I'd like to re-season some cast iron cookware I have. It's seems I've seen different ways on how-to on the board. I do know how, however, I'd like to hear of variations others may use.

I just coat it with veg. oil or crisco and stick it in the oven on low ( 200-250 ) heat 'til ya see the oil "soak" up.
If yours has a bad build up on it,ya might have to sand blast it or burn it off and start over.

I would use lard or Crisco. If you use oil it will burn and cause a sticky goo film on the cookware. When I buy new cast iron, I coat it with Crisco and heat it for 20 min. at 350', let it air cool, wipe out the excess grease and place back in my oven and just leave it there to be heated and cooled everytime I use the oven. After a while the cast iron is black and seasoned perfectly. Perfect castiron is black and very smooth and shinny. You might have to scape the carbon build up after repeated heatings to get to the shinny layer.

This may sound crazy but my husband had bought me some new iron skillets before the rollover. They were those huge skillets for a big meal. They are everything I can do to lift them. LOL! I decided to make homemade french fries in them. It worked great, and worked fast.
