Don't answer the door when they deliver. Have them set it down and go, if possible. I have a friend who got sick from a delivery person.
I'm setting here waiting on a large order of PM's to arrive, I have to sign for it ,thinking of wearing a mask and gloves. These actions will be the first time in my life I've had to seriously think about doing something like that.. Bummer

#Coronavirus global infection chart looks more and more „pandemic“ as number of infections & deaths in #Italy soared by 25%. Cases in #Spain almost doubled. #Germany reported its first two deaths. WHO said the threat of a pandemic is “very real.”

Are you sure about that?
I really like Matt Gaetz but did not appreciate the stunt with the gas mask the other day basically making fun of people who were concerned with the coronavirus. Now this Matt Gaetz quarantined

Yeah, it reminded of me of when Gov. Symington had the "alien" at the press conference regarding the 1997 Phoenix mass UFO sighting. Whether one thinks that aliens are behind UFO's or not, the Phoenix event was seen and filmed by thousands of people. It was a real event that should have been seriously addressed, instead his constituents were insulted.

Same here. Gaetz didn't have to do this, and it certainly didn't help. CoronaChan is real, making fun of people for their fears is wrong.

He's the one who trotted out the fake alien, IIRC.

OK what are member's plans for avoiding contact with this virus, I don't think Governments can do much in the face of this epidemic except provide tests if this can be done without the possibility of transmission.

Off the top of my head:

Avoid all sports games, shopping malls, concerts or mass gatherings of any type with anyone
Work from home if possible
Avoid all public transport
Self isolate if possible, e.g.have provisions delivered etc, do not visit family
Stock up with canned foods etc
Visit supermarkets and all shops in quiet periods if at all
Avoid people who are complacent that may infect you but who feel smug because they are young
Avoid contact with Drs or any healthcare persons unless you are admitted to hospital

Anything else?

Try your best to stock up on any prescription meds that you take.
Don't let the world know you have preps-they will camp out on your doorstep (or blast their way in if situation gets desperate) because they didn't prep.

Does a double black swan equate to an ELE ?
It could happen but it probably won't end up being quite that extreme.

In the 14th century, there were actually two Black Swan events (or at least one Grey Swan and one Black Swan).

Most people don't know this but the first part of that Century says a famine in Europe that was so horrific that people already thought that God had left the world and given it over to the devil.

That might be thought of more as a Grey Swan, I mean famines did happen but this one was the most severe in centuries and really was the first "marker" that the world was cooling down from the Medieval Warming Period and marching towards the Little Ice Age.

A lot of historians have speculated that one reason the Black Death was a near slate-wiper in some areas (like parts of Scandinavia) was that 20 years before the people who had survived The Great Famine probably had their health greatly compromised.

But while both events together eventually changed the entire Western World in very dramatic ways they were not ELE's except for the folks who actually died.

I can’t figure out how to post the link of the guy that got the virus on one of the cruises and he described what it was like.
He said he went from normal temp to 103 very quickly. No stuffy nose, no nose drip, no sneezing, no body aches, no chills. Worst symptom was high fever. He was dehydrated and drank ALOT of Gatorade. Still getting over a dry cough.

I’m bad at guessing age but he looked to be 65-70 and was Jewish.

Italy now on full lockdown. Entire country.

So tell us again, how entire countries shutting down is a normal reaction to “just a new virus” and “ just wash your hands”..... and the mantra “Yearly flu strains kills more people” ???

I’m not buying a single word from the sunshine and lollipops crowd.

MIT says all large classes will be taught online amid coronavirus fears
(fyi, expect many large universities on both the east and west coasts to implement something like this soon)

MIT has announced that all large classes with more than 150 students will go online starting on Tuesday, to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus.

The university expects the change to impact about 20 classes. Midterm exams for these large classes will occur on schedule for now, but the university is spreading students across several classrooms so that smaller numbers of students are in each room and have limited contact with each other, the university said.

MIT said that there are no known cases of coronavirus on campus, and that the risk remains low. But the university needs to move quickly to prevent the potential transmission of the disease, Ian Waitz, vice chancellor for undergraduate and graduate education, wrote today in a letter to deans and department heads, according to the university’s internal news publication.

“Our approach is to be aggressive, but to move forward in stages,” Waitz said. “While keeping in mind that some individual faculty and departments may be moving faster than others, that the level of comfort with remote teaching varies, and that some classes may translate better than others to alternative formats.”

MIT is the first university in Massachusetts to announce that it has moved several of its classes online over concerns about the virus. Several universities elsewhere in the country, including Stanford, Princeton, and Columbia, have announced in recent days that they are moving their classes to a virtual format.

Leaders at other Massachusetts universities have also been in meetings today to determine whether to follow suit.

I think that on-line classes will become the norm except where students need the hands-on experience.
