Haven't heard anything about him in years. But then, they needed him to disappear from the public eye in order to prevent a split in the church.
Split has already occurred. It is a defacto split, just like in this country.

Ironically, Benedict, the REAL current Pope, might outlive him.
And anyone they elect after Frank, while Benedict still lives, will also be an antipope.

Hmmm is this were we now get the black pope, that Sarah guy from north Africa?

Interesting possibility.

Cardinal Sarah’s books have already had a global reach. He certainly has a brilliant mind. I’ve read the English version of “The Day is Far Spent.” Sarah has some anti-capitalism in him, that’s for sure, but he is more articulate and deep-thinking than most in the Roman Catholic hierarchy.

The adjective that comes to mind is visionary. That, of course, could be very good or very bad. I still like Rod Dreher’s plan in “The Benedict Option” more than Sarah’s, but at least we are getting some sharp minds looking at the current issues.

Pope? Isn’t that more for politicians than visionaries? Well, Cardinal Sarah may be just what the Catholic church needs for this troublesome time. Of course, a lot would still have to happen, wouldn’t it?

Does anyone know the age of Benedict? 80's, 90's? Older?

He was born in April, 1927. Let’s see, that makes him currently 94. Way too old.

Aside: my previous mention of “The Benedict Option” is a thesis involving Saint Benedict, the visionary who found a way to preserve Christianity through the Dark Ages, not the current retired former Pope Benedict. Just want to make that clear since I didn’t in the previous post.

Thanks. I was wondering how old he was. Thinking he was too old to still be pope, even if he is still alive.
By church doctrine, they are Pope until they pass. Age has nothing to do with it. He is the first Pope to ever step down and it created a schism. My personal belief is that he realized that he would be used as a figurehead when he could no longer keep up. And he didn't want that. But for his retirement to succeed, he had to disappear from the public eye.

The Mater Ecclesiae Monastery Vatican City is one of the Vatican’s lesser-known attractions. Established in the early nineties as a residence for the Vatican nuns, it is currently home to former pope Benedict XVI.

While I agree somewhat with you, I think he retired because it became obvious that the Catholic Church had been sheltering MANY pedophiles for YEARS! He was aware of this and did not want to have to deal with it, because he knew he would be out voted and over thrown>>>>and he KNEW what was right and what was WRONG and the Church as a whole, was going in the WRONG direction.>>>>all that and I am NOT a Catholic!!

satan better HURRY his fiery butt up if he plans to come to victory before this pope leaves the chair!!

Benedict has also had fairly serious physical and neurological issues, which make/(made) his reign as Pope VERY difficult to handle.

All complicated by the (rumored) fact that he was "encouraged" to step down, or end up like JP1.

Makes sense now why Francis is in a push to meet with the Russian head Krill. Remember the Cuban meeting and then Krill went to Antartica. They just found dust similar to that on Mars in an ice core sample. Hmmm
