usually wear bifocal readers, but switched to just readers and that helped.

I also got Mrs Beeton's Garden Management today, I have had her cookbook for several years.

This too shall pass.
Would be a good idea to have hard copies of material like this. For instance, I have almost 2,000 books downloaded onto my Fire tablet; as long as they aren't revoked by Amazon, they'll stay there. But, I have to keep the tablet charged up; I have the means to do that, for as long as they work, but they won't last forever. I figure 5-10 years max, for all my solar equipment except possibly the big 100 watt panel.

And, of course, Amazon can pull material at any time. At present, it's rare, but it does happen.

Another consideration... I discovered you *can't* read Kindle books using the App on a non-Fire device unless the internet is working! I recently bought a new Fire solely to use as my "library" if things get hinky, although I hate Kindle's as a device with a passion! But the Kindle App on my Samsung tablet is worthless when the net is down.

I'll have to check and see if I can read the books I've downloaded to my desktop, then, too. I have only saved a few that way, because it's a headache.

I prefer having a hard copy because of issues with the books are not available unless you have internet. And amazon can pull books that you have already paid for. I did have to download Alas, Babylon to my kindle app because I could not get my reading lamp adjusted right.
My very first kindle was not internet necessary. I need to see if it still works.

Have you looked at calibre-ebook.com website? You can change the format of ebooks and not need an internet connection.

Did you find an unabridged version. The Amazon one is abridged and from reviews, missing a lot of stuff. Thanks

The Kindle book is condensed, missing. The hard copy is 1100 pages. The kindle book even less than half that many, but it will give an over view of the actual book.

The Amazon one says it's 320 pages. That's for the printed option. Maybe they're just lumping them all in with the Kindle version though.

This one seems to be complete and huge according to reviews. The reviews for the kindle version weren't good. There are several versions of the book on Amazon but this one says:

Mrs. Beeton's Book of Household Management: A Specially Enlarged First Edition Facsimile/07542 Hardcover – January 1, 1983
It has 1152 pages

I'd love to get it but I don't have room for one more thing and I already have a couple that may be similar that are based on 1800's southern country home keeping. Still gonna put it on my wish list.

My Kindle app works fine on my Android tablet with no internet, as long as the books are downloaded to the device. :shr:
